Thousands and thousands of fans, for whatever reason, will not be going to Qatar but will want Wales to do well and to show their support.
Hope there will be much investment in 'Welsh dragon' car flags to display on the roads from mid-November onwards! And suitable banners draped on houses, shops and public buildings!
Will there be countrywide 'fanzones' (bearing in mind the vagaries of our weather in late autumn/early winter)? Large covered spaces and marquees etc may need to be ordered.
How about big screens on matchdays at e.g The Racecourse, The CCFC Stadium and/or other grounds?
Could the FAW / Welsh Gov't appoint someone to co-ordinate events and/or offer advice to organisers?
Hopefully the new Wales shirt, when it comes out in early autumn, will have a long-sleeved version for freezing domestic users! Qatar folk will be happy with short-sleeves, of course.
Any other ideas, against the current background of gloomy world and economic news, on how to prepare for what will be a great pre-Christmas party period?!!

I agree regarding your idea of screens at grounds. Obviously this is a lot to organise and not cheap, but wouldn't it be great if they turned local football clubs of towns into fanzones? I was imaging big screens in front of stands so fans could watch under cover etc. But doubt anything like that would happen.
Another option I was thinking of was local theatre's and halls. I've never been a big fan of watching games in pubs, so that would be another idea.

Watching USA v Wales - 21/11/22 - in e.g a sports bar in Boston (though not a 'hot and sunny') could be fun - a great city to explore; a place more knowledgeable than most over the Pond regarding football; a few nights in a top hotel; eating great seafood, imbibing Sam Adams lager and ribbing a few Yanks when we beat them; and all for half the price of a trip to Arabia!

Must admit I really enjoyed Boston. Lots of British style pubs with some decent ales and only 6 hours flight

Go somewhere hot and sunny that isn’t Qatar to watch it. That’s what I’m doing Why not just go to Qatar? others might see it differently but for me it’s firstly the cost, secondly the human rights, thirdly the cultural restrictions. I went to see Wales play Israel and that’s about as much of the Middle East as I want to see, especially with some of the eye watering sums bandied about for 10 days in Qatar or wherever. I’ve got the free use of a villa in Spain for as long as I want it over the World Cup so I can get pissed up with carefree abandon, I’ll have decent weather so I can pretend it’s summer and I’ll be coming home with plenty of money to spare- that’s a much better deal for me personally If it was the US World Cup (or the Russia one 😩) then that would be a different story. Really hope we qualify in 2026. Not sure I’m too fussed about Germany in 2024, been to Germany a few times already.

I'm on seven away's on the list, with 2 memberships and went to Azerbaijan for the Euros but find myself in stage 3. Its my fault, I haven't had a tournament ticket since the last world cup and its absolutely the right thing that those who commit to all the home games are equally rewarded. Its just left me up shit creek.

I don’t think the USA has the best human rights either, a country that has a massive gun problem and now many states abortions are illegal. Wow. How forward thinking a place that is. I’m going to watch Wales at the World Cup, I’d go to the moon if we had to.

Some people will pay £100 for a gig, others won’t. Each to their own. Couldn’t care less if there’s no beer in Qatar. Not my main focus in life. Just like why I wouldn’t queue in Rotterdam for 0% when the game was on.

To pick up on everyone else’s replies- yeah that’s it isn’t it? I like getting drunk around football events and that has got me in to trouble in the past in intolerant cultures (I got arrested for singing in the street when I went to see us play Russia in the 2004 play off!) so there’s no way I’d feel comfortable going to Qatar even if the area was one I was interested in visiting. I’ll be watching with interest how football and Qatari culture mixes during the tournament.
And also yes the ticket system is a pain in the arse. I don’t think the clampdown on tickets helps at all really. Obviously they probably just want to control immigration but stopping people from attending just to visit the country and cheer your team in a fan zone is cutting their nose off to spite their face and is indicative of them wanting the prestige of a World Cup but not really the tourism that it brings with it.
All in all, for me, it’s an awful place to hold a World Cup at an abominable time of the year. But hey that’s me, for the rest who go I hope the experience exceeds expectations and is worth the outlay. I also hope those watching it back home can get something positive out of it too- for me I’m leery of the potent mix of office parties, Christmas shoppers and football fans. It just seems so odd holding a tournament in Christmas season 😩

If that's your attitude, why aren't you coming across as very understanding over how people are choosing to spend their money? Not everyone wants to drop over a grand on going to Qatar, people value other aspects of their life higher. I could've gone to Qatar if I'd put off buying a house for a year, should I have done that?

Although "the grass is always greener..." is a slightly inappropriate phrase to use when discussing Qatar, I think one possible outcome in Nov/Dec will be that we Welsh fans who end up staying away from Qatar will be rather envious of those hardy souls who have gone.
Whereas the 'Arabian travellers' might end up hankering just every once in a while for a warm £2.50 pint of ale at their local 'Spoons, plus £7.50 burger and chips - and all WC matches being regularly shown free of charge on big screens at various venues!

