are we keeping him in the side purely because he plays premiership football?
he's been awful for us lately,taken apart by montenegro and was at fault for their goal with that flimsy challenge,was all over the place last night
even when he plays well you get the feeling a mistake isnt far off
it would take a brave man to do it but is it time he was dropped?

He wouldnt have even been in the first XI last night if I was in charge. Montenegro wasnt a one off. I would rather have two avergae championship CBs who can be coached into playing as a unit rather than a guy who can be outstanding on his day yet is always capable of a shocking howler. I think its hard to make a unit with Collins in it as he is a total maverick in terms of his defending style. He is always to be found making those last ditch challenges that are his trademark and usually those sliding lunges are a sign hes been caught out of position yet again. Not good enough. I think Morgan and Williams have looked okay alongside each other. Bring a quality defensive coach in to work with them and we could have a solid- if unspectacular centre back pairing. Danny Collins and Ricketts should also be looked at at centre back in the Ireland game alongside Williams. Collins is a better CB than RB imo. There is also Ribeiro as well |

Collins is a good player. He had a better game than Ashley Williams who was awful. Someone made the point that our defence was cobbled together at short notice and so we shouldn't expect too much of them. I'll go along with that for now. It's easy to blame the defence anyway. We need to offer more in other areas of the pitch - such as the right flank and down the middle.

i think switzerland just got lucky ,
i would have said the pen was a dive and james collins was comical for one goal,
fair score would have been swiss 2 wales 1 or 2-2.
We will fuck up swiss's chances of poland / ukraine in cardiff with a full team of course...

He has conceded a goal in the last three games, his lunging in style is very risky and does indeed show poor positioning in the first place. Don't young centre halves get taught to never dive in unless it's absolutely needed??

i was out in switzerland and collins looked realy poor darcey blake was'nt great either on a positive note thought crofts and edwards had realy good games!

Excellent point that about being cruelly exposed playing for Wales as opposed to being carried by your club. Ridiculous really that a player of his supposed pedigree is shown up time and again at international level. Perhaps eric is right and hes out of form. If he is then he still needs dropping until he recovers, even if it means playing Morgan instead. As I said before surely its better to have an average centre back pairing that can be coached into a unit than trying to accommodate a CB who although premiership quality is so Jekyll and Hyde that you simply cant be sure he wont have a mad 5 minutes and gift the game to the oppo like Collins did against Montenegro? |

Ok, so he's no Franco Baresi, but Villa had the second best defensive record in the premiership last season and reached the league cup final and FA cup semi. I can't believe how bad he's been for Wales the last 3 games though. I thought he would been better in the last 2 at least because he had a pretty good game for Villa vs Spurs coming into the international break. He's making fundamental mistakes for us that he's not making at his club and it something that desperately needs to be sorted.
