Unfortunately when we're tied to this 5 at the back formation Ben will be shoehorned into LCB. Whilst he is more than capable of playing there, he's shown that he's far better suited to playing at LB/LWB. Although, saying all that. The heat map from the Serbia away game shows that he still gets forward (just not as much as he would do) www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/40147354 He has an eye for goal and a much better crosser of the ball than any of the other FB's we have. Shame he isn't granted the chance to show that for us. Agree with this 100% I would say Jazz is our second best crosser from this position and Taylor a distant 3rd

I disagree, I think he's absolutely superb at the LCB role and is pretty much irreplaceable at that role for us. He is comfortable bringing the ball out of defence, and he has the vision and range of passing to do damage from deep. I certainly think he's also our best LB/LWB, but the Chester/Williams/Davies trio at the back is a vital part of our team. All three provide a balance, vision and comfort in possession that we just cannot sacrifice.

A very good point, together they provide a great platform and I can't fault Ben's role in this. He's been superb at LCB.
However, do you think they would be more effective in a back four, allowing Davies to venture further forward and influence the game even more?

All three provide a balance, vision and comfort in possession that we just cannot sacrifice. I didn't say he wasn't good playing in that position, just that his best position is at LB/LWB (as he's showing now for Spurs) Know it's not ideally the game to be changing formations but with the missing players we have, a pragmatic approach is surely needed. Jazz Richards is a RB and should be played there. Ben Davies is a LB/LWB and not a LCB (although he does do a good job there). Davies at LCB makes perfect sense when Taylor is available (although I'd still rather Davies at LB/LWB) as he does a good job and it gets a left footed player at LCB. Doesn't make so much sense when you have to play a RB at LB in order to play Davies at LCB (especially given his form for spurs) when his natural position is where you're playing a RB.
Rather than putting square pegs in round holes and sticking to our 5 at the back formation, why don't we maximise the skills of our players and play them where they are most effective...

It seems simple to me...
Bring Gunter inside to RCB, Jazz Richards at RWB and Davies pushing into the LWB role?

so 4 changes to the back 5?
Not sure that's agood idea, although I would rather see Ben at wing back (mainly so Taylor doesn't get back in)
I also believe Jazz is playing left back for Cardiff at the moment

Taylor is suspended.
Essentially we'd just shift everyone left, and bring Jazz in at Left back

Surely it'll be:
---- Gunter ---- Ash ---- Chester Jazz ----------------------------- Davies

Surely it'll be: ----   Gunter  ----  Ash  ----   Chester Jazz     -----------------------------      Davies I would like to see this but will Coleman try it in a make and break game? Especially if changes in the midfield?

Especially if changes in the midfield? I very much doubt it. I think he is almost certain to start with a back 5. And if we end up chasing a victory with 30 mins to go, he will probably bring Jazz off to make it a back 4. Nervous already.

I still think we should go for the jugular though as from their squad they appear to lack experience at the back. So go 4-5-1/4-3-3 and unleash Bale, Kanu and Vokes with Lawrence and Woodburn as options from the bench. Ramsey to be in a more defensive MF position for this game.

It would be good to see us attacking like that. I hope Lawrence starts tonight and on the weekend to get some important minutes under his belt. If he scores, I wouldn't rule out him actually starting.

He started Jazz at LWB against Serbia so I don't see why it would be any different for Austria.

Time for some love for the senior Ben in our team. Thought he was fantastic again and probably our best player over the two games (game rescuing performances from the bench aside).
In fact I'm going to stick my neck out and say he's in with a shout for Welsh player of the year. Our most consistent player so far in 2017, for club and country.

He was certainly the most composed (with Allen) of our senior pros. He rarely puts a foot wrong, and carries some threat offensively, as his effort that flew just wide illustrated.

Hes been superb end of last season and start of this. Looking very comfortable in his position now, and for me a better all rounder than Danny Rose. He is defensively strong, makes good clever runs up the channel linking play between defence and attack, has excellent crossing ability and chips in with a shot or two. Delighted for him.

Davies is a far better footballer than Rose, the only thing Rose has on Ben is pace

Chances created this season Mkhitaryan - 15 Ozil - 15 Ben Davies - 13 Silva - 12 De Bryne - 11 Top Fantasy Premier League point scorer - Ben Davies Yes! And i stupidly decided against him! Not once but twice!

He got an assist right at the end of the match too.
He is up there with Allen in terms of importance after Bale and Ramsey.

Davies and Matthews as wing backs in a back 5 could be interesting!
