I’m not sure where best to post this - someone local to me in Llandrindod Wells passed away last week. His name was Paul Jones and he travelled home and away to every Wales game since I can remember. I'm sure many Wales fans have met him all over Europe including EURO 2016. One of his final memories will be of Wales qualifying for Euro 2020!
Paul was also a big Swansea City fan and season ticket holder. He has watched them for years - making the 90 minute journey every Saturday!
If anyone has met Paul or has any memories, I would appreciate hearing from you. I can pass any messages on to his friends and family who know how much football meant to him.

I put early doors in another thread, but there's a bigger picture for me with this tournament. France was a must do whether you had to smash your budget, miss a family holiday or sell the wife. Having been to all the Quali's including solo to Baku, I have many reasons/strategies for only perhaps doing Rome (have ticket, might travel) and not losing any sleep over it. We are in a revolution and great things are happening and tournaments may become more frequent. I have to look at this element. Absolutely no loyalty points gained for Euro2020 but perhaps four aways excluding the Euros in 2020 will be critical for staying on the ticket ladder. Cost is of course a massive factor, family and work leave on a par. I think many will go away looking for the feeling we all experienced in Toulouse and the likes and although it will be good I'm sure, replication is impossible. I wish us the best of luck and a successful enjoyable tournament, but can't wait for the Nations League draw in March to discover my next adventure. (or an away friendly in March if that materialises)

I guess fact you have already been to Baku made it easier to miss this tome round. I’m only doing Rome in the group, tickets for other rounds should it happen as well. How far we go will depend if I can make any other away games next year

Bodins penalty cost me a trip to the States back in the day, I shall have a look at the Rome game but we'll see how things go.

Of course people won't go for a range of valid reasons, but I'm astounded by the level of apathy and complacency I'm hearing. Talk of us entering a period where we can expect to regularly qualify is not at all the given some are making out. I expect every qualification campaign over the next decade to be a massive battle and things could take a turn very quickly. Bale, ramsey, williams, ash, and hennessey are all entering their last couple of campaigns, with bale and ash (our best ever player and captain) already on the decline. While the likes of brooks and james are good players, they're a million miles away from peak gareth bale and aaron ramsey. Ampadu's a brilliant prospect, but there's nothing to say he will live up to what we all hope, he's already going through a tough-ish period this season. Our golden generation have peaked / are peaking and whilst we have lots of potential coming through, they'll do well to match that generation. So let's not get carried away and think Wales in 5 years - post bale/allen/rambo/ash/hennessey are shoe-ins to regularly qualify.
We're in the euros - only our third major finals in more than 60 years and there's no certainty that we'll qualify for another tournament in the near future. Yes the format is shit, but it will still be a brilliant experience with thousands of fellow fans and getting to watch us competing against italy, turkey, and switzerland. I can't wait! I'm not saying this to rub it in for those who can't go, I'm only saying it for those who have become complacent and expect this to become a regular thing - for fear that they will live to regret that complacency.

But I'll still be going to see them if they return to being shit. As I did when they were shit in the past. And I'll be able to get a ticket.

It's nothing to do with complacency iot - it's just that i cannot afford to pay these prices for tickets/hotels/travel etc - got to live after the event!!
If i won the lotto then happy days and would book tomorrow regardless if i got a ticket or not but with a big mortgage and bills to pay then impossible to for me to pay those prices.
Bandwagoners with loads of dosh will be there in there thousands despite probably not seeing one of those qualifying games grrrrr!!!!!!!

That's fair enough, and as I said there's all sorts of valid reasons for not being able to go. My post was more directed at the likes of donttakemehome above who's deciding not to go because of the 'bigger picture' where 'great things are happening and tournaments may become more frequent'. That may be the case, but there's a good chance that things won't work out like that. I think that is being slightly complacent and I don't want people to look back and regret not going to this because they thought more exciting finals would come up in the short term.

Yeah i see your point iot.
Don't take things for granted like if you can afford to go.
Even saving money in the hope/belief we can qualify for the next WC would be an option then realised it's in Qatar!!!

I remember we were sitting in a café in Novi Sad the day after the World Cup qualifier in Belgrade and got talking to another Welsh supporter who was sitting at the next table. He was from Llandrindod and from memory I'm sure that he said that he was a Swansea fan. We chatted about the Mid Wales football scene amongst other things. I can't say for certain that it was your friend Paul but it sounds very much as it was him.
