The game last night was like a knee to the goolies. It was a poor performance, and we should have done better. But I think the moment we lost was probably the moment Shawcross went through Aaron Ramsey in February.
That said, what next?
Last night I thought we're definitely out of this group.
Today, I feel we are most likely out of it.
If we beat Bulgaria I will think we are just about back it it.
If we follow beating Bulgaria with drawing in Switzerland I'll think we are definitely back in with a chance.
If that's followed by beating England, then we're game on.
This is Tosh's last campaign, even if we qualify (in which case he'll presumably manage the finals, and then retire).
So to my mind, the way forward is that we should continue with Tosh to the point that we can definitely not qualify from this campaign. This I reckon will be if we havent got 4 points at the end of the Swiss away game. That might be 1, 2, 3 or even 5 games from now. At that point, Tosh goes, and new team comes in. But Tosh stays till then. Changing management now would just be a spin of the wheel, and could hand a poison challice to a promising young manager (Speed/Giggs+Flynn?) and ruin their Welsh career prematurely when we would be better bringing them in at a time of opportunity, rather than a time of calalmity. Bring them in when group is definitely lost, and they have a chance to learn and adapt without pressure.
But for now, I'll cling to the fact we still have a chance in this group if we experience a minor miracle, a flukey goal, or an opposition sending off. I'm ready to join the final call for Tosh's head, but not quite yet.
