Still can't get over how stupid group 3 looks with us behind Italy despite the same points and better goal difference....

The bad news:
We missed out on goal difference to Iceland.
Iceland had a bigger goal difference than us because they won 8-0 and 6-0 against San Marino in qualifying.
Now, I know we failed to beat Luxembourg but it does seem unfair that results against the bottom teams in the group are taken into account. San Marino are probably the worst side in Europe at this level, Luxembourg are much more competitive.

I also seem to remember we went close to winning that first Italy game 3-1...

ballotelli comes across as someone who one or two early rough tackles (which im normally not a fan of) and he would spend the rest of the match sulking and winging about it I think that is pretty much what happened. That Macheda of Man Utd came on late if I remember and almost equalised - it shows the strength they have to leave someone like him on their bench. but as I recall we should have got a third in that game at Swansea - did we have a goal disallowed or have I imagined it?

Please tell me we are seeded second next time round though? I think results over the last 2 campaigns count towards seeding we've beaten France, Romania, Bosnia (3 times), Malta (2 times), Italy, Hungary (2 times) and Luxembourg in that time - so we should definitely be seeded.

I also seem to remember we went close to winning that first Italy game 3-1... storm it gets better... We were actually in the 4th best runner up position with one minute to go... Scotland and Austria were drawing 1-1 and tied in second place on 15 points 1. Belarus 17 2. Scotland 15 3. Austria 15 Then Scotland scored a last minute winner, leaving the group like this: 1. Scotland 17 2. Belarus 17 3. Austria 14 This meant we dropped down a position in the best runner-up table. [\quote]

We were also leapfrogged by Israel, who got 2 late goals in a surprisingly big 5-0 win over Montenegro.

Runners up:
1. Spain 19 +10 2. England 17 +8 3. Belarus 17 +5 4. Iceland 16 +18 5. Israel 16 +10 6. Wales 16 +9 7. Russia* 16 +8 8. Belgium 15 +3 9. Slovakia 14 +0 10. Turkey* 10 -2
Russia and Turkey were in 6 team groups, so results versus bottom place team don't count towards best runner-up calculations.
