cheers by the way, does anyone know why bale gunter and evans are not with the u21 squad for this game? seems very strange and unusual given that the seniors dont have a game and the importance of it

I don't know why Bale isn't with them, Gunter is 22 now is he not? Can only assume club issues came into it but you're right it does seem odd.

im sure gunter is still 21 as he was born 21 july and bale was born 5 days earlier on the 16 th of the same year and gunter was deffinately 21 at the start of the u21 qualification campaign so still eligible
and just wonderd if anyone else had heard something i had not, as all three would be a massive boost for such a game especially bale and 'arry redknapp dosent normally have a probelm with releasing players for internaional duties
maybe toshack was too busy sorting out his own 15 minutes of fame to file the paperwork(or whatever is needed) to allow them to be registerd to the u21 for this game very strange lets just hope it dosent cost us

Bale would certainly improve our chances but he hasn't played for the u21s for a while now (Romania at home 2 years ago was the last one I think) so he hasn't been a part of this current crop getting as far as they have in this group. The players who've got us into this position deserve the chance to try and see it through. Gunter probably wouldn't make that much difference considering how well Neil Taylor and Adam Matthews are playing. Evans looks a bit short of form (possibly fitness too) so might not have got in the team ahead of the 2 Reding lads. Hal Robson-Kanu and Church looks a good combination up top to me- I think they're good mates too. I reckon the team will look something like this
..................Maxwell....... Matthews...Morris...Stephens...Taylor Mcdonald...King...Bradley....Allen ..........Church....Robson-Kanu
...which looks a decent side to me. Anyone got any idea if Balotelli will be playing for the Italians?
Also yd, you're wrong; it isn't a shame. It's a disgrace.

fair point the players who got us there should be the ones to play and for those three not to have been included will be a massive confidence boost to the u21 players. although id like to think if we made the finals in denmark that all the senoir u21 eligible players would be in the squad did bale not play in the home game against italy u21? not yet heard about ballotelli (wasnt he taken off injured for city in the europa league) but does look a very good side for us deffinatley capable of doing the job

I was at the home game against Italy and Bale did not play. Ramsey did though, he scored the volley to win it ;D Balotelli played and he was awful, he spent more time on the floor than on his feet. Darcy Blake marked him well that game to be fair, and when he went off Aaron Morris did a decent job on him too. Lets hope we get a result, although I assume the play-off dates are the same as the senior games with Bulgaria and Swiss? Flynn couldn't do both...

The Rambo goal against Italy is one of my favourite Wales goals. It's bloody brilliant

I was at Villa Park for his goal against England....that has to be my favourite. 4-2 down on aggregate then he pulls that out, then Church scored and ran head first into us all....amazing! But yeah his goal against Italy is pretty special too!!!

my mistake matty i thaught bale played my bad the ramsey goal was sensational ballotelli comes across as someone who one or two early rough tackles (which im normally not a fan of) and he would spend the rest of the match sulking and winging about it

That Macheda of Man Utd came on late if I remember and almost equalised - it shows the strength they have to leave someone like him on their bench.

On the subject of the u21s - what is the strongest 11 we could field, injuries permitting?

Post by youngdragon on Sept 7, 2010 12:36:27 GMT
fair point macheda is a tidy enough player and would probably start for most u21 teams but it speaks volumes for our squad when bale, evans and gunter are not called into the squad becuase of the form of the players already in there
baresi do u mean the strongest 11 today or the strongest 11 when everyone is fit?

I think as expected?
Wales line up: 1. Chris Maxwell (Wrexham) 2. Adam Matthews (Cardiff City), 3. Neil Taylor (Swansea City), 4. Andy King (Leicester City), 5. Neal Eardley (Blackpool), 6. Aaron Morris (Aldershot Town), 7. Joe Allen (Swansea City), 8. Mark Bradley (Rotherham United), 9. Hal Robson-Kanu (Reading), 10. Simon Church (Reading), 11. Shaun MacDonald (Swansea City) (Capt)

not all doom & gloom though, apart from the goal we are giving them the run around, could have scored three already

Italy on away goals would win the group on head to head and we would JUST MISS OUT!
