Joe played the full game and around 100 minutes as he helped Rennes to a brilliant 1-0 victory over the blood money rich PSG, who started Neymar and Messi and later brought on Mbappe but none of them could break the strong Rennes defence that had the Welshman in the centre of it.

Best I've seen him play in a long time - was like watching the Rodon of old. Doing the defensive stuff brilliantly and decent, if unspectacular, on the ball. This is all I've ever wanted from him and I'm glad he's doing it against top level opposition, there's hope for him yet!

That's just what Rodon needed and against top quality too, pleased for him, so that's a decent weekend with good performances from Joe, Johnson, Tyler Roberts and Ramsey getting 70mins today as well, things are looking up 😉

Playing tonight against Marseille, he did a pre-match interview in which he sounded very positive about the way things are going at Rennes, he was inevitably asked about the WC and the retirement of Bale, I thought he spoke well and gave a good impression of himself .

Didn't get to watch the match, but he's getting a lot of praise from their fans if Twitter's translate function is anything to go by!

Who's showing the match? I didn't see who was televising it, I just looked to see if he was playing and found an interview which was done at least the day before.

Good to see him keeping his place for tonight's game, even with Rennes returning to a back 4 and the return from suspension of the guy that had replaced him. Seems to be a really competitive spot in the squad, with Rodon currently getting the nod.

A nice comfortable 3-0 home win for Joe and his team mates against Strasbourg... so, on paper, no reason for him not to continue in his defensive role in the upcoming games against Lille and Toulouse.

Not sure how much you can read into the statistical rating websites - whoscored etc. but they have Rodon playing well in each game since his return.

Really interesting reading tweets from Rennes fans (with the the help of Google Translate). They're all very complimentary about his performances since the world cup, and have been surprised by his upturn in form. The difference in how they look at football is really interesting. Before the world cup, most of the negativity was about his performances on the ball, and that's what they're now praising - talking about how he's much confident, happier carrying the ball, and passing through the lines. I never see people in the UK speaking in those terms about centre backs.

Joe at Rennes looks as though he's their main CB, plays the simple square pass but also tries more forward risky balls which don't always come off, strong in the air though and this move to Lique 1 has definitely helped his game, though at the end of the season he probably has a decision to make about his club future.

Theate is definitely their first choice CB and the only nailed on starter. Rodon has only just recently pipped two other centre backs - Wooh the 22yo Cameroonian who's done really well for them, and Omari - another 22yo who's also rated highly. They have an option to buy Rodon at the end of the season for around £20m. The feeling I get from going through the fans' comments is that very few wanted them to take up that option until these last few games, but now the fans are becoming more open to it, albeit lots of them still think it's a high price for what they're getting.

Rennes look nailed on for a place in Europe next season and they could even land a Champions League place the way they're going. If that were to be the case at the end of the season and Rodon is still keeping his place it would be utterly stupid of them not to sign him permanently. Let's hope everything continues to go well for both parties as it can only benefit us.

Rennes were back to earth with a bump yesterday as they lost 1-3 at home to Lille who are now 2 points behind them.

Watched the game until they conceded around the 60min mark. Rodon was having a very solid game and the commentators were just remarking about how well he'd been playing since the WC, and then he messed up quite badly for the first goal. He came out a fairly long way with the ball down the line, didn't have much on, tried to clip it down line but played a poor ball that was intercepted, they then broke with the defence all out of shape and put it away. No idea whether he had any culpability in the second and third. Hope this doesn't mean he loses his place again

Joe seems to be at his best when he keeps it simple, does the tough stuff defensively and let's the footballers play the football. I'm only ever semi confident with him on the ball when he's in position looking to play it, the second he moves out of position the problems seem to start, a similar story for a lot of centre backs these days, the downfall of Harry Maguire and a real problem for John Stones for years.

On the bench for the last 2 games, hopefully he’s able to get back playing soon! Not sure if it’s just rotation.

Think it's very harsh to have dropped him to bench in first place but Rennes have found two very young (18+22) and French CB's.
Plenty of games to go.

How quickly it can change in football it's incredibly volatile at times but again plenty of games left to play to change things can't see Rennes buying him unless he has a blinder. Always thought he was a bit rash and never particularly good with the ball his best performance for Rennes was against PSG when he had his back against the wall. Always thought Joe would thrive at Sean Dyches Burnley.
It's why for me though with our small pool of players it's so important to cast the net wide where opportunities arise along with not putting all our hopes onto individual players.
The likes of Rodon and Dan James for a brief period I thought that's two players going to play for Top Six sides and step up when the old guard retire. Now, it really wouldn't be beyond thinking that they both could be playing Championship footy next season if things remain the same! Things can change so quickly in football for better or worse!

Important to remember CBs usually hit their prime a bit later at around 28. Joe is currently 25, and I think if he were to get 3 full seasons of Championship football under his belt, by 28 he'd be a good Premier League defender

His club manager keeps changing the team, and seems to favour young players with Joe in and out of the side , which cost them last night in the EL.

Not on the bench today. Can't see Rennes picking up his option. Spurs' contract until 2025, so another loan beckons. Destination Championship I'd say.

Nottingham Forest or back to Swansea, trouble is the wages, Spurs will have to pay a substantial amount of them and choose a loan that puts him in the shop window. It's been a disastrous move for Joe, Swansea to Spurs, in terms of his actual career, he's gone backwards and, turning 26 in 6 months, he really has to get regular week in week out games because I honestly believe that he has enough to be a decent to very decent International defender in a Wales shirt. He's just not sharp and he's missing out on developing as a result, lots of defenders really come into their own in their late 20's and early thirties because they have gained that experience and learned when and when not to do certain things.

He's 25 and he's not started 100 club games across all competitions, it's this that's the problem, it's completely destroying his development.
