Morocco 45 mins away from being the first African nation in a World Cup semi. God I hope they do it, but God I hope France beat England if they do it They made Spain and Portugal looks clueless so logic dictates England will throw themselves against a wall and get done on the break….but you just know England will find a way to beat them. It’s concerning for sure and there isn’t really a juggernaut on the other side of the draw. I saw someone refer to the Southgate Draw Generator and it certainly seems that when it comes to the natural order of things in a tournament the Southgate era has coincided with predictability going out the window when mapping England’s route to a final. We’re probably as close as we’ve ever come to England winning something right now. It feels even closer than the penalties against Italy because I had total faith that Italy would have high quality penalties. If England get past France they won’t have a high quality opponent between them and the World Cup. Brace yourselves.

He was incredible yesterday against a Dutch side on a really good run. I know it's scary for us Welsh fans, but I just don't see how England can win this tournament personally

Kounde, primarily a CB playing RB for France tonight, laughable stuff, not sure when Mick McCarthy took charge of France!

France are pretty depleted without their key midfielders and their B team against Tunisia looked like a massive step down in quality and organisation. People talk about Southgate being limited, but Deschamps has got a lot of his success through having generational talents to utilise.
If the worst happens I'll just not look at TV, radio, newspapers, twitter etc for the next decade.

If England can lock him out (and again, sods law that they would manage it) then I just can’t see the rest of the Argentina being able to compete with England. It’s not as simple as this, granted, but man for man England are A level above Argentina. The worrying thing is that the only side that, on a squad level, can compete with them are France. Heart, organisation and desire (which count for a lot in this World Cup) are admittedly not necessarily England’s strength.

Getting nervy now. Let's face it England are due to win a penalty shootout or just get a bit of luck in a big game, can def see them squeezing past France tonight. They beat Colombia in a shootout at the 2018 WC. I meant against a bigger nation. A France/Italy/Argentina type of opponent.

Anyone else noticed that the talk of LGBT-hating-human rights abusing-back hand taking- migrant death ignoring-corrupt Qatar seems to be getting less and less the further England get in the competition?

France scored two from open play and England couldn't , that was the difference.

As I said upthread. England could quite easily go an entire generation winning nothing. Belgium can tell them there are no guarantees.
For what it’s worth it felt to me like England were only in the game for a short period. France sleepwalked their way through that game. Just doing enough. England had to blag penalties just to keep up and even then the penalty spot betrayed them. A heavyweight championship boxer winning on points because the plucky underdog just wouldn’t go down.

Pundits really disrespectful to Morocco after the game moaning about their "missed opportunity". Morocco beat Belgium, Spain, Portugal and drew with Croatia. Topped their group and only conceded one goal on the way. An own goal.
They beat Iran , us (a poor Cymru) and Senegal and think they would have walked into the final.
Glad they are out the arrogant f****s.

I was in the pub earlier and England fans were-
A) laughing at Portugal complaining about the ref B) cheering Morocco because it would make an easier semi final for them.
Now France are playing Morocco and Wngalnd fans are complaining about the ref, you couldn’t make it up haha
I left before kick off for obvious reasons but part of me wishes I’d stayed haha.

Can we put to bed all the stuff about goals in the group stage now?
England were the team to be feared of the group stage, apparently. Scoring a sackful and conceding 2 going into the game against France. What good did it do them? All the goals they previously scored obviously had zero influence against a decent team because they needed pens just to stay in the game whilst their opponent scored legitimate goals from open play.

France weren't that impressive, any of these 4 nations could win this cup.

I’d love Croatia to win it. I backed them earlier in the thread as still a very good team.

Argentina for me. Watched them twice out in Doha and their fans are something else. Fanatical support and the ones we met were lovely.
That said, wouldn't mind any of the remaining teams winning it now.
Been a belter of a world cup to watch (minus our pitiful contribution of course)

I'm rooting for Morocco all the way. Croatia would be nice too. Who would have guessed these as the final 4. But yeah Morocco as World Champions would just be too amazing. I've got a feeling France will beat them 3-0 and it'll go down as a one step too far moment.
On another note, France and Croatia in back to back World Cup Finals...

Did anyone else think the second England penalty was incredibly soft? It looked like the defender could have eased him out of the way for it but did the big man thing of putting him to the floor, at worst just get up and get in his face for not having to do that, a penalty though... Completely in agreement with them that Kane should have had a penalty early on.

Nah, it was an absolute idiotic 'challenge'. A full on barge into Mounts' back. Don't know what the French player was thinking.

Nah 100% a penalty. Idiotic by Hernandez. Worst defending you’ll see in a quarter final. He must of been backing 2-2

Yeah I don't know what he was thinking either, but if he had stood between him and nudged him out it would be fine, just the forced used was questionable. I thought it looked pretty clear that Mount was caught under it. If I was a ref I would have thought it was a d**k move from the French player but not enough to give a penalty.
