Just checked with my mobile network (EE) and calls made in Dubai are charged at £2.05/min & £2.05/min to receive. Texts cost 67p each and Picture Messages are 73p. The charges in Qatar are the same.
Has anyone looked into this and got any suggestions?

Also, Virgin Mobile is reasonable for tourist sim deals, and will be able to use in the GCC region. I had to do this when I first arrived in UAE before I got a Resident Visa.

Just checked with Virgin Mobile UAE, something I'm going to have to look into myself.
You can buy data roaming with them on a Daily, Weekly or Monthly basis.
Daily 750mb is 35 AED, 8 quid.
Weekly 2gb is 100aed, 22 quid.
Monthly 20gb is 300aed, 66quid.
Seems to be the same price with Du.

Exactly what I'm after as I'm only there for the first 2 games so a 1 week sim is ideal

For those staying in Qatar, what accommodation have you gone for? The cheaper apartments seem to be in the middle of nowhere and I don’t care to be spending £300 a night for somewhere just to sleep. Considering the fan villages as they seem to be close to metro lines. I'm seriously considering the fan village as well. I Think it may make the trip to be honest, loads of different nationalities staying in those containers, may be a great laugh. A few things to do there and somewhere to chill and watch a few games.(I think these villages are dry mind) Also, by the looks of it one of them is a fairway out and away from a Metro so care when choosing which one to go for.

Do you know per chance of a SIM (bought in Abu Dhabi or Dubai) that will roam freely (for no additional charge) in Qatar, UAE and Oman?
I'm landing in Abu Dhabi, then to Sharjah, Oman and Qatar ...

A change to the Cybercrime Law in 2016 states that […] Whoever uses a fraudulent computer network protocol address (IP address) by using a false address or a third-party address by any other means for the purpose of committing a crime or preventing its discovery, shall be punished by temporary imprisonment and a fine of no less than 500 000 AED and not exceeding 2 000 000 AED, or either of these two penalties,
In short, this makes the use of VPN services de facto illegal.

For anyone who is on Vodafone pay monthly, you can use your home plan for £6 a day in Qatar.

No, you will have to do it separately - I will have to buy a Qatar roaming package myself although I have a UAE sim card.

Have gone for fan villages. The one next to our stadium is available only for the night either side of our opening game annoyingly! The more expensive beach tent one is dry not sure about the others.

Does anyone have any info on fan zones. Are there any close to each stadium or just one or two in the city centre?
As we’re shuttling in from Abu Dhabi for each game we would like plan where to go and what to do but I can’t seem to find any info?
We have 10hrs to kill before KO v USA, and 6hrs before KO for the Iran & England games

Looks like the big fan zone is Al Bidda Park Yes Al Bidda Park , West Bay at top of the Corniche and then be up near Lusail ! I purely by luck have my hotel near Al Bidda and the Metro hub Musherib (?) has all three metro lines running thru it - 30 mins to Stadium for 🏴 Games

Has anyone bought tickets for the final from the codes? Only bought up to the quarter-final. I did that in 2016, thinking there was little chance of us going further, but then look what happened!

Has anyone bought tickets for the final from the codes? Only bought up to the quarter-final. Same here. I would have bought the other two, but the thieving FIFA antics of a 10% fee for these conditional tickets (which will not get refunded, as it is not the "face value" minus 40 riel etc). That really put me right off.
UEFA are absolute saints, in conparison to this gang of bandits.

That’ll teach me for not reading the detail, I’ve gone all in for every game to the final, France was incredible but also so stressful sorting travel and tickets so I thought it was worth at least sorting tickets this time, I’m there til the 1/4 regardless. 🏴

If the beer is cheaper there and you’ve travelled a long way for the World Cup experience that’s where you’re going to congregate most days. Imagine if the Euros in 2016 were only played in Paris with only one fan zone if you see what I mean.

Given the times of the games it should never get that busy

Given the times of the games it should never get that busy You’d like to think something would be organised but the fan zones I’ve visited in the past are open to all fans and the general public. it’s hard to believe there’s hardly any info out there. Nothing to stress over at the moment I guess but if the best part of 40,000 have to get the 13 miles to the stadium and the busses and metro at the Al Bidda fan zone are being used by everyone you’d have to leave quite early to get to the stadium in good time. Not sure why but I have real reservations above the organisation of this World Cup due to the lack of information. Lack of information to me means not prepared. i do notice the Mall of Qatar is right next to ‘our’ stadium. www.google.com/maps/dir/Al+Bidda+Park+-+Rumaila+area,+7GX9%2BR6X,+Doha,+Qatar/Ahmed+bin+Ali+Stadium,+Ar-Rayyan,+Qatar/@25.3127406,51.359557,25089m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m14!4m13!1m5!1m1!1s0x3e45c52a6ed5dd39:0x7c0267cd404f00ed!2m2!1d51.5181195!2d25.2996027!1m5!1m1!1s0x3e4675cdff99e939:0x33f2dc1b4db9730c!2m2!1d51.3422893!2d25.3297088!3e0?hl=en-gb
