Yeah I know, and I should think "fuck 'em", but I just know the disrespect is going to be infuriating.

Imagine walking out against England at the World Cup with CYMRU emblazoned across the back of our tracksuits - an historic moment & statement.
Make it happen please Mr Mooney.

I like the idea in a romantic sense... but it's going to open a can of worms. Do you think the English media will consistently say 'Cymru'? I can see the articles already. They'll probably pronounce it as "Kimroo" too. English media only gives us lip service when they want to so couldn't care less about them. Already a positive with this being announced on Talksport bulletins earlier with perfect pronunciation of Cymru... 👏👏👏

We can already do this - changing the team name used in English will only cause confusion. Poland wear "Polska" on their kit despite being known as Poland in English. Germany likewise with "Deutschland", Italy with "Italia" and of course, France, "France". If it ain't broke don't fix it.

Reading some absolute shite on the EBC Have Your Say comments on the story You can’t be surprised at that though surely, it’s a haven for the juvenile, ignorant & arrogant - your everyday England & Premier League football fan.

Hopefully this gets of the ground. A great idea and would only promote us as a country.
I really don’t understand how anyone could spin this negatively.

They'll probably pronounce it as "Kimroo" too. The whole point is that they will have to learn, and in forcing them to engage with the language their awareness will raise. I've met English people who literally didn't know Welsh existed as a language, moves like this will change that

Hopefully. I just don't have much confidence in them having the initial respect to learn it. Can you imagine football loving wankers like Piers Morgan embracing change and saying Cymru?
I think I'm swaying towards the name change (the idea is awesome). I'm just already raging at the disrespect (that hasn't even happened yet).

Not sure there's any expectation that Piers Morgan and his ilk will start using the name Cymru. More that UEFA and FIFA use it for official purposes rather than the current default 'Wales'. It's not that big a deal really. Far more significant is the fact that the FAW already use 'Cymru' exclusively as the name by which the team is known - and without any fuss or furore that I've noticed.

We're not trying to win over the unwinnables like Piers Morgan and his like. We'd be hoping for more middle of the ground people to notice "huh...why does it say CYM next to the Wales flag?" and for them to look into it and better understand things from a Welsh perspective. It's a simple idea, but it says a lot about our identity, and more importantly the confidence we have in our identity - which is a far cry from the way things used to be in our country (From what I'm told by older folk!)

I raised concerns, listened to the opinions on here and then was persuaded this was a good thing.

Not sure how I feel about his talk of helping or collaborating with the WRU to change the culture and significance.
Also, why does he feel like he's in a position to do this? The FAW worked hard to reform and improve their cultural significance long before he got involved.
Apart from being a serial tweeter, what exactly has he done for the FAW so far? Interested to know.
And regarding collaborating with the WRU or offering advice/guidance, I don't recall the same sentiments vice-versa when Welsh football's been in dark places - and there's been a lot more of those times than what the rugby lot have endured.
I think he's got enough on his plate to sort out our situation after a dismal world cup, where most of out players looked completely f*cked.

What name changed? The WRU? I think he’s got plenty to sort out at home with the FAW, with what the international setup, grass roots improvement, making international games more accessible to everyone across Wales. All I know is that if the shoe was on the other foot, we wouldnt get any sympathy or support.

Jonathan Ford went about things quietly, modernising the FAW & revolutionising things! Maybe he wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea but that wasn’t really his job to please everyone! Mooney seems like a nice bloke but he does seem to make a lot of promises on twitter, we’ll see over time how many of them are kept!

I’ll answer the question with the same sentiment shown by belle vue. He’s done fuck all for Wales. Nothing. He was supposed to make the Cymru Premier better like the Irish league. Nothings happened, nobody new is professional and none of our teams have qualified for Europe and no Welsh premier team has developed a player for the national team ... except maybe Cabango a little bit.
