I was hoping that this would change closer the time but now it's been published on the FIFA website it suggests that the Qatar government don't plan to change it.
Will be self isolating as much as possible from 1st November...

Very surprised at that, would have thought it would be knocked on the head by now.

One thing to cling on hope for is that Dubai has finally this week got rid of wearing facemasks, it's been 2.5 years since it has been mandatory. So they may relax the rules.
The article also says as of 31 August, which was 1 month ago, we all hope it will change before the world cup. BUT...if the rule is still in play by mid-November, I guarantee that there will be a very high amount of positive covid cases in Dubai, which will mean a lot of people missing out.
It will be impossible not to catch it with 1m visitors from 32 nations from all parts of the world, in a place the size of South Wales.

It says the tests need to be shown at check in so it all depends on the airline

We're staying in Dubai and doing the shuttles, does that mean we have to test ahead of every game?!

Traveling from Guatemala via Costa Rica, Colombia and Heathrow(1 night there). I’ve booked my lateral flow in Heathrow airport. What a nightmare

We're staying in Dubai and doing the shuttles, does that mean we have to test ahead of every game?! Yep. Shuttling in looks a complete ball ache now. With a huge increase in risk of catching it on multiple flights. If I was on a shuttle and had booked Dubai or wherever I’d be looking to change I think.

Wonder how strict they’ll be on this. That’s a bit shit. Aren’t PCRs self tests though? There are sites in the uk that will give you doctor signed tests that you can do at home. I’ll be booking a test at LHR I think. Jesus, the shuttles are going to be shitshow potentially

To be fair this was always on the cards. There will be over a million visitors from all over the globe in a relatively small area, we'll be very lucky if they don't make us test for Covid before we go.

Yes I guess , but do they definitely have to be done in a medical centre ? On another note it looks as though we even have to change our SIM cards on arrival at Doha airport in order to activate the etheraz app , ridiculous. " All visitors should download the Ehteraz app and activate this on arrival, through the use of either a local or international sim card "

A bit crap if your still working while out there.

I’m still in that 2 years, so I bought a unlocked 2nd hand one to travel. Bit of a hassle but thats how it works for me.

If you are flying out of Dubai they are effectively the same. You can’t get a £20 uk one and take photo of it, send it off, and get a travel cert back if you’re in Dubai. You have to go and get it done. And plenty will test +ve and sadly miss out.

If on contract you can also get a day of roaming for £5 usually.

This trip is turning into more and more of a pain in the arse by the day.
Hurdle after hurdle, what next?
I know Blatter and Platini have gone now so we are unlikely to get a repeat but there needs to be measures in place to ensure that this corruption doesn’t happen again.

I know Blatter and Platini have gone now so we are unlikely to get a repeat but there needs to be measures in place to ensure that this corruption doesn’t happen again. Starting to really piss me off. Getting accommodation, tickets and flights was difficult and stressful because of unprecedented requirements. Covid is an unwelcome complication. Need two apps to enter. To use your own phone is prohibitively expensive and you can't use WhatsApp or Skype whilst out there. Can't watch games on normal telly out there. People could get in trouble for trifling things. Having a drink likely to be difficult and expensive and can only drink bud in fanzone or outer ground perimeters. Doesn't seem there is much to actually do in Doha which is likely to be chocabloc. Excursions etc massively overpriced. An expensive place likely to be made worse by the Tories trashing the exchange rate. On a positive note all the nations in one city should be interesting, watching Wales in a WC game will be awesome and I'm looking forward to seeing the desert and Arabian Sea. I'll keep an open mind but keeping expectations low.

Heart breaks for the inevitable few who will miss out because of this. Everyone who's going, just maybe be mindful of your activity in the 2-3 weeks leading up to it. Go to work with a thick facemask and don't do much else if you can help it. Of course those travelling in and out from neighbouring countries, that's yet another obstacle. You can't help it if you catch it in the stadium or on the plane, etc.
Reading some Twitter and Facebook threads, there may be pressure coming from the FAs around the world around this. Whether Qatar and FIFA will give a damn who knows. Understandably with travelling in covid times there's always an element of risk but we are 3 years into it with vaccines now been in effect for 18 months. Why have they been urging hundreds of thousands of fans from around the world to spend thousands on trips when they knew there was always a real risk that these rules could be implemented...
