So gutted for him. Definitely hurts our chances although it will be a great chance for someone to step up and attempt to fill his boots.

Tragic.
But seeing as the euros will have to be playoff from home on FIFA 2020, he’ll still be able to take part.

I know it might sound a bit melodramatic, but with that devastating news the chances of us doing well at the Euros have massively diminshed. Allen isn't our best player, but is our most important one. Perhaps Ampadu can do a similar job, but it's a massive ask. Utterly devastating news.

I think most of us would agree that his injury has reminded us all how essential he is. He's the last player we could afford to get injured. I can't see us getting out of the group now, although it's an opportunity for Morrell, Jonny Williams, maybe Huws, Smith or Vaulks. Ramsey Ampadu Morrell, would be my first choice mid 3. Hennessey Roberts Chester Rodon Davies Ampadu Morrell Brooks Ramsey Bale Moore

You are right, he is our most important player. At least we’ve got 3 months to get used to the idea & come up with a Plan B, but I can’t help thinking that in June we’ll be saying ‘Joe Allen would have made the difference’. A large part of me wants the whole thing cancelled solely on the basis of this news. Good luck Joe.

Could be a late bolter. *Edit - Although I do also like the idea of Joniesta coming in for Allen. Thought Jonny did really well from that position against Azerbaijan and think he could be valuable in relieving pressure, similarly to how Allen does by retaining the ball.

I agree I.e Joniesta but he needs to show that he's able to pass the ball quicker and simple at times, superb player but different to Allen, it takes a lot of discipline to play that role. I do think with Allen out, our full backs become more important, especially in building out from the back (A bit like Liverpool I suppose), so perhaps taking a risk with a more attack minded Neco is needed- although I'd like to see Matthews and Jazz given an opportunity in the coming friendlies too. Let's also not forget Roberts has been good for us in an attacking sense.

For me the replacement needs to be ampadu, it’s his chance to really show what he’s about after a poor loan where given the chance he’s shown what a good player he is. Mount and Gilmour at Chelsea have made they’re way in to the Chelsea side an I hope that’s put the fire in him for the euros to show his talent. Absolutely gutted for Allen but take him with the squad in a support capacity as he’s never let us down and deserves to be there with the squad.

Thought Jonny did really well from that position against Azerbaijan and think he could be valuable in relieving pressure, similarly to how Allen does by retaining the ball. Jonny had an excellent impact on that game and I don't think we would have won without him. But let's have some context - it was against an Azerbaijan team who were desperate to hang on to a draw and therefore sat right back. Jonny was therefore not tested defensively at all, instead we had almost all the ball in that final period and could use Jonny to inject some urgency from that deeper position. Against the turks, Swiss and Italians, that's not going to be the case is it. I love Jonny, but he has no defensive instincts whatsoever. In that role, positional awareness and anticipation are vital to keep the team shape and break up play. Allen is excellent at it, I don't think they are skills Jonny posseses. He would almost certainly get found out several times each game

Hennessey Roberts Chester Rodon Davies Ampadu Morrell Brooks Ramsey Bale Moore I know I've laboured this point, but rambo is much more effective in a deeper position as part of a midfield 3 - just ask any juve fan or Ramsey himself, it's a point he's made twice this season. With Allen out, I think there's an even stronger case for bringing Ramsey back alongside the other two. Must be a 433 for me with rambo, Ampadu and probably Morrell in the middle.

He has one, maybe two more campaigns in him.

In his position that's fine, unless he falls off a cliff in terms of class and I can't see that happening. Don't forget Ramsey is less than a year younger than him and Bale is less than a year older.
