Strange signing for Barry. Thought they were happy with their keeper so to shell out on a back up keeper shows they have plenty of money to throw around.

Even stranger post from you. Yes, Barry have a hell of a lot of money to throw around. I mean, with all their full time pros on wages to rival Bale...
And even if they did, are you moaning about them signing a back up keeper? Or should we play with just one all season?

You had a local lad from Llantwit on the bench most of last season then got a new back up keeper for the run in and now another new one.
Normally loan players are signed for the starting xi unless Lewis is off after Europe.
Another Llantwit boy signed by you last season and barely played. Another example of a player who could be playing locally but would rather a bit if cash. Mind you hes off to America soon so cash will help.

Throwing money around is a comparative thing for example Madrid get more than 2,000 for their biggest game of the season and can play on their home ground. Hope that helps you understand a little

Do you have a dislike for the Welsh Premier League or something? Are you one of those that advocate Cardiff City playing in Europe instead of the WPL teams on the basis of being a bigger club? Remember that Western Mail two-page spread in 2001?
Genuine question, what is your problem with Barry/WPL? Any team in the WPL can sign whoever they want, providing players agree to it and no rules are broken. I can't comment on other teams, but Barry give all players a chance. If they don't make the team, then they don't make the team, just like any other team on the planet.
BTW, although we couldn't play yesterday's game at Jenner Park, yesterday was one of my favourite experiences watching Barry Town in 24 years (shit, I'm getting old!). We could've lost 10-0 but the feeling of getting back to Europe is something no one can take away no matter how much we're poo poo'd.

In fairness I would bet I have seen more Barry games than you. Also played for the team.
Kings Lynn and Nuneaton away on a mo day
Just dont like the way they have been favoured by the vale council to a massive extent and how they have ruined junior football in the vale. Some teams now refuse to play them.
As for Cardiff my views are well published on here so your barking up the wrong tree there.

Maybe should of got an experienced defender instead. Very poor getting thrashed in Northern Ireland. Could of been 10 over the 2 legs.

Heard yesterday that the reserve goalie from last season wasnt even taken to Northern Ireland.
Happy to have him travel all last season but too tight to take him on the trip.
Poor form that.
Also heard Cardiff have a clause in Ratcliffes contract which means they have to pay double if he doesnt play at least 50% of games. Not good for the current keeper.

It's called competition for your place - nothing new in football. Regarding the result, we could've lost 10-0 and we still wouldn't have cared. It's genuinely been emotional seeing Barry in Europe again. Hopefully we can just build on it and be competitive at these stages in a few years. Not sure what the "I've seen more Barry games than you" comment is about. I've been supporting Barry since I was 10 years old (I'm now 34) and no other team apart from Wales. So you may have another 10 years on me? So what? Just proves you're old bro Sincere apologies for the Cardiff City comment though

I am old and couldn't name half the grounds I went too.
Racing club Warwick was a good one as were newbury and hungerford on a fa cup run. Went home and away for many years but all a long time ago when we had legendary battles with Merthyr.

From what I've seen of Ratcliffe, I think he's the real deal. I genuinely believe he could've been our next number one.
You know when you see a player and you "just know"? I just like when I saw Ben Davies for the first time, I "just knew" he would be an outstanding player for Wales.
I have no idea what's gone wrong for Ratcliffe. I'm an advocate of the Cymru Premier, but he's much better than this.

If he plays well there TNS might become interested, if he does well there maybe might be able to work his way back into the football league. He'll get regular games at Ponty, so it might actually be a better move than it appears at first glance

Regular games that are filmed every week and posted online and on TV. Not many better shop windows than that.

If he does do well, he'd be more likely to get a move directly from Ponty than from TNS. Can't think of any players that have gone from TNS to the EFL recently. The irony of TNS being the only professional team is that it's a bit of a dead end for players and they don't seem to get an opportunity to move higher up. All the players that have moved from the Cymru Prem to the EFL recently have done so from the likes of Bala, Penybont, Barry and Cardiff Met. Promising young players at TNS get trapped there, by their full time contracts and (relatively) high wages I presume. Look at Ben Clarke, who's probably been the best young player in the league the past couple of seasons, but other players are being signed by EFL clubs ahead of him. I suppose League Two teams are happy to take a gamble signing semi pro players for free, but aren't too keen on buying them out of their pro contracts at TNS.

Hmmm, he always had a strong whiff of a Luke Pilling type keeper for me. I remember back in the u20 tournament in Toulon whenever that was, we had Pilling in goal and people were raving about him on here after he made quite a few full-stretch / acrobatic saves. But I remember thinking at the time, most of those shots weren't close to the corners / crossbar, and he was only at full-stretch and had to make such difficult saves because of how short he was. Whereas a normal sized keeper would save it and make it look like a routine one, his saves looked like worldies. Don't get me wrong, of course there are smaller than average keepers who are brilliant players, but it can sometimes be misleading. It was similar with Ratcliff when he played for our u21s, so it doesn't really surprise me that he's been released by Cardiff and had to drop down while Pilling is currently at Telford. I always felt that Ratcliff and Pilling were way over-hyped. I would be surprised if either make it back into professional football, let alone prospects for the national side.

Pilling - I read a few weeks ago that he has dropped down lower than that now
If you look back say a Wales U17 squad from 10 years - see how many players have made it!
its a very low percentage that make it to the senior squad
its the nature of of the beast

Ratcliffe was on the cusp of the first team last season but suffered a very bad injury, he was given until last month to prove his fitness
I said earlier in this thread that he was a Phillips injury away from starting but Ratcliffe's own injury showed the fine margins between making it or not. Had he not had that injury it's likely he'd have played a game or two at the end of last season to prove himself. As it is he was out of action and Cardiff brought in 2 keepers so I think he'd have been released even if he had proven his fitness
