Leicester havent spent £12m on a reserve goalkeeper This means Schmeichel is on his way out and Danny is his replacement They could have got Courtois for £31m (allegedly) - so they must think highly of our Danny ;-)

Great news if he is no.1 but I’d doubt he would walk into the team straight away without competition.

Anyone know if Wrexham had a sell on clause when Ward left to join Liverpool? Could be good news all round with first team football for Ward and Wrexham benefiting financially (if they put a sell on clause on the deal) We did. Think it's around 10-20%, some saying as high as 25% which would be unreal for a team like us.

Leicester havent spent £12m on a reserve goalkeeper This means Schmeichel is on his way out and Danny is his replacement They spent 2 million on Lawrence and never played him. Seems an odd move too- Leicester's constant hiring and firing of managers suggests they see themselves as a top 8 prem side so would a side with those sort of ambitions earmark a relative rookie with one full season in the Championship as their first choice keeper especially given that 12 million could buy them an experienced top end championship keeper? I hope he gets a chance there but it wouldn't surprise me if this is wheeling and dealing on Leicester's part. Loan him out for a season or two and then see if he is worth a starting place or if they can sell for a profit.

I'd be surprised if Ward doesn't at least start the season in goal, if Schmeichel replaces Courtois at Chelsea

Watched the first half of the Blackburn match on Liverpool TV. Harry Wilson was in the crowd, but no sign of Wardy ;-) Our Ben still holding his own and doing well.

Its alot of money for a back up goalie .. schmeichel has to be moving on Not necessarily- 12 million is a decent investment if the player involved has the *potential* to be worth far more than that. Ward may be raw but he has displayed signs that he could be a top keeper in a few years and make 12 million look like a very shrewd bit of business. Look at how Chelsea are "land-banking" players for the future and then sending them out on loan. Okay 12 million is not an inconsiderable sum to pay but that still makes more sense then a club like Leicester making a guy with one season's football at a lower level their number one. That is the sort of thing a club battling relegation would need to do. The other issue is the word 'competition' because with Schmeichel being a well established keeper we all know that if he stays it won't be any form of competition at all. Ward will play the cup games or be sent on loan.

Surprised to read now that Huddersfield fans didn't rate him. Apart from his performance in the play offs he was a 'bang average Championship keeper' apparently and they are laughing at a 12 million price tag.
I recall he had a howler in the 4-0 defeat to Bristol City but I doubt you get into the Championship play offs with a keeper who isn't up to it.

From what I remember he started poorly and improved as the season went on and was one of the top keepers in the league come the end of the season

Were they not raving about him and asking Wagner to convince Klopp to get him back ready for the premier league? He had several clean sheets even before the playoffs I think.

My memory is that he didn't have to do much at all at Huddersfield because of how well organised they were as a team and I remember he did have a couple of howlers. The only occasion where he did impress, from what I remember, is his penalty saves in the two play-off rounds.

The only occasion where he did impress, from what I remember, is his penalty saves in the two play-off rounds. I dont really know much about GKs but I guess he must have played a part in them being so well organised, communication, positioning etc? I haven't actually seen him play apart from Sloavkia game I think, so I can't really comment. I thought his distribution was good. I heard good things about him at Aberdeen and Huddersfield. I'm a huge fan of Hennessey, but it can only be good if Ward pushes him for the no 1 jersey.

Totally understandable though given he didn't have much senior level experience and then was expected to start in Wales first game at a major finals in over 50 years. Can't really make any sort of judgement on him in that game.

Still, coming into the biggest match in Welsh footballing history is no easy thing for a number 2 goalie. All the players must have been nerves.

With Schmeichel still there at the end of the end of the window, you have to question how good a move this was for Ward? Schmeichel still has 5-8 years left as a top class keeper, will Ward get a chance to be no.1?
