I agree. The point is with Vaughan in particular we know what we're going to get, and it isn't going to get any better. King might still improve, but I doubt it. In Collison's case there are reasons which may no longer apply as to why he has failed to fully deliver on his early promise. The biggest question mark is over his fitness, but at least in playing for a more cultured team like Wigan he may well have a proper chance to show his footballing ability.

Wigan have a fixture backlog so he could be getting a lot of game time.
How they could have don't with him last night. 5 goals in the last 10 minutes of their game last night in the 3-3 draw.

And abwales, why talk about Collison in the past tense? From what I've read, he can't train in the week. That's pretty much game over as far as a top level career is concerned. Still, I guess there's always hope?

Think Paul McGrath and Ledley King. Their injuries didn't stop them having successful top-flight careers. OK Collison has much to prove, fitness and performance wise, but let's be optimistic. I don't like it when people all too readily write players off. You think lessons would have been learnt with Ramsey, but obviously not...

It would be a bit of a gamble, but I'd like to see Swansea give him a 1 year contract, and see what he can do in an environment that is better suited to his skill set. When he was coming through with the U21s he was being talked about in the same vein as Ramsey and Allen, so he clearly has talent. The big question mark is over that knee injury.

Such a shame. Always seemed a really nice lad. Was the third best in my view behind Ramsey and Bale but ahead of Allen in the U21s and was a regular in the premiership at a young age but stayed loyal to us. Then the poor guy lost his dad in tragic circumstances, he was on a motorbike on his way to watch him play, and got that serious knee injury in a short period of time. He always turned up for us but has more reason than anyone else to quit Wales in order to salvage his career given his chronic injury.
I wish the best to the lad and hope everyone tweets him a good luck message!

Pulled out of the friendly. Not going to be missed imo, has been off the pace in every game he's played in the past couple years.
Who would you replace him with? David Edwards worth a call up? Crofts? Cotterill?

Id call up and have a look at Gwion Edwards. Looked decent last week.
If not Dave Edwards had a good season so worth a call up.

Crofts? Cotterill? Definitely not going to be missed, when he does sometimes turn up, when he's not inured, he adds nothing. Doesn't seem to have a best position, has no pace and little skill level above the basic control and pass. Literally called up for 'versatility' and because he plays for West Ham, when he's not out on loan at Championship sides. Anyway, I don't like him.

Collison was probably the most exciting coup when it came to attracting the anglo-welsh and the lad has had terrible luck. I always looked forward to Ramsey, Allen and Collison playing together at senior level. Christ we, and he, have had some shit luck.

I did write last year that we probably won't see the best of him again, sad really. Some people argued that he was going to do a Ramsey, and still come good, but his injuries are extremely chronic. It would be amazing for him if he got back to a decent fitness level, but can't see it happening.

Of course you might be right in your predictions Dai, but even if you had some medical expertise, and had specific knowledge of Collison's injury and prognosis, why speculate on his future? If his injury eventually proves to be instrumental in him being unable to deliver on his early promise then so be it, but until then he deserves our unstinting support. What he needs above all else is regular game time with a footballing side, both of which were denied him under Allardyce. Then we will be able to see whether he can make a useful contribution to the Welsh cause. I'm definitely not writing him off.

That's the measure of the man - he's a class act. He has obviously been managed out of the club, but has only good things to say and respect for the club and fans. If there is one person in the whole Welsh set up I would wish luck to it would be him. I hope he can reignite his career. He would have been the third best player in the Welsh team in my opinion if he hadn't picked up such a chronic knee injury, especially given his attitude. Indeed, I remember Arsenal were reported to be looking at him at one time. Unfortunately, given the position he would seem best suited to, it is hard to see him being able to advance as a player, given the injury problems. Indeed, given the nature of the injury, I am not sure many clubs will take a risk on him and the further down the leagues he goes, the lower the standard of medical care.

He's a good player and He is great to have in our squad or certainly any championship squad if not higher. The problem is for Wales fans is we thought he was supposed to be a lot better and due to his injuries he cannot achieve this so to some he looks worse than he is. He's still a good player, playing at a high level maybe not a starting 11 for us but a good cover and can do a job from the subs bench for 30 minutes and you never know he could adapt to his injuries or they could improve with some genius doctor.

I expect Jack to go to a top end championship club and with good management of his injuty could play a vital role in our qualifiers.
He is good on the ball and chips in with goals as Cardiff fans will remember from the play offs
Sad that injuries will stop him acheiving his full potential but a very good player and a decent bloke too

What a fantastic read!
A career in the media beckons after that piece.
Good luck to Collison in finding a club.

Can't believe he's only 25, hopefully he finds a club, gets a good run of games, impresses and gets in the squad.

It's a little surprising (or is it?) that he's still without a club at this stage. You have to wonder who he's going to end up with, and what role they have in mind for him. Surely clubs would have known for months that he would be available on a free, so anyone seeing him as a key part of their project would have signed him up by now.
Hope I'm wrong.

I would imagine that clubs have probably offered him some pay as you play type deals, which (judging by the tone of that interview) he may have rejected because he doesn't seem to think there are any fitness issues. I hope he's right but it comes across as perhaps a wee bit deluded. He may have to lower his contract sights...

Shame it's not a prem team This goes back to another forum and playing abroad Surely he could play Dynamo Moscow,Malaga or Braga which i'd prefer.
