Which part of Belgrade are you all staying in? Looking at apartments and they all seem to be very reasonably priced but in various area's of the city. Any help would be great! I'm staying at City Code B&B Luxury which seems to be a short walk from the main area. Any tips for a cab from the airport? I'm reading that unlicensed cars try and rip off gullible idiots.

I've looked into it a bit and did see advice to stay away from private cabs. There is a website that you can pre-book and pay when they pick you up. I'll get you a link and pm you it after work.

I believe it's a flat fare 1800 RSD ( about £13) to the centre. So just jump in and say 1800 and you should be fine.

Me and another user arrive at 23:40 on a Saturday so we might struggle to get a taxi to the centre at that time.

There's a desk that gives you a piece of paper and it's open all hours as there are flights arriving well into the small hours.

(I've been on tripadvisor but not found a definitve answer). As I understand it, we cannot get hold of Dinars until were are in Serbia. Are there any ATMs, or 24 hour money exchange points, at the airport? If not, are we likely to be able to pay for a taxi in Euros, or by credit/debit card, or even GBP? My plan was to pay by card until I can get to an ATM in the centre of Belgrade. Is there any point getting hold of say 20 Euros in the hope that they're more likely to be accepted rather than have no cash searching around for an ATM?

Unfortunately, there's absolutely no way of getting them before you arrive - unless you know someone who is there/from there. There are at least 3 ATMs in the arrivals hall but I'm not sure if any exchange points are 24h (there are ones there but no idea about times). With regards to taxis, you cannot pay by card in any that I've ever been in, and I guess it's up to the driver if he'd like to accept Euros. If you offer €20, the driver would be mad not to take it but I've never tried (nor known anyone to try) to pay with Euros. Exchange places can be hit and miss with the pound rate. I know of 2 that always have a superior rate: inside Balkan Bet on Terazije (on the way to Hotel Moscow from the main square) and in the Rolex shop on Cvetni Trg - opposite the Jugoslav Drama Theatre on the way to Slavija Square. Saw 144 in both this week, I settled on 142 near my missus's place. There are a few dotted around that offer OK rates but never settle for anything under 140:1 unless something drastic happens to the pound before we go out there.

Glad to hear there are some ATMs in the airport, and also, that Euros are little use.

At the time of posting, 1800din is equaling £12.28 so that's a fair price for a taxi to my hotel.
How much would you recommend carrying on you on a daily basis? All I'll be doing is eating and drinking. 5000 dinar see me ok?

From what I read online and from the Irish boys there last year: You will eat like a king for 1000 din and a pint of beer is around 150 to 200 din (water is only 50 din) Some information here as well www.numbeo.com/cost-of-living/country_result.jsp?country=Serbia

5000din should be more than enough. I'd say a big session (10-12 pints) and two meals would be around 4000din. Rarely over 200d for a beer. A good meal will be around 500-800. Bear in mind that clubs are more expensive and you may want to get a taxi home, though - and some taxis will rip you off (happened once on the way back from a night out for me. Now, I only use Pink and Lux unless I'm desperate and have never had any problems since).

I'll have a quiet Friday evening (don't expect to be ready to see Belgrade until 9pm) and look around the city on the Saturday day time before going out. Do people speak English over there? The Swedes were impeccable and Seville / Malaga fair.

Just make sure you make the time to try some rakija - a fruit based domestic liqueur that comes in many flavours and will never cost you more than 180din! Yes. Almost everyone who works in hospitality speaks near perfect English and most people under 45 or so will have a decent if not great grasp on it. The older generation not so much, so at some kiosks or in some shops you might have some difficulty.

HOTEL SINGLE ROOM
If anyone needs a single room, then probably the best value in town is HOTEL SLAVIJA, just on Slavija Square, about 1 mile South of Republic Sq and about 2 miles North of the stadium. A1 AIRPORT MINIBUS (300 RSD) starts at the airport and terminates outside the front door. Extremely central for most things, although it is a little antiquated .... Prices include a very hearty buffet cooked breakfast with eggs/meats/cheese etc. SINGLE is only €14/night but a double is less of a bargain at €26 Dorm beds in Belgrade are around €8-€12, so this is indeed a decent bet if you are alone. Both www.hotels.com and www.booking.com have it online you will need to copy and paste the entire long url if you want an interactive map ...
www.google.co.uk/maps/dir/Stadion+%E2%80%9ERajko+Miti%C4%87%E2%80%9C,+Ljutice+Bogdana,+Belgrade/slavija+hotel+belgrade/Republic+Square,+Trg+republike,+Belgrade/@44.7992935,20.428579,13z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m20!4m19!1m5!1m1!1s0x475a7041959c645f:0xbe5027ea61470145!2m2!1d20.46479!2d44.7831151!1m5!1m1!1s0x475a700a3c84240d:0x4b99b55d6ae206b7!2m2!1d20.467067!2d44.802076!1m5!1m1!1s0x475a7ab2453c4ba1:0xb81037438bba0036!2m2!1d20.4601698!2d44.8159831!3e2 On the other side of the spectrum, if you fancy the grandest hotel in Belgrade, Hotel Moskva is a lovely 5 Star hotel and if you book it through the sites above its just around £70 - £85 single/double

I stayed in Holiday Inn and got them to arrange the Taxi........... coming out having someone meet you with name and staright out and into car and likely was at hotel before some people had even exited with luggage. I didn't need cash as they put it on hotel bill, did the same on way back and worked out well. They asked about taxi as well when arrived as they want to ensure company they use lives up to what contracted for, they did. Great think about hotel was the all you can eat breakfeast I can't remember how much I took out of ATM but wasn't that much. Did get on a tram that previously plied the routes in Basle in Switzerland, maps were still up and hadn't been changed. I know of quite a few groups who did a river tour, we picked one which had lots of cold beer on board on what was a scorching hot day. Think we paid €20 a head.

My hotel have already been in touch to offer a taxi pick up. I'll probably make my own way to the hotel but have one to take me to the airport as I have an early start back.

No touting on here and if the seller can be identified by the FAW then 4 of those on the waiting list might get tickets. I hope that this is not a wind up.

Got a nice little program that can map IP addresses on a site like this and then compares it against previous posts made from same IP address .................. amazing whom it can find. Will send it to the Mods so maybe you lose the genuine tickets from earlier stages.

Are Euros widely accepted in Belgrade? Same question about contactless? Apparently not for Euros. Euros not widely accepted but feels like every other building in the centre is an exchange office. As for contactless payment, I've seen it in plenty of shops but isn't always accepted or the person doesn't know what to do with it. They accept card at most restaurants and bars, though.
