months ago i started a smiliar thread that had a long debate so im just curious what if this situation happned.
faw gives 5 million too 8 different men/woman/groups as funding towards creating an initial 8 "regional" football league. or 8 millionaires just decide to do it. played from may till september no cup competition just the league so 28 games in 5 months. starting when the english league ends.even if the aim is to start with non proffesional footballers first and have them on s4c.
so brand new teams in cardiff, swansea, rhondda, newport, carmarthenshire, mid wales and one north east one north west. this of course not effecting any other club as their off season or hurting their heritage. all our best footballers still play in england but we have a new development ground for other players which surely only betters welsh football in years to come.
ok funding is a problem maybe thats why this hasnt happned, but shouldnt some steps ne made towards something like this? wpl doesnt work we need our own decent league like every other small nation. -- scotland, slovenia, switzerland, sweden etc etc
why cant it be done?

Moving the WPL to summer would be a good start... Indeed, it is rightfully argued that the quality of the LOI is on the rise while the SPL is rapidly declining. A move to a summer season (with matches beginning in March and running until late October) has proved to be an inspired decision, with Irish teams gaining significantly improved results in Europe, and domestic football benefiting from blooming grass pitches (as opposed to the regular winter disruption in Scotland). As a result of such progress, Aston Villa's acquisition of Shamrock Rovers defender Enda Stevens compliments their squad with a player who now has significant European experience. www.football365.com/f365-says/7424487/Go-To-Ireland-For-Value-Not-Scotland

The problem with ljd90s idea is that it would be another new league that has to compete with the WPL as well as every league the WPL has to compete with. Even in summer it still has to have players, fans, media interest. And there's no promotion/relegation.
So I think the WPL has to improve. The March - October move would be sensible for all the reasons listed in the link, so why do they resist such an obvious move? The only downside I can see to it is that players will have 4 months off. Although this would give some of the better players the opportunity to go out on loan in january in a similar way to the "designated players" from the MLS.
One thing I'd like to see is more emphasis being put on Welsh players, rather than bringing in journeymen from across the border. Airbus and Bala are the worst examples of this. Surprisingly TNS have quite a Welsh team in comparison although whilst there probably isn't a way of making this compulsory under EU law there are incentives you can offer.
I'd like to see a draft system set up, the FAW has spent all this money on a new training complex plus our exiles have tons of kids on their books who would benefit from playing in a summer league.
How about those with the most Welsh players have first pick whilst those with least get last pick. In the event of a draw the team who finished lower down goes first.
Let's get these kids noticed, playing and moved on. Playing inglish players doesn't help us at all.

so you want bangor, llanelli etc to play full seasons without the insentive of a european place?
we should give our euro spots to the valley vikings who are a regional football side rather than a football club?
that would be the death of the LOW

(see the plastic arsenal fans debate for proof) yes make a league to make wales a better footballing nation, with the european places given to these and watch us improve. id rather have "valley vikings" (valley minors would be better;) ) playing at sardis road in the summer with the aim of attracting an average of 5,000 attendance by 2015. an area of 230,000. who mostly support an english team? with no football to watch in the summer, going to these games. it would work. and the standard would improve every season. p.s they dont need american names but it would appeal i feel, it's the 21st century and new fans youre aiming for. dont forgett most games on a friday aswell
