With Schmeichel still there at the end of the end of the window, you have to question how good a move this was for Ward? Schmeichel still has 5-8 years left as a top class keeper, will Ward get a chance to be no.1? He could go out on loan to a Champ club, never know.

He should have dropped down a division and established himself. This has been a very poor transfer window for Wales IMO. Our two main keepers are not even going to play.

Poor transfer window for Wales? We've had Brooks move to a Premier League team. Woodburn and Wilson will have a full season in the championship. Lee Evans and Gwion Edwards, Declan John, Connor Roberts will be guaranteed starters in the championship. Harrison at Ipswich will get game time. Mepham has stayed with Brentford and will establish himself there. All of these lads are the future, and they have all made good moves for their development. Yes Ward may not be playing loads this season, but Schmeichel will leave eventually. Allen and Williams in the championship isn't ideal, but Giggs will be focusing on developing the next generation of players, supplemented by experienced players around them. I think it's been a positive window overall. It's never going to be perfect, but lots of the younger lads are getting their chance this season, and to me that is exciting.

Agree with most of what you say but Declan John is nowhere near starting week in, week out yet. Olsson at Swansea is one of the best left backs in the Champ, if not the best - I said the same on another thread yesterday.

His natural position.

With Schmeichel still there I agree with iot, appearances will be few and far between unless there's a transfer on the horizon for Caspar soon.

Ward getting a chance in goal tonight. At least it’s more than he was getting at Liverpool.

He should have joined a Championship club to get games under his belt. Like hell he will overtake Schmeichel in the pecking order.

Remember who called it No chance to go out on loan now either. Looking on the bright side at least he is second choice rather than third now and for him personally he is probably earning more money as a result and for some players that is all that matters. Let's hope he doesn't turn into the next Lewis Price.

He was never going to be first (or second?) choice at Liverpool
The fact Leicester paid £12million for him shows they’ve got plans for him, even if it’s not in the short term

Aarhus, 5 mins to go, game delicately poised at 1-1, super sub Sam Vokes and Kasper go for a 50/50 in the box, penalty. Keeper stretchered off, Sam brushes himself down, gives the ball to Bale.
Wales win 3-2
Danny Ward Leicester’s number one.

He's 25, he's likely to be second choice for what, the next three years at least? That will mean he will have gone through more than half his career as second choice by that point, which will certainly have kept him back. There is no way he will progress at the same rate sitting on the bench as if he were starting week in week out. Considering the way things have gone for him so far, I find it really strange that he didn't seek assurances that he would be first choice when deciding on his next move from Liverpool.

Wasting a promising career away, bench warming. Made the wrong choice in my opinion, maybe he's on better wages at Leicester and happy to be no2.

I'm guessing Leicester's plan might be that the new contract = a lot more money for him if someone comes in for Schmeichel.

More heroics from Danny in the cup. Keeping a clean sheet at the Wolves AND saving three penalties in the shoot-out ;-)

He's the clear successor to Wayne but is he ever going to be a first choice for his club? I would have rather he'd gone to a championship club than be a Carabao goalie. If they go out in the next round that's him done for the season.

Price won't go up massively if he doesn't play. If it does so will the cost of replacibg him.
Hopefully Schmeical will leave in the summer, if not he surely can't stay and waste another year

He could have played 30 mins today. Giggs got that wrong Must be a bit demoralising for the lad. To rock up every game, be professional, put in the work on the training ground and then click his togs for the full 90....I'd be getting a bit pissed myself tbh.. Everyone knows what Hennessey can or cannot do at this level and last nights game would have been a good opportunity to test him out for 45 mins against an excellent team, even if it would have been 'in at the deep end' behind a struggling defence.

However, thought he was right not to waste a sub on a keeper.

This was a bad move in my opinion. Should have gone to Huddersfield or somewhere else where he would have been first choice. What was he and his agent thinking? Schmeichel was never going to play second fiddle and there was nothing concrete about him moving on.
