Buzzing for this one. The press and media have an important role to play in bigging up the importance of this match, as I dont know if the general Welsh public understand the Nations League properly - neither do I tbh!
With a near fully fit squad, there's no reason why we can't return the favour and turn them over at home.
Key things for us is that Williams gets gametime, and hopefully last night will give him confidence that he can still play at a decent level.
Full squad obviously ideal, but important that we have at least four of either Brooks, Bale, Ramsey, Allen, Lawrence, Ampadu, C Roberts and Wilson available.
My line up with a fully fit squad would be:
Hennessey
Roberts - Chester/Mepham - Williams - Dummett
Allen - Ampadu
Brooks - Ramsey - Lawrence
Bale
Wilson just misses out to Lawrence for me. Left back is up for grabs - I'm not sure about Dummett starting as he hasn't played enough for us, but have we got any other decent options? Switch Roberts to LB and Gunter in at RB?

Wilson for Lawrence
Mepham or Chester a close call.
That being said I doubt all will be fit.
Also Smith impressed so could play as well

Also Smith impressed so could play as well I mentioned on the Smith thread that I wouldn't mind him starting over Ampadu - he was that impressive. Wilson over Lawrence? Is it fair to say that apart from the goal, did Wilson do enough to warrant a start in a fully fit squad? Obviously his crossing is terrific as well. Lawrence should have scored twice tbf.

Both poor first half. Not much to choose between them.
For me Lawrence gives the ball away a bit too much

Smith has been impressive - but we can't overlook the fact that he made a glaring unforced error that should have led to us being a goal down. In a match as tight as ever against the Irish we would have struggled to get back into the game. There have been flaws in Ampadu's game too (hardly surprising given his lack of experience) - but I would select him ahead of Smith for sure, as long as he's match fit.
I would only select Dummett if he's fit and committed to playing the away match in Albania as well. Given that it will be the last set of internationals for several months if he can't commit to doing that match then we may as well forget about him. This is the chance he's been waiting for - he has to grasp it.
I would choose Mepham ahead of Chester. Chester was OK last night - but his distribution was off at times, and his lack of height is a concern (as demonstrated for Spain's fourth). Mepham has edged ahead of him in the pecking order in my opinion.

Didn't he lose his footing as he turned and inadvertently knock the ball away?

I guess Williams cements his place being captain and leader. Against the bigger sides Mepham may edge it - so should start against Denmark. Crazy to think that a year ago we only had Williams and Chester as standout candidates for CB - now we have 4 if you count Rodon. And possibly 5 if Ampadu is an option there as well. Lockyer is also not far off too - I thought he'd be a Championship player this season tbh.

Didn't he lose his footing as he turned and inadvertently knock the ball away? Yeah it looked that way, but to be honest whoever passed him the ball should be blamed as well because he should've spotted Christie hot on his heels. I don't blame Smith directly, but more of the game plan which involved passing it about too much at the back. We ran into trouble far too many times for trying to be too clever.

I thought Chester was superb yesterday and I'm also not sure whether Mepham is as good as we all think/hope. I thought he was brilliant against Mexico and hadn't seen him / hear about him having a bad game coming into this season. However, I've read that he's made a few mistakes this season and I've watched him play where he's been bullied by CFs, so I'm starting to revise my opinion on where he's at in his development.

Really? Whereabouts? I keep tabs on the Griffin Park Grapevine forum, and he's consistently lauded on there. They're really worried he'll be gone in January, if not then, definitely next summer.

On bbc match reports and on twitter. I know he's rated really highly by brentford fans as he is with us, but I think there may be some rawness there which isn't always apparent. I have no doubt that he will be a brilliant CB, but I don't think he's developed as much as many of us think.

I agree about Mepham. He looks like a great prospect for the future but at the moment, I have few complaints about Chester (as opposed to one or two other members of the old guard). He's usually solid and he's experienced. Mepham certainly has an important role to play in the future of the squad, but not necessarily as Chester's replacement at this point in time. As things stand, I'd be happy to see Chester start against Denmark.

I'd go with Chester too - he's an experienced international, had a good game last night and has rarely let Wales down.

A number of good observations on the Chester/Mepham question. It's a tight call for sure, and I'd be content whichever way it went. Chester certainly has an excellent track record for Wales, and a good understanding with Williams, which was evident last night. But height is an issue for us, especially at set pieces. If Ampadu and Dummett play then this is less of a concern. Vokes might also come back in as Tyler Roberts seemed a bit raw last night.

Really you thought Chester was superb? I thought he was poor at times. Losing nearly every header, wayward passes, won’t blame him for the header but could have put it to bed early. Saying that I thought Davies and all the attackers were awful except Brooks. Maybe just heat of the moment stuff and I’d feel differently if I watched it again.

To be fair, it was a very physical game (especially during the second half). The guys were tired and gave everything in the pursuit of more goals and in trying to repel the Irish advance which was particularly intense during the last ten minutes. There was also some inexperience there as well which I partly attribute to the lack of second and third goals. I can't really fault any of them though. There's always room for improvement but the turnaround in the defence from the previous game was sublime.

This will be a huge game for Giggs' development. Thankfully, without the prospect of pot 3 or relegation it goes wrong.
This is the opportunity to proof that we can progress from being more ruthless against weaker sides and begin to cause problems with sides in and around our level.
