I read one article referring to him as a 'Welsh Striker'. But this could possibly be a bit of lazy journalism as he came from Airbus.

He's English as far as I know - however, he could qualify for us via the schooling rule.

This was posted on a Wolves fan forum yesterday: paddytheflea.wordpress.com/2010/08/10/who-is-jake-cassidy/"I have played with Jake for a few seasons for a couple of our local sides. He is a very very good young player! In one season for Llandudno Town u17s he scored 92 goals, many of which were spectacular! The following season I played with him at Llandudno Junction u18s where we were the youngest side in the league. He didn’t play often as he was usually playing for the first team (where he would score in almost every game) but when he did play for us he would win games on his own. At the start of this season at the age of just 17 he signed for Welsh Premier side Airbus, for whom he scored 6 goals in 7 games, including goals against Everton and Wrexham. There have been a lot of big clubs interested in Jake and I hope he does wel at Wolves. He is big and strong but is technically very good too. He can dribble, score goals from inside and outside the box with ease and is great at set pieces! He has it all. And for those who are wondering he was born and does live in Wales." It could be rubbish of course, but its the only thing I can find so far that mentions his possible nationality.

Agree with Saints19 - he undoubtedly qualifies under this new schoolboy/residency ruling from the sound of it.
I suspect Flynny will already be on the case and will be calling him up for under 19/under 21 level soon.

Put your hands together and look toward the sky and say 'please let him be Welsh and only Welsh and please let him be the real deal'.

This from Airbus site suggests he's Welsh:
WOLVES have snapped up promising Welsh striker Jake Cassidy from Airbus UK Broughton after an impressive trial with the club. The 17-year-old has put pen to paper on a two-year-contract with a further year’s option in Wolves’ favour having joined from the Welsh Premier League club for an undisclosed fee. Cassidy spent last week on trial at Wolves, featuring in the Academy’s friendly against Coventry and then scoring an excellent individual goal in the Development squad’s 4-2 win at Telford on Tuesday. Talks took place both before and after the weekend before Cassidy completed the final part of his medical last night to allow the deal to go through. Brought up in Glan Conwy in North Wales, Cassidy played football as a youngster and joined Llandudno Junction in the Welsh Alliance as a 16-year-old, scoring 28 goals in 32 games last season. That earned him the step-up to the Welsh Premier League with Airbus UK, where his seven goals in seven pre-season friendlies, including strikes against Wrexham and a young Everton XI, caused plenty of interest. As it was he was destined never to turn out in a competitive game for Airbus as Wolves made their move and snapped up the teenage front man, who initially goes into the Development Squad set-up to work under coach Steve Weaver. “We are always interested in signing good young players and Jake certainly fits into that category,” said Wolves CEO Jez Moxey. “It’s credit to Steve Weaver who has good contacts in the area and became aware of Jake’s progress and brought him in on trial. “There were plenty of other Premier League clubs interested and when he scored at Telford the interest cranked up even further. “But Jake immediately felt comfortable here at Wolves and we are delighted he has agreed to join us.” Weaver added: “I know Andy Thomas, the assistant manager at Airbus, and we got talking about the interest in Jake. “We decided we wanted to have a look at him and 24 hours later he was here playing for the Academy. “He then did well in our game at Telford, scoring a good goal and showing plenty of promise. “There were other clubs interested so it’s pleasing for us that he decided to come to Wolves. “We’ll be working closely with him as part of the Development squad and are looking forward to seeing him develop.” Airbus UK Broughton Manager Craig Harrison was delighted for Cassidy “ Jake has done really well, Myself and Thomo watched him a few times last season and he was impressive, Jake has a quiet confidence about him that will hold him in good stead as he progresses.” “I have been lucky enough to play in the Premier League and there is no better feeling that knowing that a Club see you as an outstanding prospect, I can see that Jake has the right attitude to go on and create an excellent future for himself” Whilst delighted for Cassidy Harrison had obvious mixed feelings “ Jake was a big part of the plans for this Season and will obviously need to be replaced as we need the numbers for a long and difficult season, we have already begun identifying possible replacements but we have enough in the squad quality wise until we find the right replacement” “I would like to wish Jake all the best at Wolves and I will be there to give him any advice he might need along the way” Cassidy’s arrival at Molineux is not the only Wolves connection with Airbus UK. Former Molineux defender Jamie Smith is now on the coaching staff with the Wingmakers. Commercial Director at the Airfield Stewart Roberts explained the Club`s stance over Cassidy`s move “ Airbus UK Broughton Football Club have allowed Jake to move on for an undisclosed fee, that has some add on`s that are dependent on Jake`s progress, It is not a decision that was taken lightly as everyone could see how important Jake would become this season” “Ultimately the decision was that of the Manager and the Chairman, Craig Harrison was never going to stand in the way of Jake having been at a Premier League Club himself, and once the Chairman Paul McKinlay was happy with the deal it was a case of when not if Jake would move” “We have kept Jake`s family informed every step of the way, and have been looked after by Wolverhampton Wanderers from the word go, it`s a great deal for everyone, Jake, the Club , Wolves and Welsh Football in general, as I am sure Jake Cassidy will become very well known over the coming years throughout the Principality”

