Is this old chestnut going to raise its ugly head every Olympics from now on? Someone at the English F.A. must be benefitting from resurrecting this subject from time to time. Let's hope the other associations and FAW keep to their current stance.

Is this old chestnut going to raise its ugly head every Olympics from now on? Someone at the English F.A. must be benefitting from resurrecting this subject from time to time. Let's hope the other associations and FAW keep to their current stance. If we qualify and do relatively well at the next Euros, I expect "growing pressure" to mount from the English FA for a Team GB Olympics "reunion" like there was following the last Euros. The women's team could be cited as a precedent in support of it. Someone needs to remind them that we were told that this would be a one-off back in 2012, so why is it being raised again.

Let's disband Team GB and have Welsh athletes competing for a Welsh team in all Olympic sports (you know, like a normal country). THIS Its not possible. We are not a sovereign country.

Why do the Welsh, Scottish and Northern Irish FA's oppose Team GB if there isn't any possible threat to our independence? They wouldn't have any involvement or influence in the GB set up, it just leaves them sidelined so they don't like it. Then there would be little point in us getting involved. It would just be a rebranded "Team England" in all but name with little or no involvement from the other Home nations.

The major issue here rests around qualification.
The qualification tournament for the Olympics is the Women's World Cup, which the home nations enter as FOUR SEPARATE NATIONS.
The three highest ranked European teams at the 2019 World Cup qualify for the 2020 Olympics.
So even if England qualify for France 2019 (not a given), the FA would still need England to reach the quarter final or more likely semi finals of the tournament to "qualify" for the Olympics.
It's also possible that Wales, England AND Scotland could all qualify... So in theory "Team GB" would get three bites at the Olympic cherry. With only twelve teams in total qualifying for the Olympics, how long before other nations realise this is unfair.... And try to force the home nations to enter the World Cup qualifiers as a combined team.

Clearly the best way for this to go away would be if England fail to qualify for the World Cup.

Due to win her hundredth cap today - an amazing achievement. She's only 29 too!
I must admit I don't follow women's football closely, I'm definitely a bandwagoner when it comes to the Welsh women's team, but Sophie Ingle has been brilliant every time I've seen us play.
On another note, how do women accumulate so many more caps than men? I believe Fishlock is on something stupid like 120+. Are there more international fixtures in the women's games or are they just better at keeping themselves fit?

I think because we only had the odd player who was really good in the women's game, & an even smaller selection pool than the men, it means players like Ingle & Fishlock are basically guaranteed a start from a really young age. Obviously they've stayed injury free too which helps
Side note - I'm definitely a bandwagon jumper after they nearly qualified but I'll always keep an eye out for them & really hope they can reach a world cup or a tournament for that matter

I think there's more too it then just it being easier to be selected, as there's loads of women with over 200 international caps. The record caps for a women is 354, as opposed to 184 for men.
I think international football for women is much more of a priority then club football is. The women's world cup is where a lot of money is generated.
Most of the most capped women are from the States, but there's still European women with over 200 caps.

There's a simple way of looking at it - if the English FA have suggested this, or have indicated that they want this, you can bet that it is not going to be in our best interests! Well done to Australia for beating Team GB (Sophie left out) in the Olympic QF today. Hopefully the bubble for this idea has deflated for another few years at the very least....

What’s this Team GB in the Olympic quarter final you’re talking about? I didn’t know Team GB had a team as we were assured that 2012 was a one off so I believed them as they sounded so genuine and haven’t checked since.

Stepping down as captain. Unusual decision especially in the middle of a two game window.

Stepping down as captain. Unusual decision especially in the middle of a two game window. I'd assumed they'd done it so Jess Fishlock could be Captain for her 150th appearance and looks to be the case: www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/68761591But no announcement of who the new ongoing Captain will be after that

Well this is pretty gutting For her and us. Big, big player.
But we have been developing the squad and looking to next generation recently. Let's wait and see what happens.

Agree and even though this is a big blow I am feeling pretty positive we can progress, it certainly will be a harder task now though

A massive blow for Sophie and Wales. Contibuted enormoulsy over the years - may well retire if this is going to keep her out for the best part of a year.
