Ledley looked like what he now is: an average player who plays in an awful league, where he can't even hold down a regular place. He is currently behind ramsey, collison, Vaughan, Allen, king, AND crofts in my book. Only a period of absolutely stirling form for his club should see him near a starting place again.

Ledley was rubbish tonight. But so was Ramsey, and I don't see anyone predicting the end of his career. I agree with this Storm. Ramsay was so poor in his 45 mins - and he hasn't had a good pre-season either if you read the Arsenal message boards. Maybe you have to give credit to what was a very well organised Australian side as well. But considering Ramsay has had a pre-season he just looked so far off the pace - the commentators kept saying in the first 20 mins that he was making a lot of good runs but we didn't move the ball upfield early enough (as usual). I thought Collison looked much better and played like the game meant more to him and he brought some go-forward. Allen too looked good, as did Matthews and Bale woke up in the last quarter. Vaughan also continues to impress (I was wrong about him and I admit it). Matthews and Taylor obviously look green but will develop and Matthews is a far more composed player than Gunther. We desparately need that quality 9 - Morison did make a difference and we must hope that a season in the EPL will help him develop. Overall though I thought that Australia were not much better than us especially looking at ball retention, but just know how to be more clinical and win football matches and looking at the last quarter maybe we have finally realised that if we take the game to our opponents we can achieve something.

Thought Allen had some nice touches. A midfield trio of Allen, Vaughan and Ramsey would be ideal but I think Speed is reluctant to select such a diddy central trio. Ramsey was too often isolated. We need to employ our full-backs more often when bringing the ball out. Gunter looked terrified to cross the halfway line. Taylor had a decent game though, and Matthews looked classy when he came on. I would definitely pick Matthews ahead of Gunter on last night's showing.
Not sure why everyone's scapegoating Ledley - especially with the awful Ashley Williams on the pitch. He was badly at fault for the first goal and he was AWOL for the second. Shocking.

I'm not scapegoating Ledley for the performance last night. I was massive fan of his, but he's been hugely disappointing for Wales for a while now.

"Taylor had a decent game though." Their goals and best chances came through Taylor's zone of responsibility. Defensively he was a disaster.

'zone of responsibility'? Is that like the 'coridoor of uncertainty'? Are you Geoff Boycott?

"Their first goal came from a cross from the LEFT hand side". No it didn't. Both of their goals and other chances came from their RIGHT, our LEFT, Taylor's zone of responsibility.

Oh yeah, you're right. I must have been more pissed than I thought last night. ;D Just rewatched the goals on youtube and I wouldn't blame Taylor for either of them.

Ledley was awful - yet again, he looked like a coward on the pitch, completely unwilling to take any responsibility. it was almost simon davies-esque.
In the midfield, I think Vaughan looked good - as did Allen when he came on, and Colison also.
Ramsey looked like he was playing too high up the pitch. Or rather, the players behind him did not know how to get the ball to him.
I know some people called this already, but I'm a little worried about whether Speed has a clear Idea. Will expand on this in a Speed thread.

Considering the general consensus on here is that Collison and Allen did well when they came on and Vaughan was quite good, and that Ramsey is our captain (and best player imo), and that David Edwards might be fit in three weeks time, I don't see what possible justification Speed could have for starting Ledley against Montenegro.

At the moment, my most optimistic prediction is that we'll fluke a goal and somehow not concede and win 1-0. The most pessimistic prediction ends with me ending my life with the bottle of pills due to severe depression brought about by the national team.

out of intrest how well does everyone think we'll do against montenegro? Th BBCminute by minute / text tracker last night said something like "montenegro will be licking their lips looking at this Wales performance" - have to agree, doubt we'll get anything from that game.

Yes, the only way you would predict a win for Wales at the moment is through some sheer fluke rather than us winning on our own merits. We would have struggled against pot 5 last night playing those bollocks tactics.
Montenegro are much the same as Australia- they dont give goals away (in qualifying at least) and they are tidy if not spectacular. Their main quality is the fact they play as a team unit and they have a lot of spirit. We saw last night how important it is that a team plays as a team unit. Australia are not world beaters but some of the passing moves were brilliant- yet simple.
Ill give you a prediction: If we start against Montenegro like we finished last night we have every chance of a result. What will actually happen is more of the same 4-3-3, lots of bullshit passing round the back and we will go in 1-0 down at half time again.

After last night I can't see us winning but come the day of the game I'll be full of optimism and saying we'll win.
At the moment I'll say a draw but no doubt just before the game I'll be post sayinga Wales win!!

Yes, Taylor looked awful, but where was the protection in front of him? We seemed to vacate about 80 x 15 metres down our left and Oz made good use of it. Taylor was left to deal with the consequences.

OK, Taylor shouldn't be totally off the hook for his defending, but it kind of goes back to Ledley. He used to be so good at offering protection to the left back, but the energy and confidence of old seems so lacking these days.
I noticed he scored again for Celtic at the weekend, but the judging by his Wales performances I'm not doing well in the SPL counts for anything these days. Will be interesting to see how he does in the Europa league and considering the competetion for places in the Wales midfield he needs to impress there to keep his international place.
