Watched the first half. Ledley was one of the best players in a very poor looking Celtic side. Not that he did anything special, but his passes seemed to find team mates at least, which proved beyond many of his colleagues... That's the thing with Ledley-people call him a 'water carrier' or whatever, but he can do the simple things very well and he hardly ever gives the ball away. He's like a bowler who doesn't take many wickets but bowls loads of maidens, which builds up pressure and allows his team mates to take wickets and thus the glory... or something...
As for Gunter, he's a future Wales captain imo. I mentioned that before and got shouted down, but he really seems to have natural leadership qualities- He's committed, honest, gets on well with his team mates (best mates with Rambo), a first choice player, good with the media...

I thought that was odd. He ticks the boxes: character, passion, ability. What I like best is how doesn't seem fazed by anything. Facing Giggsy for Spurs and tucking him up nicely on a couple of occasions, and his performance in Frankfurt - one of the finest in a red shirt I've seen - show he has the kahunas I can see why trendy envisages Rambo as captain but I reckon Gunter will take over as long term captain with Rambo concentrating on pulling the strings. Not that it is a big issue

Apparently for Celtic last night against Utrecht....wonder what he's thinking about that.
Hope Lennon is using him temporarily in this position.

He played at left-back for Cardiff plenty of times. He also played central midfield and on the wing. Of the 3 positions I would say his weakest was at left-back.

Personally I dont believe that he will be playing enough quality consistently than if he had signed for Stoke. 6 Champions league games in one season wont turn him into a world beater overnight- he will have to qualify for the group stages at least twice for there to be any merit in a move to Scotland as opposed to Stoke. I admit there is also the Europa league, but I think it far better to play in a stable mid table side in one of the top 4 leagues in the world than play for one of the top two in a minor league where Champions league football isnt even guaranteed. That is assuming he got in the first XI at Stoke, there would be no guarantee of that. At least he is a shoe-in at Celtic, which is an indicator of how poor Celtic have become as being honest I think he would have started out as a squad player during Martin O'Neills time there. Take your point and I agree the Premiership is a better league but he won't be able to gain as much experience of playing against different styles of football as he would with a decent European run. Hey saints19, that European run didn't last past the end of August

Nope. Judge my claims in three years' time though, when Ledley's contract ends.

He's a better than average player, I think, but it's unfair to expect him to suddenly become Messi. He's never going to go on dazzling 30 yard runs or anything.

id love him to score a screamer against the ageing bulgarian team. I wouldn't expect something he has never managed at club level! Joe's main attribute is a massive engine, he'll cover every blade of grass 17 times during a game, but he'll never get "rave" reviews because he does a lot of things very well, but nothing exceptional. He can appear in the box to score (Russia away), or put in a reverse pass to set up a goal (Scotland home), but if the tactics are hoofing a long ball (Montengro away) the game will drift past him.

We ended up "hoofing the ball" because of the inability of the midfield 3 to do one of 3 things: 1) Find space. 2) Find each other 3) Tackle. "Hoofing it" was the safest option when it became obvious that Ledley, Edwards and Vaughan were not fit for purpose. Ledley might be a "better than average" player in the Championship. At the highest level he is well below average and, as the Montenegro game demonstrated, gutless to boot.

That was Toshacks fault that we lost to Montenegro, his tactics were totally wrong. The defence were bypassing the midfield by hoofing the ball to the strikers. No wonder our midfield were terrible during the game, they were rarely given the opportunity to be involved in any attacking play.

No wonder our midfield were terrible during the game, they were rarely given the opportunity to be involved in any attacking play. I'm sure those were Tosh's instructions to the letter. He also told them not to tackle, pressure or complete passes. James Collins was also under strict orders to allow Vucinic to ghost past him. Tosh is so mean- I reckon he caused 9/11, or at least he didn't do enough to stop it due to the press conference in which he was overly critical of Islam. I also read on a forum that he fell out with several senior Muslim clerics behind closed doors, all of whom had been close to Mark Hughes. Mark Hughes, nearly over threw the west and had massive support from the arab world.

Toshack did little wrong in team selection or formation for the Montenegro game. We all would have picked the same players in the same positions. I blame the players more than Toshack.
