What do you guys think will be the starting line-up for Wednesday's game against Luxembourg?
I hope he plays Bale & Bellamy as wingers.

No way Jose. Only in a flat back 4 or not in defence at all. And in saying that the only centre halves I'd play him alongside would be Ginge or a fit Gabbidon who's had a run of games under his belt. Otherwise it's in midfield...but frankly there are 6 or 7 midfielders higher in the pecking order |

i thought blake looked good going forward against sheffield, but he looked 'powerful' rather than fast. hmmm, still needs to do some work on his conditioning i think. still, looked very good technique wise. for me, he could be a good ball playing centreback.

I'm not so sure we've seen the end of wing backs to be honest. I mean, we've been playing that way for the last 4 years, practically.
What must be certain is that the shape we go out with against Lux this weds will be our default home shape in all the games other than perhaps Engerland.
But I dont think it will necessarily be the shape we send out away. I wouldnt be surprised if we're going out 5-3-2 away - ie the formation we've been playing all these years under Tosh - while at home we'll see the 442 diamond a la the Scotland game.
What shape did we send out against Croatia last time? I didnt see the game, but I suspect the way we played there will give us the biggest clue to our away formation for this campaign.

Looking at the team that played away to Croatia, it was 5-3-2. I think that means our away shape will be the same during this tournament. And the way we play against Lux tomorrow will presumably be our home shape.

Well, if we can't play a highly promising centre-half who was outstanding for his club at the back end of last season against a team like Luxembourg then he will never be given the chance again at international level.

Read yesterday that Luxembourg played Borussia M'gladbach last week and lost 4-2 but where 1 nil up after 8 minues and it was 2-2 after 50 minutes. Bizzare game

'starts by default' is a bit unfair. He did score over 20 goals in a team that was promoted last season. I want to see him start anyway. They were talking about him on radio 5 last night and someone said he's a bit like Hartson, but more mobile. Now, I doubt he'll have Hartson's class because he was playing in non league till his mid 20s at an age when Hartson was playing for Arsenal and West Ham, but it still sounds promising to me, because he could be like a sharper, more confident Sam Vokes. (big fan of Vokes btw, but I really think he needs a run of games to help him regain his sharpness and confidence)
I think we might well start with Morison up front, with Bellamy and Bale in support, attacking from wide areas. Sounds good to me.

What is the ****ing point? I said 30% of withdrawals and I was bang on the money! ;D At least Blake and Bale turned up and only pulled out late on. I suspect they could play but Tosh probably doesnt want to risk them for fear of jeopardising relations with their clubs. I agree though, we have never had a full strength squad under Tosh. Maybe that says more about about how the players only really all turned up when we were on a winning run under Hughes. Our injury record was pretty good when we were going for the Euros. It does make me feel that its better to turn the lights off and all go home. There is no point when we cant field a full strength team ever. |

I'd guess we're going 4-4-2. Good to see Morison start, let's see how he gets on.

Earnie has the touch of a bull in a china shop- thats why he shouldnt be playing under Tosh. Hes responsible for moves breaking down.
Morison looks very good. Had very little of the ball but provided an aerial presence (when was the last time we had an aerial presence?) forced mistakes from their defenders in the air and played a superb ball to Cotterill to tee up a shooting opportunity.

Stock and Ledley are again quite aptly demonstrating why international level is 2 above their own.
A feebly lightweight pairing. But given the paucity of options in midfield not as bad as it could be.