I will be in Vegas for the USA game, booked a very long time ago. Apparently they really get into the World cup so should be fun. Thankfully it's the late game so an 11am kick off. I hope back home we really give this historic moment the attention it deserves with different fan zones etc.

I like getting drunk around football events and that has got me in to trouble in the past in intolerant cultures (I got arrested for singing in the street when I went to see us play Russia in the 2004 play off!) Please tell this story. Me and my mate were drinking in a bar near red square and my mate was drinking lager with a vodka top (he’s a hardcore drinker 😂), I was rather more sober and had my wits about me. We left when the bar kicked out at midnight and walked back to our hotel (the Ukraina) singing “Goodnight Irene” the Bristol Rovers club anthem. All of a sudden three random blokes got out of a car and grabbed us, threw us in the car and drove off with us. It was fucking terrifying 😂 Anyway me and my mate are in the back seats with one of the blokes sat between us, my mate goes to lamp him and just as he does so I see light glinting off the badge on the guys hat and I realise they are Police! I manage to stop my mate from hitting him and I try to explain they just need to take us to our hotel. But as it was one of the “seven sisters” in Moscow I can see it out the back window disappearing into the distance. I then realised that things were probably going to get a lot worse before they got better! Anyway I had read in the lonely planet guide book that it’s normal to bribe Russian police and that shaking down tourists was a perfectly standard part of Russian culture so I passed the guy in the passenger seat my passport which had a 5000 rouble note stashed in it. The guy opens my passport and the bribe falls into his lap. He picks it up, looks at me, looks at the bribe and looks at my passport and repeats this again, he’s giving me the vibe that he knows I’m trying to bribe him, he gives me my money back and keeps the passport and then I really started shitting myself 😂 So the car pulls into a dark back road and I’m picturing all kinds of horrible stuff is about to happen. There’s a spotlight above a door way and it turns out that’s the local cop shop! They bundle us inside and my mate is thrown in a cell while I’m taken to the front desk and searched. When they found my match ticket I expected things to only get worse as they would probably think we are hooligans…..but weirdly that seemed to justify our presence to them and they started dusting me down and being nice and all my previous shouts of “vodka!” and “drink!” to try and explain the state of us were now being understood. One of them even goes to give me the badge off his hat But keeps taking it away at the last minute, I twig what’s going on and give him the 5000 rouble note, he then gives me the badge. He then goes to get the badge off his mates hat and they start getting into a fight. I was like “just leave the badge ffs!” 😂 but he was insistent so I ended up with two badges for my bribe money! So back we go into the car and they drive us back to our hotel, we’re all best mates by now 😂 The hotel had a huge drive and they dropped us off at the top of it. I told my mate that one word out of him until we got into the hotel and he’d get a clip. We start walking up the drive and my mate starts up with fucking Goodnight Irene again. The police car was driving off but now skids to a halt and calls me over to the car. I start shitting myself all over again but the guy in the passenger seat points to the backseat of the car- my wallet had fallen out of my pocket! I gratefully took it back and got my mate into the hotel. I went for a drink in the hotel bar to unwind and eventually left when a shout of “get naked if you love Cardiff!” went up. A perfect end to a perfect night….😂 Anyway the next morning I woke up and thought I’d had a mad dream where we got snatched off the streets of Moscow, then I opened up the bedside drawer to find the two badges and realised it actually happened. My mate was like “what happened last night, I can’t remember anything” I was fuming and told him exactly what happened. He was like “yeah I remember something about being in a cell now” 🙄🤦♂️ Fucking terrifying at the time but I laugh about it now- I got an entertaining story that people seem to like hearing out of it not to mention the Russian police badges. I haven’t done many Wales away trips but the ones I have been on have certainly never been dull!

We were also in the Ukrainia and I think you were quite lucky getting a lift home off the police as one night a group of four Welsh lads got out of their taxi at the hotel and got jumped by a band of Russian hooligans. On a lighter note at the pizza parlor around the corner from the Ukrainia one of the lads in our company ordered a "Four Cheese Pizza", it was on the menu, in English, and ten minutes later the waitress brought him four cheese pizzas!

Thailand or China would be an excellent place to watch it, as they are totally football bananas.
I plan to go off to Sri Lanka if I fail to enter Qatar - but I have a feeling that Sri Lanka is not the best spot to see football. Someone please correct me, if they know otherwise?

Why would you not watch it in Wales? I doubt many other fan bases will leave their country to watch it elsewhere, let alone to a group rival.
I’ll be in Qatar for the first two games then watching any other games at a fan zone in Wales or my local football clubhouse
