Great to see Dan James in there.
Neil Taylor's recall is totally earned.
Very harsh on Joe Rodon.
But plenty of time to go...

No mention of his Welsh connection on there yet. How long has he been on the radar? Very surprised no one has posted about him on here.

Ryan said that Ben was not called up and needs a two week rest. Not eligible for Denmark due to 2 yellows.

A lot of praise from Ryan for Dan James - have a feeling he might be our super sub v Denmark ;-)
FC Twnte are asking for Matt back to play in their Saturday match, a day after Denmark. Again, plenty of praise from Ryan.

Only 11 remaining from the Euro 2016 squad. To me it really emphasises the quality coming thorough with the squad looking much stronger. Even taking into account their youth those that have come in are better than those that are out. Exciting times.

Bar Davies, more or less a full squad (*hope no one goes and gets injured at the weekend!*).
Nice to see Taylor back. Ethan's back from injury too..
Very excited. Cannot wait for this! 😀

I pride myself on my knowledge of Welsh football, I have never heard of James Lawrence. I can only imagine he’ll be pushing to get in the starting 11 if he’s an uncapped 26 year old getting given a chance. Good to see people playing abroad in the squad.

Good age for a centre back and seeing as Chester was capped at a similar age well worth a look. Must have decent pedigree if been at Arsenal and Ajax

Apparently they only became aware that Lawrence was eligible to play for Wales 6 months ago and they have been scouting him in that period. I read somewhere it was 1 Welsh grandparent and 2 somewhere else, so no doubt it will come out in the wash.
If he considers himself Welsh, satisfies the criteria and wants to play then welcome aboard. The stronger the squad the better.

He's playing at a decent level as well so could be a welcome addition to the squad.

Strong squad - and interesting addition in James Lawrence. The only thing I struggle to understand is how Lockyer is being selected ahead of Mepham. Rodon hasn't had a bad game for Swansea in the Championship and several excellent ones (including on Saturday). How can a League One player be ahead of him in the squad? The only reason I can think of is that Lockyear is a right-sided CB, and so is included on that basis ahead of the left-sided Rodon (with James Lawrence apparently left-sided too).

I understand now why Lockyear's been included ahead of Rodon. The FAW have Lockyear down as a Bristol City player...

Lockyer is unlikely to play, same with Rodon, so perhaps Giggs would prefer Rodon to be getting games with the under 21s? To be fair to Lockyer he's got over 200 league appearances and is only 23 so has a ton of experience despite his youth, perhaps Giggs would prefer that on the bench over someone who has performed well but only for a limited number of games?

I'm not convinced by that given the level Lockyear's being playing at. Players playing at clubs below Championship level should only be considered for selection under exceptional circumstances in my opinion. The only rational explanation I can think of is that Giggs may be looking to pair Lockyear and Lawrence or Mepham for part of the Albania game, with Lockyear on the right of the pairing. In any event, if Rodon continues in his current vein of form then its only a matter of time before he gets capped.

Good sign for Welsh football that Rodon can’t get in the squad. Strength in dept and all that.

Rodon, whilst captaining Wales U21s, played on the right side of his pairing with Mepham - as you can see here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=bdIDEnDIGD8The only rationale for selecting Lockyear ahead of Rodon is that Giggs wanted to balance the squad with a bit more experience, given that we've already got three rookies in Mepham, Ampadu and Lockyear as potential centre backs. The positive news is that Rodon's ability to play on either side of the defence will only increase his and Wales' options going forwards.
