I reckon 23 - 25, but more importantly 13th ish in the Euro zone. A loss against Belgiums will see us close to the 2nd / 3rd pot division for the world cup draw in July. A draw will place in pot 2 almost definitely. A win will take us fairly close to pot 1 but would take a lot of results to go our way. Its difficult to predict as the performance at the world cup and last uefa get downgraded in terms of relevance before the draw.
Nevertheless an astonishing achievement to go from pot 6 in the last world cup to a probable pot 2 in the next one. The Belgium game is almost as important for this as these euro's although we need to concentrating on getting to France for the time being.

Has any team ever gone from pot 6 for one set of World cup qualifiers to pot 2 for the next set of World cup qualifiers?
I very much doubt it.

Montenegro went from pot 6 for the 2010 to pot 2 for the 2014 draw.

So it looks like the FIFA rankings site tool actually does work out the placements correctly... it certainly never used to.
22nd is brilliant!

We must have just dropped 2 after the friendlies. 22nd would be a new record for us.

116th to 22nd in less than four years. Phenomenal. Surely this is some sort of record?

Well-timed as the draw for World Cup 2018 is made based on July 2015 rankings. We're expected to be in Pot 2.

Well done to all involved. Especially Chris Coleman.
I am very proud. Just think, if you had a World Cup tomorrow with the best 32 teams (on paper) in the world then we would be there with ease.

The scary thing is if we'd won against Boznia and there were 3 good shouts towards the end, gone on to fluke a win away to Belgium albeit against the run of play, we would now be looking at a win at home to Belgium taking us as high as 4th or 5th in the world. I love the FIFA ranking but they are mad.
2nd pot for the next world cup is fantastic. The last world cup was nonsense, at one point I think Serbia, Croatia and Belgium were in the top 12 in the world.

My memories playing tricks. Serbia had long dropped in the rankings long before Belgium picked up.

A fantastic achievement.
Wales will be ranked above Denmark and Russia for the first time ever.
Wales will be ranked above USA for the first time in the last 21 years and 8 months.
Wales will be ranked above Greece for the first time in the last 21 years.
Wales will be ranked above Côte d'Ivoire for the first time in the last 10 years and 7 months.
Wales will be ranked above Bosnia-Herzegovina for the first time in the last 6 years and 3 months.

Presuming that the pots for World Cup qualification will be based purely on rankings (has this been confirmed?), the pots will look like this when the next rankings are released. As it stands, we’ll only have one game – Belgium home – between now and the draw, whilst some of the teams will play twice. You wouldn’t therefore expect too much movement between pots:
Pot A: Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, Portugal, Switzerland, Spain, France, Romania, Italy
Pot B: England, Croatia, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Wales, Greece, Austria, Denmark, Scotland
Pot C: Bosnia-Herzegovina, Ukraine, Poland, Iceland, Sweden, Northern Ireland, Hungary, Serbia, Israel
Pot D: Slovenia, Turkey, Albania, Republic of Ireland, Bulgaria, Montenegro, Norway, Armenia, Finland
Pot E: Belarus, Latvia, Estonia, Cyprus, Lithuania, Faroe Islands, FYR Macedonia, Azerbaijan, Moldova
Pot F: Liechtenstein, Kazakhstan, Luxembourg, Georgia, Malta, San Marino, Andorra
Will be split into 7 groups of 6, and 2 groups of 5.
If the FAW want to protect their position in Pot B, then they really should think twice about playing a friendly in June. Beating a team like Northern Ireland would have minimal impact on our ranking, whilst a loss or a draw would take us close to Pot C.
For a mixture of new destinations and beatable opponents, I’d go: Romania, Wales, Iceland, Armenia, Faroe Islands, Malta

That wont happen. England's ranking is depressed due to last years world cup. Get past July and it will half in relevance and England will shoot up the table.

Waiting for the July FIFA rankings will be like waiting for XMAS.
I predict that if we beat Belgium we will be in pot 1
I've not got the brain of Stephen Hawkins so this is simplistic based on the most 2 relevant factors, the forthcoming qualifier and last years world cup.
1 Germany 1687 Away to Gibralter which they will win
Germany will be above us
2. Belgium 1457 Away to us
The scenario is a win for us but that will still leave us 300 points short not allowing for their reduction for loosing to us. More crucially they got 4 very valuable wins in Brazil which will half in value.
We will be above Belgium
3. Netherlands 1301 Away to Latvia which they will win
However 5 wins and 2 draws ( plus an extra point for winning the penalty shoot out ) at the world cup will half in value and have a massive impact We will be above Holland
4. Portugal 1221 Away to Armenia which they will win
a win and a draw in the world cup will have minimal effect
Portugal will be above us
5. Switzerland 1135 Away to Lithuania which they will win
2 wins at the world cup will pull their points down and Lithuania will score low for them but they'll still be enough Switzerland will be above us
6 Spain 1132 Away to Belarus which they will win
Only 1 win in the world cup should help them but they are loosing a lot of historic points so it will be tight but they will get there
Spain to be above us
7. France 1127 no competitive fixture
3 wins and a draw at the world cup will really knock they points total. However there must be some protection to their ranking as they're unable to gain many points at present
We will be above France
8. Romania 1086 away to Northern Ireland which I thin they will win
No world cup effect a draw or win in NI sees them stay above us
Romania will be above us
9. Italy 1085 away to Croatia too tight to call
Only 1 win at the world cup will probably have slightly positive uplift for them. A win or draw will enough for them Italy will be above us
10 England 1030 away to Slovenia which they will win
Just 1 draw in the world cup will give them a huge uplift when its relevance is halved.
England will be above us
11 Croatia 977 home to Italy
1 win at the world cup so slight uplift. They will need to beat Italy to be above us and in which case Italy would be below us
we will be above Croatia
12 Czeck Rep 923 away to Iceland which I'll assume they will win
We'll get more points from beating Belgium to close the difference
we will be above the Czech rep
13, Slovakia 920 home to macedonia which they will win
We'll get more points from beating Belgium to close the difference
we will be above Slovakia
14. wales 916 On that basis we'll be 8th and even allowing for special allowances for France we will be in pot 1.
Clearly Belgium home has become the most important welsh game in my lifetime. A win and we'll be in France and give us a huge chance in the next world cup qualifiers.
