Be under no illusion we will be in a huge minority for the Turkey game! Istanbul is about 2,300 km away from Baku. Ankara is about 2,000 km away. Turkey doesn’t border Azerbaijan either, you have to travel through Armenia, Georgia or Iran to get there from Turkey.

It is a cheap flight for them, about £60 or so, but they don't generally travel well. They'll take a few, but doubt it'd be like a home game.

Fully booked up Bristol-Milan-Tbilisi=Baku Baku-Tbilisi-Yerevan-Rome THEN all five options of ending 1/2/3/3/3 Up until the Final in Wembley. Flights £400 Trains another £100
... If we go to best third in BILBAO ... might need to add another £100 to that ... same if we have the misfortune to end second and need to go back to Baku - otherwise, I am air tight ;-)

I have no idea whether Turkey are any good. They must be alright after taking 4 points from france. I'm assuming they're a much better side than they appear on paper. Does anyone have any insight into their team/players and fancy doing a mini opposition scout report? 😂

You can't knock a team that can beat the best side in the world but I don't see a lot of quality in that Turkish squad to damage us. Is Arda Turan not playing for them any more?

I’ve went for Stansted - Istanbul - Baku....Friday 12 to Friday 19th. Originally came in as £249, but the Istanbul - Baku flight with Buta literally sold out as I was booking. Ended up booking with Azerbaijan Airlines and ended up paying £380.

We spoke to quite a few Turks when we were in Baku last month. A couple of the places we ate in were managed by Turkey fans. Around 40,000 Turks live in Azerbaijan, so they will be well supported regardless of how many travel from outside the country.

Turkey
2019 Record: W9 D2 L1 2018 Record: W3 D5 L3 2017 Record: W4 D2 L4 2016 Record: W6 D3 L4
Recent Notable Results (Strong nations in Euro Qualifying and the Nations League):
Turkey 0-0 Iceland France 1-1 Turkey Iceland 2-1 Turkey Turkey 0-1 Sweden Russia 2-0 Turkey Sweden 2-3 Turkey Turkey 1-2 Russia
This Looks like they're strongest side, based on their line ups in their recent games. It's a young side, the stars of which are Hakan Calhanoglu (25), Caglar Soyuncu (23) and Cengiz Under (22). They've got plenty of guys playing in the top flights of Spain, England, Italy and France and the rest of their side is generally made up of players playing for the top clubs in Turkey.

Without even looking I'd be willing to bet Turkey have done very well in their home games but have struggled more away from home. They have a vociferous following, and Baku will probably feel more like a home game to them.
In terms of their ability, all players will be playing top flight football, with a fair few dotted around the top leagues in Europe. Soyuncu, Yokuslu and Cengiz Under are good players. I would imagine they'll be a high energy side with decent technical ability. I don't think they'll be as good as the side that made the semis in 2008 though.
Good preparation for playing these would be to play any of the following; Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia. All relatively similar in terms of style and level of quality.

People were concerned about us playing mighty Belgium in Lille, I wouldn't worry about a few Turks outsinging us in Baku.

I think we have a stronger squad now than Euro 2016 - Hennessey, Davies, A Williams, Allen, J Williams, Ramsey, Bale have all got tournament experience from last time plus the quality of the new younger players gives us a great chance - add the fact we qualified from a difficult position in the group compared to qualifying for 2016 - these guys will be oozing confidence - remember Ledley was a doubt in 2016 so obviously having most if not all our key players fit is the key for Euro 2020

One of the great things about two games in Baku is I think it will be hardcore Welsh fans. I can’t see bandwagon jumpers going over. The Rome game yes.

There's work to be done central defence wise. Sort that out and we could progress deep into the tournament.

The June temperatures from this year make for grim reading. Only 3 days below 30C - with one day at 39C. The temperatures weren't that big a factor last time - but it will be this time. This should favour Turkey, but there shouldn't be anything to choose between us and Switzerland. Feel we really need to get something from that game to make the round of 16. www.accuweather.com/en/az/baku/27103/june-weather/27103
