The man who has made almot £1,000,000 in wages since taking over as National Team Manager has finally gone but yet again, due his ego and beliefs he still wants to shape the next manager and is on hand to manage in the next two matches. Didnt he continually criticise Mark Hughes for calling quits during World Cup 2006?
In 2004 Toshack came in on the back of his constant criticism of Mark Hughes, a man who at least lead us to 1 set of play offs. At first, after the Hungry match and Austria away I really believed this man who avoided British football management after his time with Swansea City had something to offer. I would have to say that Toshack should be more fondly remembered than Bobby Gould, but Gould did manage to beat Denmark away and Belarus at home where as Toshack has failed to win any early group games that would generate the interest and fever pitch enthusiams that Mark Hughes did. There have been spells of hope in each of Toshacks 6 season's at the helm but unfortunatly he has failed to galvanise the players, the nation and any potential sponsors who would look to invest in the national side.
I do belive he genuinely cares about our fortunes but unfortunatley for him he has run out of steam and if the truth be told does not like the job of modern football manager.
I think if he is going to go then he should go now and let somebody have 7 matches to have a good run at this competition that is not over and by no means finished with.
The FAW should also have known that after the last campaign Toshack was not the man to shape matches, the two performances against Finland and the poor friendly against Sweden should have been the catlyst for change. Toshack must go now and not interfere with this campaign any longer, I have probably been his biggest critic, but I will thank him forever if he goes now and a boom period for Wales football follows.
Myself, I think it comes down to Martin O'Neil (big qualifying bonus) if we could tempt him, Brian Flynn, Gary Speed and Ryan Giggs.
I will finally say to Tosh, you can keep your Umbro gear, it's not as if it is going to fit anyone else.
