He has cost us EVERY game in this campaign so far - so sorry one decent performance against the "mighty" Newcastle doesn't cut it for me.
I now hate him with a passion!!!!

...James Collins that is, not Danny. From Garth Crooks' team of the week: "When he's not being disciplined by his club or falling out with his team-mates, Collins is a very good defender. He is solid at the back and always a danger at set plays. You cannot do any better than keep a clean sheet and score the winner. Did you know? Won 16 aerial challenges this weekend, the most in the Premier League." How does that correlate to international football?

playing alongside richard dunne and that petrov instead of chris gunter and andrew crofts probably helps, and also up against some youngster who's never had a kick at that level rather than people like wayne rooney?

Thought that would get some ganders up!
Actually, I agree he's been a liability for us of late, but I also think he's as good as we've got so we just have to stick with him. The criticism in the England game was a little harsh as he slipped just before giving away the penalty. He also dominated the aerial balls in that game.
Kind of agree about the donkey/classy defender pairing point: isnt Williams supposed to be that kind of player? He certainly hasnt shown his best for Wales either.
What was Pele's Nicky Butt Idea, Trendy?

What was Pele's Nicky Butt Idea, Trendy? Yeah that Darren Bent is well handy in the air isnt he? He may have slipped but maybe if he hadnt been out of position in the first place he would have dealt with that England attack and there would have been no need to slip and foul the England player. He may do alright in the Premiership but he has cost us at least one goal in the last 5 matches he has played. That isnt just an occasional blip, that is a seriously undermining problem that has to be nipped in the bud, because the very real possibility is that he will do it again in our next match. Hes a squad player at best if Speed has got any balls about him. Lets be fair how, many of us predicted that he was gonna give a goal away against England? We werent wrong, thats how predictable Collins is.

I think he should be dropped for the next game. Doesn't matter how well he's playing for his club, he hasn't played well for Wales in ages and maybe he's getting a bit complacent.

Yes! You're right - bring forward the great Nyatanga!

Nyatanga's solid. That's better than a liability such as Collins currently is, for whatever reason.

Yes, not being able to prevent Barnsley putting four past Brizzle city last weekend attests to that.

regardless of who comes in to replace him it might be best for him to be dropped,he has cost us big recently,he cant be trusted at the moment and to keep picking him while he does these mistakes just because he's a premiership player is wrong,we need something that works on the pitch, not something that looks decent on paper

Yes, not being able to prevent Barnsley putting four past Brizzle city last weekend attests to that. That's a team performance. Name me one occasion where Nyatanga has individually been at fault for us as Collins has of late.

I heard that Garincha said the same thing about Carl Fletcher.

To be honest, I was speaking to a Villa supporting pal of mine and the two of us agreed that Collins plays better when Richard Dunne is with him. Why? Cos he's better than Ashley Williams who for me is a average Championship centre back who to me always looks not comfortable on the ball then hoofs it long if not is always looking for touch, ironic seeing style of football the Swans play. I wish that Speed would have kept the two Collins lads in the centre of defence like in the Ireland match, I know there's not a lot of time for the two Collins lads on here, but Danny Collins for me is better than Williams, he has Premier League experience, summat lacking a lot in the Wales set up and the two of them looked better in there than when Collins has played with Williams, where the two seem to panic, not look comfortable with each other.

I dont have a problem with a Collins/Collins centreback pairing. Makes it easier for the pundits for one thing. However, I hope and pray to all that is holy that the days of D Collins left back are gone (although as i type that I realise the next best option at LB is as yet untried still shot-in-the-dark Taylor)

For me D Collins was always a centre back. I guess he was an option at LB in the absence of anything else.
I guess there must be a reason why J Collins plays better at Villa than with Wales. But Im not sure his individual errors are the fault of Williams.
Either way I hope we see a different CB pairing against Montenegro, Ill be physically sick if Speed doesnt do something to remedy the situation and plays J Collins and Williams. Personally Id try Ricketts and D Collins. D Collins was OK against Ireland and Ricketts was pretty good v Bulgaria. I reckon that could work, and we are at the point where maverick thinking instead of play it safe has to be the way forward.

Ricketts and Collins would be interesting, but Speed will leave himself vulnerable by doing that, as neither of them are definitively centre-backs. Worth a go in a friendly though, I agree.
J Collins needs a match on the bench to reflect and Williams also makes me a bit uncomfortable at times, he was awful in the Bulgaria game (though admittedly played out of position).

Nyatanga is fit again. How come he was good enough to gain 20 odd caps for us a few seasons ago and suddenly he's not anywhere near the picture??

Toshack seemed to like him, Lewin hasn't been involved since he stepped down.

JC and AW were rivals for the captaincy so it was a good idea to select neither for that role. They don't seem to get on. JC had a nightmare 15 mins against England. First he was out-manoeuvred by Young and chopped him down when AW was in position to cover. Young might still have scored but JC's action was utterly stupid. For the second, JC reacted so late that he was yards behind Bent. If he'd caught Bent it would have been another penalty and a red card because he was going in on his heels. JC should be rested for the May matches and AW should play with alternatives - Nyatanga, Wilson(now on the bench for City) and Nsiala(on the bench for Everton, if he'll turn up, Moyes is no friend of Welsh Football). For back-up there's Morgan and perhaps Basey, who can pay LB or CB and has gradually got a grip @ Posh.

We needed players and put faith in youngsters which was fair enough and expected him to develop into an international but hasn't done so yet. He still might though.

The bottom line is our defenders are rubbish! no matter who you have as back 4/5. that's why we will be in pot 6 for the forthcoming WC draw.

Lots of positive posts about the player turn out. And yes, compared to what we've been used to it was excellent. However, the stand out no show for me was James Collins, who supposedely has an injury, but had actually just played his 2 best games of the season to help Villa to victories over Arsenal and Liverpool. Maybe he thought he was going to be dropped and couldn't stand the embarressment of watching Craig Morgan play in his position from the bench? Or maybe he is genuinely injured and I'm being overly cynical?