Airbus manager Craig Harrison believes he will have trouble keeping hold of teenage striker Jake Cassidy.
Despite being just 17 years of age the former Llandudno Junction striker has been sensational since signing for Airbus earlier this summer, netting seven goals in six pre-season appearances.
It is not just the number of goals that has seen Football League clubs linked with him, but the quality.
Cassidy was described as scoring a “Gasgoigne type goal” by Harrison in the victory over Droylsden, while he finished superbly against an Everton XI recently and showed composure to round Wrexham goalkeeper Scott Shearer on Tuesday night.
And Harrison, who played for Middlesbrough and Crystal Palace during an injury curtailed professional career, is confident Cassidy can make a living out of the game.
“He is destined to play higher and it will be tough to keep hold of him,” said Harrison.
“There is no reason why he can’t make a living out of the game, he is at an optimum learning age and is only going to get better.
“He has come to the club and thrived, his attitude reminds me of Wayne Rooney’s, he just wants to play football and his enthusiasm for the game is brilliant.
“His physical presence is phenomenal – a 17-year-old is knocking fully grown men about.
“He scored a great goal against Droylsden, it reminded me of Gasgoigne in Euro ’96, he lifted it over the defender’s head and volleyed it in the corner with his other foot.”
And Harrison believes Cassidy has the right temperament to succeed, although he is keen not to place too much pressure on his young shoulders.
“Playing in the Cymru Alliance has done him good,” said the Airbus chief. “It is important not to put too much pressure on him and I have not completely decided whether he will play in the opening game, although he is twisting my arm!
“It is strange to think that he is only just 17 and can’t even drive yet.”
He added: “He is a grounded lad, he comes from a nice family and that makes any success he has even better.”
Airbus continue their pre-season campaign tomorrow with a home encounter against Fylde, who will come up against Chester FC in Evo-Stick Division One North.
Elsewhere, Bala Town entertain FC United of Manchester, Gap Connah’s Quay make their way to Welsh Alliance outfit Holywell Town, Cefn Druids host Aberystwyth and Flint Town face Vauxhall.
Rhos Aelwyd also continue their plans for the Huws Gray Alliance with a home match against Venture, Denbigh tackle Porthmadog, and Ruthin Town visit Chasetown

According to those reports he's Welsh then. It does seem quite exciting, he cold be a future star for us, and in a position where we really need someone. It's quite rare for players to leave the WPL for a transfer fee as players are not always contracted to WPL clubs, while managers of clubs outside the WPL see the WPL as a league with potentially good players but are rarely willing to take a financial risk without taking them on trial, etc. So it could be that he is the real deal we've been waiting for, however, I thought that about Vokes and Church not so long ago.

Aye probably
Seems a bit strange that the two biggest teams in north wales Bangor City & Wrexham did not sign him up, Bangor City signed Carl Dale from that area

I choose to see this in a positive light-the Welsh prem (and leagues below) producing players that attract prem clubs. Does this mean the WPL is working? I think so.

So long as in 40 years time the lad is not on his way to see a murderer with a cooked chicken, a dressing gown and a fishing rod then I will let him off the dentist chair celebration.

Tip your hats in the general direction of Storm for a superb comment. I'll drink to that.
