Seen a few interesting threads on facebook about the above. Some good and passionate argument. My position appears to be a minority one (again) but interested in what Apostle thinks? It of course assumes that a game will go ahead. My position is that: - I am really impressed with how engaged the FAW are with supporters and a crucial assurance that there is no planned returned to the Millenium for qualifiers
- It will cost a lot more to bring the Argentinian side so the Racecourse, Liberty &, lesser extent, CCS are less attractive commercially to both recover costs and generate revenue
- If there as a forecasted level of interest not much greater than what the CCS can hold, I would host it at our home; the CCS
- My assumption is there will be a very high level of demand (and some of the reasons will frustrate regular supporters) and I would not begrudge the FAW a decent payday as it is a friendly

I think it depends on the Belgium game big time this one. If we get a draw/win and a good performance the public will think 'wow Wales are doing good' and they could probably sell tickets well above the 30k we got at the CCS with another good publicity stunt but it would need to be wider than Cardiff! It could be a toe in the water exercise playing there before a qualifying game, see what attendance we could get, especially on a Tuesday night, again with a good performance and how we do vs Israel they can then decide if playing Belgium there is worthwhile, plus the players would have already played at the Millennium. If it is to be held at the Millennium lets hope we can get over 50k at least, with Messi & Bale playing it could attract people from all over the UK, especially with cheap tickets. I just hope there is a presale to members and tournament ticket holders and that we can get a number of tickets each for friends/family members not just one per membership and that we can pick where we sit like was available for the CCS games. I want front row of block M9 or M30 . Voted other.

If there is a return to the Millenium for this game, then perhaps the FAW could designate a stand similar to the Canton? For like minded individuals to create a bit of an atmosphere.

Fucksake, cue all the bloody bandwagoners. And I don't really want to see any money being given to the greedy WRU.

I could tolerate it for one game but it's vital that we keep all of our euro qualifiers at the CCS. Would be nice if all the Canton stand boys had their own allocated area and we had the Barry Horns there

I agree that the result of the Belgium game could have a big bearing on this decision. Even if we lose, but play well, I suspect that this game will be played at the Millennium - and I think we will sell in excess of 50K as long as the tickets are reasonably priced and the game is on a weekend. Ramsey and Bale have already implied that they'd be more than happy to play there - big players relish the big venues and the big occasions.
As for competitive matches - don't we need to designate venues 6 months in advance? If that's the case we will need to decide where we're playing for the remaining home fixtures (apart from the last match before Andorra) before the next but one match (i.e. Israel away, near the end of March). I suspect that if we get a result vs Belgium the FAW will opt for the Millennium for the remaining fixtures - unless the players and management express a wish to the contrary. In any event I think we'll play Andorra at home at the Millennium.

Andorra is slap bang in the middle of the egg world cup so it might not be possible to use the Millennium. The game won't be on a weekend for sure as there aren't any available unless it is played in June a week before Belgium, apparently it will be on Tuesday 31st March.

No.
We'd struggle to get over 35,000. I'd rather ram out the CCS - let's keep this momentum going!

The problem comes when they drop out injured a week before, just like the Holland game. You'd then end up with a stadium full of people not able to name a single player bar Bale or Ramsey, or worse they don't bother showing. I don't mind us returning to the Millenium for friendlies against big opposition (Brazil/Argentina/Germany/Spain) etc. or big qualifying games.

I doubt we could afford to play at the ccs anyway. the argentina fa will be demanding a hefty sum for this match for sure...

If the FAW have stated they have definitely no intention of moving from the CCS for this campaign I don't understand why they want to play at the Millennium in a friendly? Unless that is just media talk/people coming up with it and the FAW plan to play Argentina at the CCS.

And raise the profile of the game in Wales - adding to the general buzz around the national team. If we can fill, or come close to filling, the Millennium, it will put Wales back on a similar footing to its status back in 2002/03.

I can't see how we are going to fill the Millennium on a Tuesday night. Fair enough if it was on Friday or Saturday possibly even Sunday, but midweek I can't see it being worthwhile. Remember we had a drop of 9500 for Cyprus, although it was only three days after I know that doesn't help.
Unless they are going to play this in June... everybody is expecting March but nothing has been said although March does make more sense.

I am all for going back to the Millenium and if we qualify for France I can see us going back there.
I also think the players would like the opportunity of playing there.
You also get a better view, I purchased a tournament ticket and to be honest my choice of seats wasn't the best, in line with 6 yard box. Whereas people booking late for Bosnia were on the halfway line

This is why I like polls; some interesting results. Must admit, though I am supporter of a one-off return to the Millenium (on the assumption that the demand is there), the thought of ever returning for qualifiers is something I really hope does not happen. I did not expect the numbers that support a permanent return.

I would like to go back to the Millenium as I stated above, but we can only do this if we are doing well.
There is no reason why we can't get the crowds back like they wer in Hughes' reign especially as we play better football now.
Some of my most enjoyable games have been there and it is great to be able to have a drink or a meal in town and wander over to the game.
The whole build up to games like Italy, Holland and Russia for example was just immense
I understand the point about fair weather fans but that is the same at any level of football.
My only gripe would be handing over money to the WRU.
The one think we would need to do is get a section of the ground to be a singing section

Argentina (or rather the company that organise Argentina's friendly matches) will charge a hefty fee for the match. I think if it's a choice of charging £35/£40 at Cardiff City Stadium or £15/£20 at the Millennium, then I'd go for the Millennium.
We got 66k for Aregentina in 2002 and that was with 10 days notice.
Argentina is the sort of game where we could see a lot of kids coming to watch Wales for the first time. Some of those will become regular supporters in the future. In terms of legacy, I think that's important.
But it should be a one off, keep the qualifiers at Cardiff City Stadium. The atmosphere is much better at CCS and I think it may make a difference during the campaign.

I think this friendly will come too soon for a Millennium stadium sell-out, although I do think it should be played there.
Anyone who wants us to be successful and stay at the CCS are unrealistic.

I'm all for returning as long as there are provisions for more of the hardcore to congregate In a certain area. However, with FSF Cymru having meeting with the FAW and the fact that the FAW have recognised a 'singing section' I would be confident this would happen

The playing surface at the Cardiff city and Liberty stadium are excellent. Even when the Millenium pitch was being used for football on a regular basis it was inconsistent at best and broke up at worst. I would like to beat or at least compete against Argentina or any one else and feel that will on a football pitch.

I personally would like to see it for the Argentina game if it goes ahead, and possibly for the home leg of our play-offs if that is where we end up. However, I would have concerns about the playing surface. It could be a good leveller against Argentina in a friendly if it cuts up as it has in the past, but for qualifiers we should select the venue that benefits us most, and that is the CCS most of the time.
