When travelling around the USA an American thought Wales was a city in Russia. A New Zealander I met told me that an American couldn't understand how he'd managed to fly from NZ to the states as he didn't think NZ was big enough for a runway. Judging by the quotes here there are a generation of imbeciles growing up all over the world. What has happened to education? Not blaming the kids themselves, if you see some teachers taking part in quiz shows on tv, they're just as bad. I fear for the future!! Football is a great way of learning geography, looking at an atlas and seeing where teams come from. And a good way to promote your language and cultural identity as a nation etc.

There's been a prominent Welsh sportsman per generation, IMO. Ian Rush, Joe Calzaghe, Ryan Giggs and now Gareth Bale. Everyone knows Tom Jones and the Manic Street Preachers.
Wales has underachieved as a nation for far too long. I myself am an economic migrant as I'd never get work in my field down in Pembrokeshire. I'll go there when I have money but, at the moment, I have very little of that!
I just can't get that Swedish girl's absolute amazement out of my head. She thought Cardiff and Swansea were in England. I was all "it's got it's own language" etc. Yet a Swedish Jack befriended me in a Stockholm bar...

There's only 5 international dates next year. Unless we get a 5 team group there's no room for any friendlies.

Am I right in thinking that the Euro group stage is only top two qualify with the regular 3rd place playoffs replaced by the Nations League playoffs?

If we are not in the playoffs could we possibly play a friendly during this time? Yeah if we aren't the in play-offs that would be a friendly window. If we are in a 5 team group the only free dates would be June when the Nations League finals are on. I think UEFA will force us into two friendlies, I'd rather be in a 6 team group tbh.

I've got my fingers crossed for a 6 team group and have a year of competitive matches 10 competitive fixtures in a calendar year will certainly test our strength in depth. Its also going need some fortitude from Giggs in his battle with club managers who wont give 2 hoots about our progress to the next euros.

I've got my fingers crossed for a 6 team group and have a year of competitive matches Think we deserve it after the bleak wilderness of October 2017-September 2018 of no competitives.

I take my cap (bucket hat) off to those trekking to Albania on a cold Tuesday night in November for the next friendly

I'd love it, especially the 6 game Autumn run with our young stars one year more experienced.
Bring it on!

No competitive games? Excuse me, but don't you remember that we were the runners-up in the prestigious China Cup. You make it sound like some kind of invitation only mickey mouse tournament ;-)

Think I just tried to erase it from my memory after the heartache of getting so far and losing in the final, worse than Russia in 2003 that one.

Its also going need some fortitude from Giggs in his battle with club managers who wont give 2 hoots about our progress to the next euros. 6 team group could spread out the difficult fixtures though, compared to a 5 team group, as effectively a 5 team group just misses out on the June double header. It would mean we don't play 2 games and have a 5 month gap before 6 games with about 10 weeks.

It would mean we don't play 2 games and have a 5 month gap before 6 games with about 10 weeks. I think the 4 remaining teams would have to play fixtures during the June double header. One team has to effectively miss out a pair of fixtures and beyond that there's only 4 remaining. Clearly the team in the nations league finals misses that round. I have a slight preference for a 6 team group but I'm not that bothered one way or another.

You might be right there, which could make it easier for us maybe then in a 5 team group if we have two camps with just one competitive game?
