I suppose realistically they'll be aiming to be African champions, and get out of the groups at the next world cup. Honestly that would be a success. Only a few of their squad will be too old for the next one, most will have another go so given this experience they might do well again

What's everyone's team of the tournament?
Bono Hakimi-Otamendi-Gvardiol-Hernandez Amrabat-Ounahi Messi-Griezmann-Mbappe Giroud

I'd be tempted to put the Croatia keeper in. The Moroccan one was amazing too, but the Croatian dragged them through 2 penalty shootouts.

Not sure about Hernandez, hilariously poor against England.

Morocco have been the highlight of the World Cup for me, they played some absolutely scintillating and fearless football at times and they play on the edge which makes for great entertainment. Both Morocco and Croatia treated that 3rd place play off like a final and the anger and passion in the Moroccans right until the end was a great advert for the World Cup and for anyone who thinks the 3rd place play off is pointless, it was a great game. I really hope Morocco carry on playing this way, despite all of their injuries they never stopped.

I said to my mate "France are playing like Wales", turns out that they were carrying unfit players, just like we were.

At least Deschamps had the balls to make a double sub after 35 mins.

The key difference. I’m actually still waiting for page to make some changes against Denmark at the euros

Managers haven't caught onto 5 subs yet. Still waiting till the 60th minute or till the last moments of the match to bring on a change.

With all due respect I think the main difference here is the pool of talent available, Coman and Thuram would be the best players in our squad and they're on the bench for France.

I have to be honest, I didnt realise France had such a good bench. I dont know much about these, but Mueni, Camavinga and Thuram have been excellent.
Messi has been anonymous since the second half. Argentina look pretty spent here.

Very nice of Lautaro Martinez to put in this performance so Dembele doesn't look so bad

What's terrifying is the age of France's squad, 17 are 26 or younger so they'll be around in 2026

Hell of a final but God what a shithouse side Argentina have been through the whole tournament, culminating in those penalties. Any side playing them has to get down to their level or they’ll be at a disadvantage.

When Martinez throws the ball away before a penalty he should be booked, he should have been sent off during that shoot out, not booked, he did it more than once.

When Martinez throws the ball away before a penalty he should be booked, he should have been sent off during that shoot out, not booked, he did it more than once. He’s been doing it years. There was some gamesmanship from him in the copa America iirc. I blame France because they surely would have known this and played with a straight bat in response. You can’t do that against Argentina and you can’t expect the ref to sort it out, you have to match them and France just seemed to meekly accept it.

Mental to think next World Cup it’ll be us in the final watching Tom Bradshaw scoring a hatrick from a chris Gunter cross after page made vital substitutions in the 30th minute

Nah mun. As ever, am now mindlessly looking forward to our next game against Croatia, full of optimism that new tactics, new spirit and new players will emerge to take us to the next level. Convincing myself that Ramsey will reinvent himself as Modric, a young world class Welsh qualified keeper will emerge and Page becomes tactically adept. Nadolig Llawen

Even though they lost, France tonight were a good example of utilising 5 subs and bringing on chaotic players who can disrupt opposition. Kolo Muani was a chaotic nuisance and a changed France's attacking dynamic which should be held in my opinion in the same weight as creative players.
Shame we don't have any of them!

Mbappe or Haaland gentleman? Mbappe all day for me. Gutted for the French, they have an abundance of young talent emerging though. Think ZZ could take them up a level again.
