I thought about that before writing. Trouble with Jonny is that one injury seems to lead to another. Great footballer on his day and seems to be loved in the Welsh camp. Made of glass though

I don't think there's anything OTT about considering retirement having been injured more often than not from 16-25. If he doesn't come back from this one it should certainly be a consideration and I'm surprised the docs are not having this, albeit difficult, chat with him. I don't think we'll ever see Williams or Huws back to their best unfortunately which is obviously a massive shame.

2011– Crystal Palace 55 (0) 2014–2015 Ipswich Town (loan) 20 (2) 2015–2016 Nottingham Forest (loan) 10 (0) 2016 Milton Keynes Dons (loan) 13 (0) 2016 Ipswich Town (loan) 8 (0) 2017–2018 Sunderland (loan) 12 (1)
this is this statistics on wiki... as much as we rave on about Jonny he has never held down a team since 2011 wether injury or just not good enough

That might be the case - but it all depends on the injury. Williams has picked up a huge variety of injuries, including a leg break on U21 duty with Wales. The main injury he had last season was one to the shoulder (I can't help wonder whether that had something to do with his collision with Ashley in the Belgium game). Most of the other injuries have been muscle injuries from what I've seen. Obviously if they're recurrent there is a question as to whether there is a greater likelihood of them re-surfacing. I don't know enough about the matter. But typically retirements are the result of bad knee injuries, such as Collison's. I'm not aware of Jonny Williams having any injuries of that kind.
Obviously, as the injuries stack up, the doubts are going to grow. Not least in the minds of any prospective clubs once his contract expires at the end of the season. Perhaps Jonny Williams simply has a frail physiology, in which case the future is looking bleak. If not, perhaps a fresh start at a club that can get to the bottom of why he's getting injured so frequently, could be the basis for him resurrecting his career. He's certainly young enough to turn things round. It may be that he also needs to look at his playing style - and in particular his habit of drawing fouls all over the pitch. I noticed in Swansea's Carabao Cup game with Palace that he was fouled a couple of times in Palace's half - and Swansea aren't a dirty side. If you're getting hacked down continuously, you're putting your career in the hands (or rather feet) of your fellow professionals. Not a smart thing to do.
I'm now hopeful rather than optimistic that Jonny Williams will make it back into a Wales shirt. One thing's for sure, even with the emergence of Brooks and Wilson, we still need players with his technical ability and composure on the ball, if only to cover for the inevitable injuries and suspensions.

Great player when fit. I actually thought Coleman balls up by playing King instead of Jonny against Portugal semifinal. King was the conservative choice

Brilliant signing for Charlton, he'll boss it for them 👍. Hopefully they'll get promotion now this season :-)

Huge signing for Charlton if he can stay fit. On his day he's Premier League standard.
Hopefully he can find some fitness again and make a push for the national side.
By the way, how old does he look now? It looks like he's aged around 10 years since the last time I saw a picture of him.

Moved on a permanent to League One with Charlton. First game against Sunderland as well. He comes across so well in that Netflix doc, no wonder he's a fan favourite everywhere he goes. Really hope it works out this time. Gwaaan Jonny!

Great news for him, disappointed that the Swans haven't picked him up, Swansea need a classy creative midfielder to challenge Celina. I notice the contract is only for 6 months, so hopefully, if he stays injury-free (big if I know) Swansea will bring him on board. All Jonny needs is game time and to remain injury-free for months at a time - then his class will show.

Only 25 he seems to been around for ages. He never really had a run at a club. Is it just injury or just not good enough. We all have Welsh tinted glasses but reality he been stuck at palace. Moving down will be good for him as a player and build on from playing regular. Saw him for forest and he got but at a battering of our players

Best news I have heard for some time. Good luck Johnny.
Saw Charlton beat Portsmouth before Christmas and they played a very quick passing style of football with plenty of pace. This will test his fitness but will suit him.

Is it just injury or just not good enough. It's injury. Anyone with a set of eyes who's seen him play more than once knows it's not his ability that's holding him back.

At it's his performances for Wales that shouldn't leave any room for doubt about his quality. He's been anywhere from decent to excellent every time he's pulled on a Welsh shirt. It's easy to forget that he was seen as the next big Welsh star by the Welsh youth setup - and not that long ago.

He replaced Bale at half time and played a big part in turning around a 1 goal deficit. Anyone who doubts his ability should watch that 2nd half back.

He’s a very good player, but his progress has been hampered by numerous injuries. Let’s hope he can overcome them and get back to the level he belongs at.

Hopefully this move is the kick up the arse his career needs, I really hope he's altered his game from being a tackle magnet though.

I can think of quite a few Welsh internationals who ply their trade in the Championship who aren't capable of playing in the Premier League. And to say Jonny's day only occurs every 4 years is stretching things a bit. The one thing I do agree on is him altering his game from being a tackle magnet. Given that he was fouled within a minute of coming on against Sunderland today perhaps not...

I will supply the ketchup I disagree with him being on a downward spiral! True though, it's a fact that we have plenty of options in his position, but he offers something different to others. Thanks, it doesn't have to be Heinz

Started for Charlton today. No sign of him being fouled on the BBC text service.😀
Edit: Fouled in the 58th minute. Maybe he has changed his style of play.
