He might as well have turned up in his Speedos and sung Club Tropicana. Everything was building up so much for this World Cup that even after the US game, down to the way we finished, I believed we were going to give it everything and go home proud, I bought into it all like a mug! I'd like us to pipe down and be strictly business for a while rather than have this feel about us that we're almost a marketing tool. I posted upthread that it was embarrassing but was shot down!

OK so that's two people that didn't like it, fair enough. The vast majority of the country did and enjoyed the build up to Cymru's first appearance at the World Cup in most of our lifetimes.
The FAW's comms before and during the competition has been great as usual. The fans were great as usual. The players and staff were not but try not to slag off everything like sulky children.

I never said I didn't like it, my post was quite the opposite. I said that it made me buy into everything more but now the World Cup is over I'd prefer a period of quiet and less of the "passionate Wales" stuff, we know all that, it's been made very clear but we also need to get ourselves in order so that we qualify for Euro 2024 which starts in little over 18 months time.

It was the build up to a World Cup, its going to be much quieter compared to that don't worry

I thought the build up was great. What I didn't like was all the English match talk because we were never getting a result against them.

Apologies, I probably haven't worded things very well earlier. I could see both sides of the coin with the Sheen thing but I was with it and still am. I loved how much this World Cup originally raised the extra awareness of our pride as a nation although I wish the media would give a deeper insight into our pride rather than skimming over it, especially with recent events with the royals. The issue I had was that was all done months before the tournament but the media kept on with the "passionate fans" thing and it started to get very "Brave Scotland" after a while, I know I'm being fussy but I don't want us to become cliche. On a separate note, that version of Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau needs to stop, it's out of time and it butchers the anthem being sung.

I’m with you with your original post regarding “strictly business”. Ok, with the modern media that was too much to ask and yes indeed we all enjoyed some of it. But…. In future learn from this. Avoid building unrealistic expectations, try to avoid excessive historical sentimentality, take care with media ‘personalities’ and avoid being hijacked by political agendas eg nationalism, inclusivity etc. For some of us Mooney should spend more time on the football and less on the politics

In the end the whole media thing ( even foreign media) became pretty patronising towards us.

We all got a bit carried away with it being our first world cup in so long. We were living through a moment of history. And we've all been pretty confident that when our best team is available, we generally get results, so I don't blame anyone for the hype. 99% of us expected at least 4 points from this group. This has been a bit of a humbling experience for everyone involved so we need to get down to business professionally and quietly now to qualify for our third straight euros.

In the end the best thing about this World Cup was the build up. I had a lot of fun with all the hype and engaging with the music, theatrics and anticipation. I will have some nice memories being a part of that history
I think the England comments were a mis-step, but equally it didn't really impact what happened on the pitch it just wound up a few Saes

Some commentators were mentioning the air con was very good in the first few matches. Plus I think if Wales were still playing now they wouldn’t have scored!! We were really a complete shit show from start to finish. Yes but if this was a world cup for gratuitous choral singing and rediculous speeches by washed up actors we would win it hands down 😟 You can be disappointed about our on-pitch performance without lashing out at young people and fine actors. They played their part in ramping up a lot of excitement in Wales, its not their fault that the players and management didn't turn up. Silly post.

Obviously that is where you and I differ, I find the whole thing embarrassing.
The way it is portrayed in the media I find stereotypical (the Welsh are good singers etc) and patronising.
Obviously you have your viewpoint and I have mine, the difference being I would respect your stance and not call your posts "silly"

People in glass houses...

I am not upset, to be honest Michael Sheen puts me in mind of someone who can use his "fame" to make a point, rather like "pop stars" who haven't had a hit for years turning up on Children In Need to put themselves "back in the spotlight" I have a lot more respect for the ordinary Joe who is out on a Hawl I Fyw Adra march.
