Am I tripping? Scotland being hyped on here....really?!!! As some state Denmark fielded a significantly weakened team. Even the Jock pundits believe the hype i heard them before the game saying they had done the hard work ffs!! Personally think we will be fine in the semi, but worried about whoever we play in the second game due to the short turn around. This window has been the exception rather than the rule.

HI Guys. I think the real issue here is that we play 24/25 at home. On 28/29 (4 days) we could be away. Scrambling for Annual leave / flights etc.
What if its Russia. You'll need a visa ASAP whether its temp footy one or not. Chances are whoever has russia won't have many if any away fans.

One thing worth remembering is that Russia can’t draw Ukraine so from the outset (according to the presenter on TV last night) we already have more chance of drawing Ukraine than anyone else. Again Ukraine were very poor in the Euros but they have had some good results recently, beat Bosnia away in the last round of fixtures, but then Bosnia seem to be blowing hot and cold lately so it might not be as good a result as it looks on paper. Interesting to look at the Ukrainian results in the group phase. Every home game finished 1-1, but away form much better - drew in France, won in Finland and Bosnia. Wonder why they played better away from home. Poland only lost 3-2 to England over both meetings. The two to avoid for me.
Turkey are very unpredictable. North Macedonia scored at least 2 goals in every away game - including in that shock win in Germany. Austrian away form looks unimpressive (but as quetzal said, did they give up and rely on NL second chance?). Czechs we know most about.

My opinion is - - Avoid Poland in the semi - Great if we get a home potential final draw - Ideally a path to play the Russia or Sweden semi tie winners - Really important we avoid Portugal or Italy away, in a potential final. - I don't fancy playing Scotland. Too much hassle, history from '77 and '85. If we lost, it would be in our faces all next winter that they qualified. Scotland's opponents in the semis will be interesting. Result against a disinterested Denmark at aside, last 2 home results 3-2 v Israel with a 94th minute winner and 1-0 v Moldova. Not sure about North Macedonia and Austria but other 4 could give the Scots a nervy time at Hampden. They've never played Turkey apparently. On quite a few yellow cards too which could be a factor. Pat Nevin for one is as nervous as hell about that.. The same could be said about us, 3-2 last minute winner away to Belarus and 0-0 at home to Estonia!

If one of those two are Rusia then it gives us a few months to arrange (if ready to take the risk of cost expense if it's not Russia vs Wales in the path final).

It would be much better if they played the finals at neutral grounds. You'd at least have certainty over the the arrangements even if you were taking a bit of a punt on getting there.

So just to clarify, they will be deciding which winner of the semi-final hosts the final?

So just to clarify, they will be deciding which winner of the semi-final hosts the final? Yes, It will be winners of sf 1 v sf 2 etc, and then a draw to decide if winners of sf 1 or 2 will be home.,

Not to be negative but there does seem to be an inevitability that we're going to be drawn against Italy or Portugal in the finals, should we get there, probably away. It would be astonishing if those two weren't kept apart in the draw.
I'm also concerned about drawing a team in the semi-final that's going to come to Cardiff and park the bus. The last thing I want us to go through here is a penalty shootout, but again I've got a sneaky feeling it's going to happen.
It's always the same story with draws for major tournaments. We revel in being seeded so high, there's excitement and speculation over what nice groups we could potentially get, swiftly followed by despair as the harsh reality kicks in that we never get those "ideal" draws that we all want.
We better cross our fingers the home/away lottery for the final tie goes in our favour, that will likely be absolutely key.

Mei Jones, the late lamented actor who played Wali, was actually himself a great footballer in his youth.

On the subject of "who do we prefer to play at home in the play-off S/F?", surely it's got to be North Macedonia?
Were we to beat them, or whoever, in the S/F, I have a feeling in my bones that the play-off Final could be at home be against Portugal! A chance for payback re: 2016!!
I don't know if it was just a made-up story or not, but I seem to remember someone saying that Bale and Ronaldo were spotted together strolling down the high street in Whitchurch ahead of one of Real Madrid's games in Cardiff a few years back!

Yes has to be North Macedonia November FIFA rankings not out yet .. but using the current rankings: 23. Poland 26. Ukraine 31. Czech Rep 32. Austria 39. Turkey 75. North Macedonia I know the rankings are not everything but are a better gauge then they used to be …. and North Macedonia the stand out draw !

i have to be honest im quite wary of N.Mac. They qualifed for Euro 2020 and held their own. they beat Germany in these qualifiers and have come second again to possibly qualify. They may just be on the cusp of something, whereas austria are on the demise.

I think all teams that have got into the playoffs are no pushovers, however, North Macedonia are probably the best draw in terms of number of their players that are regular in the top 5 leagues. They are undoubtedly an organised squad on the rise though We should not underestimate them, but they do probably pose less danger to us than other sides. The danger men are Alioski (12 international goals, Bardhi (experienced attacking mid at Levante), Elmas (young exciting attacking mid at Napoli). They also have their keeper playing in the Spanish top flight, and their captain Ristovski who is a solid full back

Austria still have Alaba, who is a brilliant player, and helps them to control games. I thought they played us off the park in both games in the WC18 campaign. On the balance of play, I think they deserved to win both matches, god knows how we got 4pts from them. I guess they may be lacking up front?

That’s not how I remember the first game, we lead twice and really it was only Arnautovic that got them a draw, I recall he was unplayable to the point he had a personal vendetta against us, take him out of their team and they would have been half as good. The return fixture was rather like the Czech home game, we had to throw the kitchen sink at them and so they were able to create plenty of chances and in the end it was somewhat fortunate that we came out on top.
