Massive deflection but they all count! I hope he gets a permanent move somewhere in the summer so he can settle in at a club, he's never getting in the Man Utd team so it's best he just gets a move to a side that he can grow in.

Failed loan spell at Charlton. Dan James at Shrewsbury didn’t happen and Harry Wilson at Crewe where their manager at the time said he did ok but not good enough to get in the team. Just goes to show that with kids you never really know. Even Bale had that bizarre run with Spurs, where they couldn’t win when he played. I’ve taken a few pops at Levitt before. Think I’ve finally learnt my lesson. But I did hear on Elis James Feast O F, the mighty Iwan Roberts basically calling him average. I wasn’t the only one. He looks a lot better going forward than the quarterback style play where he seemed to play to sideways. It was a nations league or friendly. Wasn’t easy on the eye. I’m glad he kicked on.

To be fair, he's been really good for us in his most recent appearances. I thought he was our best player in the friendly against Finland, and I seem to remember he was one of the few to come out with credit in the 0-0 v Albania before the Euros. It's just his first few games that he struggled to adjust, which is completely understandable. I think that, coupled with 2 failed loan spells, led to many people making their minds up too early. I personally think his main position will be a deep lying playmaker - his main asset is his ability to play through the lines like a Xabi or Alonso. He just needs to continue working on his defensive positioning and then I think he will be good enough to be a starter for us.

Agree he was great against finland, remember thinking that was one of our best passing performances of recent years and being encouraged for the future as it was what you could call a kind of reserve side,i'm typing from memory of what i thought at the time,my memory is bad though

As always I think things have to be tempered by remembering we are looking through the lens of Scottish football. I know people defend it as a good standard but as someone pointed out recently, Ryan Hedges was considered a pivotal player for one of the better teams in the Scottish league which kind of says it all. There is a pretty steep drop off in quality outside of a match against Rangers or Celtic.

Have to admit i've only watched bits of scottish football because of woodburn and levitt but what is giving me cause for hope is that i presume it can be a quite physical league at times and levitt seems to be playing games and while not setting the place on fire he is certainly making an impression, and maybe if he goes to another league where he has more time to show his skills the confidence from this loan will be invaluable,we will see i guess.

Overly simplistic take, financial clout of the English game gives it huge advantages yes,but to be honest after Liverpool and and Man City there's a big fucking drop off.The quality of other countries leagues is always different, but that's the key word not worse or "pub league" just different,as I've said before Liverpool could have saved a fortune if they'd got Virgil direct from Celtic, but even in the top echelons this bias is strong.

That’s actually a good observation in terms of how players can benefit…at the end of the day though if people had the chance to hand pick the best Welsh players to play for Hearts, the next best team in Scotland after the big two, over playing for a decent team in the championship I don’t think anybody would see it as being better for their development. Eg Brennan Johnson or Harry Wilson playing at the top end of the Scots Prem vs Fulham or Nottingham Forest? Or Sorba, or Lockyer or whoever.

There is a drop off, but saying that Chelsea took the league winners of Spain to extra time in the CL. Leicester who are at the arse end of the PL got narrowly pipped by the team 5th in Serie A the other week. Last year Man United were Europa league finalists and two prem clubs were CL finalists. By contrast Scottish clubs routinely embarrass themselves by struggling to qualify for the group stages of European competition. There is a big song and dance at the moment about Scotland’s co-efficient being such that Celtic qualify for the CL automatically, but it’s circumspect that they even need that “leg up” because of the issues they have in getting that far on their own merits because they come unstuck when playing European minnows. By that yardstick alone Scottish football’s reputation suffers. It’s obviously harder to compare the rest of the competition in the SPL to get a sense of how it compares when they don’t get to play English opposition, the club I used to follow has signed numerous Scottish league players over the years, (some who have had quite vaunted reputations like Derek Riordan) and they always end up struggling at league one/two level. I can’t think of one Scottish league signing that actually turned out to be a good buy. And then you see the likes of Mark McGhee managing Dundee, he did a stint at my old club a few years back and he was so out of his depth it was unreal. Playing a centre back on the wing! The fact he can still get a job in the SPL is, for me, another damning indictment on the amateur-ish, low budget state of the game there. There is obviously mitigation in Rangers making it to the Europa league final and Scotland making it to the WC play offs, but, as per the above, I do struggle to buy into this idea that the league outside of Rangers and Celtic is anywhere close to even Championship standard.

Mind you, we signed Allan Campbell from Motherwell and he has been without doubt our player of the season this year and the only player of ours that I would bang the drum for being in a Championship 2021/22 TOTY.

I think this is a little bit simplistic too. You can bring up examples on both sides, like welwyn has just done. Equally, there have been plenty of examples of high profile players going there from England thinking they will stroll it, and get found out pretty quickly, ranging from those entering the end of their careers - Roy Kean, Joey Barton, Ljungberg (although young enough to have an impact if the league was as poor as people say) to hot prospects such as Woodburn and Amad (Man U's 15m signing who's on loan at rangers). There are plenty of examples of players moving from the scottish prem and having a massive impact in the premier league and championship - van dijk, robertson, tierney, christie at Bournemouth are a few that come to mind the last few seasons, and that's with my extremely limited knowledge. Equally, you can't just dismiss what Rangers have done in Europe this season, beating Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund. So I think the truth is somewhere in between.

Equally, you can't just dismiss what Rangers have done in Europe this season, beating Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund. So I think the truth is somewhere in between. The 3 big name retirees you mentioned there were all shot to bits by the time they went to play in Scotland. The "hot prospects"? Well we know Woodburn made little impact during his loan spells at lower league sides previously. Will some younger players be able to make the step up to the Prem and make an impact? Possibly yes, but the same applies for players in lesser leagues/divisions almost anywhere. Despite Rangers' heroics in Europe this season there's an argument the top two SPL sides are basically championship level, with the rest of the teams being akin to League one/two sides. It has always been this way. You watch a lot of football, you can surely see the standard of domestic football North of the border is pretty questionable compared to the elite level.

Pleased for him. I was his biggest critic a few years ago, so it's great to see him doing well and being rewarded for his performances.
Wouldn't be a bad thing if he did another season with Dundee, seems to have really enjoyed himself there.
P.S. Random song choice for his goal compilation video!

Hardly a random song choice....'ooh baby do you know what that's worth, Dylan Levitt is the best on earth' as the Dundee United supporters sing.

He's going to have a big part to play next month. Not in the play-off final, but definitely in the Nations League. Will be a big stage for him potentially with his contract up in the summer.

I thought he was great against Poland. He might be a surprise starter against Ukraine. Him getting 90 mins would suggest he won't start the final. However, I would like to see him get a start in Allen's place - or alongside Allen - in one of our other NL games
