100% relieved as hell. Thought they were really going to do it this year, and the hysteria has been the very worst - from what I can remember. They will never learn humility, and I predict this display will make them even more unbearable next year in the WC. However this is probably one of the best squads they’ll ever have, and being young as well, it’s only a matter of time before they win something. Not sure I agree England will win something. Two tournaments in a row they've had really nice easy runs to the latter stages due to things working out for them (in this tournament, the Dutch being eliminated by the Czechs meaning they got Denmark in the semis, for example - though the difference in quality between the Danes and Dutch is probably not great). This was a great chance, certainly not their only chance, perhaps their best though. When you think Belgium have probably failed to win a tournament with their golden generation and for a long time looked like Ronaldo would fail to win a tournament with Portugal, puts into perspective how hard it is to win these things. Yeah Belgium are a good example of a great squad (no1 team in the world) who keep falling short. Just I think with England, a WC semi, now a Euro final, they're getting closer. You can only beat what's in front of you. They beat a Germany side that smashed Portugal, a Czech side that beat the dutch and a Danish team that were looking unstoppable.

To be fair I feel like the classic team who’ve been battered 1-0 for 45 minutes yet when you go in for half time you’re full of optimism because at least you’re only one down- by that I mean after tonight I’m currently thankful that in my 40 this is the closest they have got. It’s remarkable. They surely must win something soon, but for now, I’m still getting away with it…just!

Yeah but who did the Danes beat? They were pretty piss poor when a team made them have to rely on their bench to get a result. Outside their first XI there isn’t a lot there to be able to compete with the elite sides. The Danes against England was like England v Italy tonight. We went up through the gears in class on the Dane/Eng side of the draw and predictably the team from the other half of the draw was technically superior, at least, if not on the final scoreline.

To counter “it’s coming home” I don’t have a feeling of joy that Italy won it. I just feel like “we’ve got football back”. We can now move on and concentrate on mundane boring club football with no hype, no “it’s comin ooooome” no “arise Sir Gareth”. It feels brilliant. I’m gland it wasn’t England and I’m glad it wasn’t Denmark and the icing on the cake is that our record of the winning side having to beat us seems to be becoming an actual thing. Three times now.
England needed putting out. Italy did it…eventually. End of. Roll on the start of the club season.

Also our English friends are conspicuous by their absence. Funny how they celebrate winning by posting on Welsh forums but celebrate losing by staying silent. Whatever happened tonight I’ve definitely not been bumping my gums anywhere but on a Welsh football forum.

I love Chiellini, just watched his interview after seeing endless pics of him smiling and winking throughout the tournament and he comes across like a good guy who knows that really it’s all just a game and that football is as much pantomime as it is about displays of skill and scoring goals. Good luck to him.

Horrible winners as well as horrible losers. So glad they lost, I was dreading the next 50 years of them never shutting up about it. No doubt the players who missed their penalties will end up getting racially abused by their scumbag fans.

The racial abuse is far worse than I thought it would be. The players have had it all over social media plus there are reports of Italians and POC being attacked after the game.

Thank goodness for that!! A fair result overall and congrats to Yr Eidal. English jingoism back in the cage for another year or so. I think this was the most unbalanced of tournaments from the start showing a favouritism to a few, over the majority of teams taking part. Patchy refereeing overall (not what some of the pundits have alluded to however). I worry that our little bubble of success may end soon (we have two chances to qualify for Qatar of course). Unless the majority of our players are able to secure regular club football soon, we're going to suffer in the long-term, and also the slow demise of our star players is there to see. Ymlaen Cymru

The away ends at Cardiff, Swansea, Newport and Wrexham would have been a nightmare next season if they’d have won.

A few things to take from the Euros... The travelling and inconsistent travelling was shocking and can't happen again. Surely the goal should be to create a level playing field. Qualifying for the knockout stage after losing 2 and winning 1 waters down the knockout stage. The Nations League qualifying is interesting but it really brings down the quality of teams. Football isn't coming home.

It would have been every single away game for us as well. We normally just get Eng-er-land or on the odd occasion even Yorkshire but hearing it's coming home every other week would have been enough to put anyone off. Might get to sing our own version at 22 grounds this season though haha.

Football isn't coming home. There’s 3 solutions 1. Make it 16 teams again 2. Make it 32 teams 3. The unfavourable but my personal choice. We have 10 groups In qualifying so just make it top 2 qualify with no playoffs and then we have 4 groups of 5 just like the rugby World Cup. That would really make the last 8 the cream of the crop.

I noticed not every player did it - Henderson didn't, neither did Mings. But yeah, such a poor example. It's no more than saying they're not satisfied with finishing 2nd. They're not pissing on Gelert's grave or anything. I get being competitive and having a winners mentality, but footballers are the most idolised people in the world. I'd hate if one of my kids saw that and one day did the same, or felt like a complete failure for not coming first. It's pathetic, stinks of entitlement and sets a bad example. Most countries who hadn't been to a final would be proud of a medal, be it first, second, third, whatever. You don't see Olympians, who've dedicated their hole lives training/preparing, taking second place medals off like spoilt brats. Unfortunately, their behaviour is the result of the mentality behind English football - entitlement, lack of respect and zero humility. I actually feel a bit sorry for the players that they cannot take pride in what is their best footballing achievement for over 50 years.

Not in the ethos of this gareth southgate team is it?! quite a few England rugby players did the same when they lost the final to South Africa.

Ethos of this Southgate team? Off the pitch some of the players are an inspiration but others still dive and cheat as much if not more than other teams, it’s a shit tactic to buy free kicks around the box. Their petulance when collecting the medals was embarrassing.
Let’s not brush aside Southgate's WWII references after the Germany game either. Tedious and predictable.
Italy showed a lot of self belief to come back into the game after a shaky start. They also showed a lot of class when their anthem was being heavily booed. Deserved winners but they should have killed England off in the second 45, it could have gone either way after full time.

The work group chat was interesting last night, I have shown more restraint than they did after our Denmark game. One of the great things is how its all just "banter" when they rip into ourselves/Scotland/Ireland, but cry about us being "petty" when the its other way around
