Very well taken goal tonight. 1st touch turned a half chance into an almost certainty.

Nice assist too. Southampton fans describe him as being "in the groove".
Superb goal and assist for Wilson today too, could have scored a hattrick. Two assists for Johnson, goal for Kieffer, and nice assist for Roberts, assist for Sheehan. Pretty good weekend.

"He (Page)said: "Brooksy has been ill since Thursday. He has not trained a minute on the grass. He was a gamble.
"Someone of Brooksy's quality, you want to get them on the pitch. We realised straight away that he didn't have a run in him".
Bizarre logic. Surely they had all of Tuesday to see if he was vaguely match fit?

Surely you'd give him a run out in the morning to get some sort of idea how healthy he is? Just another amateur moment to add to the list. I would also add that it looks unfair on Brooks, being subbed on then subbed off.

I would also add that it looks unfair on Brooks, being subbed on then subbed off. Pretty sure he didn’t literally mean that Brooks couldn’t run, I saw him doing plenty of running. What he means is he didn’t have the fitness to dribble past players or run beyond the defence, which is a massive part of his game. So not as simple as going for a morning jog! But yes, you would think other tests could have been taken to replicate match-like scenarios to see if he was ready

Need to manage him carefully if its an illness issue as he's had glandular fever as well as the cancer in recent memory.

Im not sure how well he’s doing at Southampton, but he looks to have lost a yard of pace, which is sad to see. His body is probably still recovering from that b*stard cancer, so hopefully he can return to the player he was, but for now he does need to be managed carefully and closely.

Nice to see him brought on with 35 minutes to go today. Hopefully means he's over whatever he had.
And no, this isn't a 'how can be fit for Southampton 3 days after he was ill' post. Given his recent history, him being ill or fatigued worries me, so very glad to see him involved today.

Thr narrative around him was surprisingly negative post-match, perhaps because he was subbed off. In the first half of extra time he was excellent, completing most of his passes and linking play well. Perhaps he flagged second half of ET, hence the subbing, but his cameo was a good one. It was a better performance from him than against Finland. A fit David Brooks is essential for us going forwards, in both senses of the word, as he has the guile and class to unlock defences that no one else has in our squad.

I have criticised Page for Tuesday but I tend to agree with you on Brooks on reflection as he was a net positive when he came on. So annoying that he got ill just before such an important game but hope he is well recovered now!

The footballing gods definitely weren't on our side. It looked as if Frankowski was going to miss the match but played the entire 120 minutes and was one of their best players completely nullifying Neco. Then Brooks gets ill, when he probably would have started, severely limiting his impact.

Yarmolenko scored a freaking OG, Wardy got injured during the playoff, UKR-RUS war postponed the match to June so that the vets who lacked match fitness like Rambo and Bale didnt have to play 2 important matches in 5 days, and Wayne played the match of his life…
