I'd absolutely rather see him capped for the full side than play for the U21s. Interested in what you say that? A friendly cap would not lock him in with Wales. Playing in a competitve game for the u21s would arguably be a better challenge for him and makes it very clear that the youth revolution - and importance of the u21s - started by Toshack and Flynn still continues..

The U21s is a competitive game. There's no question that Huws should play in that game rather than the senior friendly

Depends on whether we have our strongest side out on the day, to give us a chance. Its all well and good having Huws in there but if Johnny Williams and Ben Davies feel it s beneath them to play for the U21 s and opt for the Iceland friendly, then what s the point.

I think he'll play a part in this qualifying campaign and will undoubtedly play a part in future campaigns. The earlier he starts playing for us the better. He should be included against Iceland. His u21 days are over.

Both Joniesta and Huws need games. They would start for the U21s and Huws would get no more than 20-30 against Iceland

I wonder how Chris Dawson is doing at Leeds United? He made an appearance for the first team in the Chaampionship last year and looks like he's going to be a very good player.
Is Harry Wilson ready to play for the U21s? George Williams?

This is coming together nicely. We have a striker than can score a few goals (Vokes) and a defensive midfielder emerging.
We just need a couple of central defenders and its game on!

Nice to see that Lloyd Isgrove has been on Southampton's bench for a lot of games recently, maybe he'll get his Premier League debut this season

Now that he's getting games, this kid is looking like the next breakthrough young Welsh player. He doesn't play a position we're desperate for (centre mid) but if he keeps playing like he is then he's going to overtake King/Crofts/Vaughan in the pecking order, and after that who knows perhaps Ledley/Collison as well. The U21s job is to prepare players for the seniors. When a player looks ready - especially a possible star - we should be integrating them into the senior squad ASAP...

It is an interesting debate whether to play an exciting young player in a Senior Friendly or a competitive u21 game. I respect and understand the argument made for playing exciting talent in the senior team. I strongly believe that both Huws and Joniesta should be playing with the u21s for the following reasons: - It is indeed part of the job of the u21s to prepare players for the seniors and for that reason playing a competitive game against England will do them more good than playing in a friendly
- Both would get 90 minutes with the u21s but not the Senior Team
- Another game as skipper to his [Huws] name
- Coleman must get the message out that u21s are as important to him as they were to Toshack
- The u21s need these two players more than the senior team does for a friendly; I want us to be competitive against England

lee-clark-plumped-power-overcome-6688506.htm (156.4 KB) Lee Clark's view of Emyr Huws from today's Birmingham Mail. See he got MOM again away at the Valley on Saturday. If FAW are serious about the England game then play Jon Williams, Ben Davies and Emyr Huws. Otherwise stop messing about and give him his first cap.

Playing him in a friendly does not meet your objective. Whilst I am concerned that Michael Owen has some influence over him, he is a Llanelli boy and a Welsh Speaker. Over the weekend, Osian Roberts confirmed that he speaks with his Dad and Grandad in Welsh. It would be off the wall if he ever went for England. I think that the risk is low and playing him in a friendly does not lower that risk any further.

I'd put my house on him never playing for England and I hate the whole idea of capping a player just to tie him down, it's a very strange outlook.

This won't be the U21 team at all but it's just a team I've put together of players under 21, quite good:)
Cornell Henley Dummett Davies John Evans Huws Joneista Lawrence Williams Wilson

Geraint Williams will have involved Huws and Joniesta in midfield combinations so having them available offers consistency of selection in terms of tactics as well as personnel, and in an important competitive game. Davies has never played for the u21s and so has never been available to Williams.

My previous response may have misunderstood your posting? But certainly I would also play Ben Davies in the u21s also. Remember the boost to Welsh Football the last time the u21s put out a strong team against England. Yes, they were not competing the same night as the senior side but the point remains.

I would prefer we went fully loaded against england u21. Huws looks ready for the seniors but ledley can play against iceland. That way more of the squad are involved over the 2 games and we would have a good crack at the english.

Huws definitely needs to be involved with the seniors before the end of the season, but there's no reason to rush him now. I'd be happy for him to continue with the U21s for the England match - but he must be introduced to the seniors prior to the next qualification campaign. Joniesta did a fantastic job having been thrown in the deep end, but generally you want to bed players in before the serious stuff begins. This is especially true of the deep-lying central midfield positions, where the responsibilities in terms of shaping team play are at their greatest.

“We talked about the importance of set plays, we talked about the importance of our quality because we were a big team,” said Clark. “We’ve got the aerial ability, so you need the delivery - the (free-kick) cross for me summed up Emyr’s performance, I thought he was outstanding.
“What a player. The two games he has had for us, outstanding.
“I understood, when I had the conversation with Patrick Vieira about the Manchester City boys (Huws and Albert Rusnak), that he rated them very, very highly - and I can see why.
“They have got such high hopes for both of them. But Emyr, in his two games, wow - different class. ---------------------
I'm yet to even see a second of the kid in action but have to admit I'm getting a wee bit excited about him now after reading that.

Lee Clark quote after last night's game:
"We had some great set-play deliveries from the best player on the pitch by a million miles, Emyr Huws, the stand-out performer and we had some terrific situations from his set-plays but we played too much tippy-tappy football at the back and not getting the ball forward and playing in Watford's half."
