2-0 Wales. You rarely beat the same team twice playing shithouse tactics, and this Wales team will be much more of an attacking threat than last year I feel. Although I am getting more nervous the closer we get. It will be very frustrating for players and fans if we can't beat this lot for a third time in quick succession. Would be how the Belgians must feel against us

I think we will open up and let them have the backlash of the previous encounter and go for 4 - 1 to us , they are still damaged after Denmark sticking 5 past them in the play offs !

Not if he's capped next weekend I personally think Rice is gone. How would he go about rebuilding the relationship with his team mates and the supporters? He's a young man and the pressure from England will be relentless now they know they have a chance. Not as convinced and feel he is assuaging pressure from David Gold at WHU to reconsider.
Least he can say he took time over making the decision even if he already knows what it will be. Remember he is club player first and Chairman can have him left on bench.
At least he knows if decent performances then can get 60-70 in a green shirt where as with England a change of manager and its 6 and will never change.
Jack Grealish decided in Sept 2015 that he would change, still awaiting a call up to the senior squad after 3 years.......
England have played 39 games in that time, ROI have played 31 games.
Giving MO'N a clear option in 2015 of pick me for 1st team or I go would have got him some caps. Given the dearth of midfield players we have then he could be heading for 20 caps by now.
Doubt he will ever get 20 caps with England.
It wouldn't look good at all but is it too late for Grealish to do a u-turn? I'm sure I read somewhere that a decision is only final after their 25th birthday, IF they have not played a (competitive) game.

Spooky... I've predicted the same score (in my head anyway) 👍 I must remind myself NOT to get carried away before the game has even been played. Incidentally, it'll be very interesting to see which referee we get 🤔 Let’s hope for A fussy Mediterranean that takes an immediate dislike to their bully boy tactics , partial to giving free kicks a plenty 25 yards out from goal and has a man crush on our Gareth !! Yes. That was the lovely Israeli ref that had our Moldova home match. Think Gareth took the penalty in extra time, just for him ;-)

Don't know anybody who wants Grealish back..............
Personally if he came back would never applaud him in any way shape or form. He made a decision.
Difference with Declan Rice is that he has come under direct club pressure with a lot of money involved. Club talking contract and using that as a lever.
I believe we made the mistake of not getting him on the pitch sooner, even for 1 minute at end of game.

I agree he'd get more caps with Ireland. However I read somewhere (can't for the life of me remember where) that the England management feel that they have identified a gap in defensive midfield and are looking to strengthen this area of the team, where it has been speculated that Rice could fit in. Of course, he will still be jostling for position with the likes of Dier. By now, he also has Manuel Pellegrini breathing down his neck. He and Gold (along with others) have created a wave of expectation that he could play for England and comments about him "burning bridges" isn't helping - though who wouldn't appreciate the frustration (I know that we would be hugely disappointed if we were in the same position). I think Sam Allardyce has given him the best piece of advice so far. Nonetheless, he has a difficult decision ahead but I suspect (though I could be wrong) that the pendulum will swing to England (partly on the basis that he may find it too difficult to go back now). I would have zero problem with him if he chose to play for us again as he will then have openly made a decision despite the club pressure. He becomes more of a hero as he turned down money. His future with WHU would be over but who cares on that.
James McClean faced similar crap but he was always going to play for us anyway, there was never a doubt.

Long injured today for Southampton, a doubt to play against us, they really are short on fire power I wouldn't worry about their lack of firepower, we haven't got a great goalscoring record either in past couple of years. I'm quite concerned that a lot on here are playing Ireland down too much!

Just I think Long is a big miss, will never forget when he tore Cardiff apart in the play-offs.

Not aimed at you, just quite a few on this board thinks itll be a walk in the part because of Irelands 'weak' squad.

From an Irish perspective, you really should be beating us on Thursday night, but I'm not sure that you will.
Many seem to think that O'Neill has lost the dressing room, while he certainly has lost the majority of the fans.
A few insights into the disorganisation that is going on behind the scenes have recently come out.
A League of Ireland goalkeeper who was called up to train with the squad said he was unimpressed with how poorly training sessions were run, and how tactics and teams were laid out. That says plenty considering he's not even a fully fledged professional.
We're missing some of our best players - Brady, McCarthy, Long (?) and Maguire, while the recent Rice news does not appear to be promising. Personally I believe he will play for Ireland, but the current management set-up would not be inspiring to decent young players like himself, so he'll take another few weeks to decide. Ditto Liam Kelly.
I doubt that the atmosphere will be too good following the 5-1 loss against Denmark, and then the Rice news won't exactly have the lads in the best of form.
But then again, history tends to show that Irish teams do best when everything is going against them, and right now not much is going our way - so be weary.
By the time we play for the second time in the Nations League, some of the above issues should be resolved and it will pretty much be a repeat of our previous two qualifiers.
We're particularly weak in midfield and up front at the moment, but our defence is pretty solid and I wouldn't really blame them too badly for the horror show against Denmark, it was just one of those games.
It is likely that Graham Burke and or Callum Robinson will make their competitive debuts in one of the attacking positions, both appear to be bright enough prospects and will be looking to impress.
I understand that Welsh players aren't having it their own way lately either - it's been a pretty poor start to the year for Allen and Williams.
My predicted line-up with current injuries / doubts is:
----------Randolph Coleman - Duffy - Clark - Ward --Meyler - Arter --- Hendrick Robinson - Walters - McClean.
I'm predicting a 1-1 as it's Giggs first 'competitive' game in charge and he might be happy enough with the draw if the game pans out to be a tight drab affair. If Bale has a good game you might win 2/3-1.
I say 'competitive' because I'm not sure if the Nations League is going to take off as an idea.

Personally wouldn't start Williams in these games as he has hardly played
Hoping it's a 4 3 3 formation
Hennessey Gunter Davies Mepham Chester
Allen Ramsey Ampadu
Bale Lawrence Vokes
Brooks another option
I know Ampadu hasn't played much but I really believe he is going to be a top player.
This would mean we could switch to a 5 at any time

Can't be that many Irish coming this time - although the 'official' rumour is 1100 coming over ;-)

From looking at eTicketing, I'd say about 1500 left - mostly on the edges of the Ninian and around 300 on the Family Grange Stand
Hope they will be doing a final marketing push this week

I'm guessing it will probably be just under capacity for the Cardiff game? Would in and around 30k be a fair guestimation? I'd be surprised to see attendances over 40k for either of Ireland's two home games. There is a few fans amongst us that wouldn't mind us losing all four games if it meant that O'Neill walked before the proper qualifiers - while I wan't him gone, I wouldn't choose that option.

Yep, it's all going in the right direction. Time to get those billboards in Cardiff working overtime. Can't see it being a sellout but it'll still be a good atmosphere.

Assuming the Welsh play to their potential, I can't see Ireland getting anything. This feel far too reminiscient of final days of Trapattoni. The majority knows he should be gone and it's like watching a car crash in slow motion. Nations League will bring O'Neill's tenure to an end. I'd put a few quid on it.
