Look on the pricks taking off their medals - a lot of people would love to win a footballing medal. Shows how bad their levels of entitlement are. Poor. Not sure why they're doing that, clearly deliberate, are they seriously trying to teach people that to do excellently at a tournament, perform to the best of your ability and narrowly finish second is some kind of disgrace? You are bang on there mate. Ungracious in defeat. Arrogant arseholes.

Again shows how well we did in Rome.
Best side in the tournament well deserved. Absolutely delighted for them and their fans.

You are bang on there mate. Ungracious in defeat. Arrogant arseholes. Not just that, but if the players have been told to do that, then it's just going to make them feel worse for essentially losing a lottery having performed really well up to that point. At some point being hard on people goes too far and you've got to allow people to hold their heads up high. Look at young Saka, someone needs to have a pep talk with him and tell him not to worry about that miss because life and the person you are are far more important than success or failure in any endeavour.

England were battered, performance of Denmark and Italy puts us in a good light.

I noticed not every player did it - Henderson didn't, neither did Mings. But yeah, such a poor example.

Gianluigi Donnarumma you beautiful bastard Dreadful management from Southgate heaping the pressure on Rashford, Sancho and Saka like that The eulogising of Southgates meticulous penalty detail reminded me of Tyson’s quote: “Everybody got a plan until they get a punch in the face”. Penalties in front of a rabid, success starved home crowd ready to boil over is a massive punch in the face.

Also can I just say I’m absolutely fucking gutted for Rashford. The only likeable one out of that diving bunch. I really hope that out of all of them the press don’t go after him in the aftermath. I personally think more to Rashford's actions than meets the eye. Guy's clearly been trying to forge a career in politics after football seeking endorsements from Obama and so on. Fantastic gesture but he's a multimillionaire and will be set for life regardless. Have to add that he definitely shouldn't be scapegoated, but I don't think even the Sun would do something as sick as that these days. We're not in the same world as we were when Urs Meier was getting death threats. Felt bad for Saka though, guy was obviously devastated. But definitely relieved Italy won and we won't have to hear about this for years now. Back to work tomorrow! With respect at least he’s doing something. I don’t care what his own motivations are when we live in a world where people vote hand over fist for a character like Johnson and his self serving cronies. In fact if more people spoke up and held them to account we wouldn’t focus so much on Rashfotd. Rashford’s visibility shames the others with a platform and an ability to demand a more altruistic society.

I daresay Southgate’s meticulous strategy even extended as far as tactics when picking up their losers medals. It will be about some management manual that suggests rejection of loser’s medals means greater hunger next time round. Or some such bollocks

I love the Tyson quote I use it all the time, penalties is a shit way to lose but fantastic way to win. England's penalties were shocking, all this stuttering and slow run up, just smash it, even if the keeper gets to it got a chance of going in. Just smash it.

Oh dear, what a shame, never mind.
Best chance England will ever have to win one. Won't be this easy ever again as they won't be at home again for a long time the way their fans have behaved.

Yeah, he is doing something, I just don't feel he deserves a medal for being a multimillionaire who's given some of his wealth to charity and led some campaigns which some other millionaires signed on to. To be fair he did also campaign for the Universal Credit increase to be extended, but when you consider that Universal Credit itself is a woefully inadequate system that leaves people with some money but just not enough to pay their bills, even that's not really enough IMO. To actually tackle the problem of poverty and inequality requires action on a scale these people (millionaires and billionaires) just don't appreciate or want to take. To sum up, Rashford appears to be a decent enough person who has done more than most footballers to speak out against poverty, but IMO that isn't enough and I reject the idea he's some kind of hero and would not support him if he became a politician.

Re: the game. In the cold light of day I think the naysayers were proved right tonight. England were second best with their cautious formation and approach. It was also really apparent against a top tier team how the ref took Kane out of the game by letting play go and his inability to win free kicks really exposed England’s poor ability to hold on to the ball.
In the end, for all their talent, it actually devolved into a British style of trying to soak up pressure and looking inferior to the opposition technically. If they had been on the touch side of the draw I suspect they would have been put out earlier to be honest. They aren’t the best team in Europe, they could be if they used their more talented players and abandoned this tournament football nonsense though. I’ll be pleased if they go into 2022 with Southgate still pulling the bedsheets up to cover his neck, in a tactical sense

They're not pissing on Gelert's grave or anything. I disagree, it's almost like saying silver medals are worthless and don't represent achievement. To me that's wrong and not the kind of attitude that should be encouraged. Of course people want to win but reaching the final of a major tournament literally means you're one of the best two teams on your continent or in the world. People have to give it their best in anything they do and if that isn't good enough they try harder next time and if that doesn't work either then just accept you did the best you could and you can't change it. No shame in finishing 2nd and definitely no point in beating yourself up over it. Edit in response to insertname, I will stop derailing the thread now, promise

Such bad losers taking off their medals straight away, what a bunch of entitled deluded ****s they are. Saying that I fear for the abuse Rashford, Sancho and Saka will get from their scum fans. It will be messier than the state they’ve left London in.
The world got to see what they’re all about today, well those that didn’t know it already.

Hahaha brilliant tonight! Classic England bottling it on pens in a home tournament makes it even sweeter. Donnarumma a flippin legend, and Bonucci for nabbing that equaliser just when I was starting to lose faith
Their salty tears taste sweet tonight - they will never have a better chance or an easier run. Mae'n ddim yn dod adre bois!!
Side note, our two losses came against the winners and the semi-finalists. There's some context for everyone. Only lost to 2 of the top 4 teams there. The Swiss beating France puts that draw in context too. Overall we can be happy with how we've acquitted ourselves. Never give us this format ever again though UEFA

100% relieved as hell. Thought they were really going to do it this year, and the hysteria has been the very worst - from what I can remember.
They will never learn humility, and I predict this display will make them even more unbearable next year in the WC.
However this is probably one of the best squads they’ll ever have, and being young as well, it’s only a matter of time before they win something.

Two tournaments in a row they've had really nice easy runs to the latter stages due to things working out for them (in this tournament, the Dutch being eliminated by the Czechs meaning they got Denmark in the semis, for example - though the difference in quality between the Danes and Dutch is probably not great). This was a great chance, certainly not their only chance, perhaps their best though. When you think Belgium have probably failed to win a tournament with their golden generation and for a long time looked like Ronaldo would fail to win a tournament with Portugal, puts into perspective how hard it is to win these things.
