we were 0-0 until 87’ thanks to Wayne, and we should have kept the score the same when we were down by a man for merely 10min. the team didnt bother to defend, instead was going for 1-0, and hence, was beaten in the last min, and then ppl blamed Wayne for the loss lol This is baffling, and your continued defending of him is bizarre. He was having a decent but not outstanding game up until his red card, but then he effectively ended our WC cup campaign with a huge error. He was not keeping us in the game, but he did play a massive part in losing it. His mistake was far more costly than Ward's v England, unfortunately. It was a massive misjudgement, and it's no wonder we collapsed in such a tight game after going down to 10 players. He made stunning saves to keep it 0-0(Ward wouldnt have saved the low shot), we were outplayed when 11v11, and the team only needed to park the bus for 10 mins to keep it scoreless. We didnt park the bus, and hence we lost. and then u r going backward and blaming him his whoscored score after a RC is still better than quite a lot of teammates, which tells the whole story

So now group phase is completed according to the Whoscored ratings Ward is officially the worst player of the World Cup!Out of 502 players....and by some distance too. Bit of a contrast to the Euros when he was actually our best player. James, Ramsey and Johnson not much better.....bottom 20. Ampadu easily enough the best at 185th All pretty accurate from what I've seen

100 minutes played, 5 goals conceded, at least 2 individual errors. That takes some beating and obviously as a keeper individual errors are far more likely to result in goals than any other player.
No doubt he’ll slot back into the Leicester first XI and start keeping clean sheets again but the way this World Cup has gone for him has gone some way to confirming what we worried about- that those clean sheets are more to do with the Leicester defence not giving Ward the chance to make an error rather than anything else. It seems like a logical point for Hennessey to retire, if he doesn’t he’s cemented his first choice status by not even playing. If he does then it’s time to look to a long term replacement. Unfortunately based on what we’ve seen this season Ward does not look like it’s him.

I think we need to get used to the idea of Ward being our no.1 going forward. I think that'll help him.

Wayne was decent for a while whilst not playing regularly. Hopefully it’s a temporary blip coming off the back of his World Cup nightmare. Ward however just had too many mistakes to his name to give me any confidence that there is a decent keeper in there somewhere. He should have been full of confidence in the World Cup yet I still can’t get over how he wasn’t even set when Rashford hit that free kick. Scandalous goal to give away. Ward was probably full of confidence after being the in form GK in the Premier League, right up until we shattered that confidence by benching him for a keeper who hadn't played a game in months. Big mistake, and Ward needs to be no.1 moving forwards. No ifs no buts

Watching Liverpool/ Leicester tonight, two freaky own goals from the Leicester CB, but Ward could have helped with the first by taking control vocally, something he could have done in a very similar situation a few minutes earlier.

He did call for the first, the numbnuts defender decided to score a world class finish.
Dunno what he did wrong for the 2nd.
I don't rate Ward at all but I don't rate witch hunts either.

Haha, er... I didn't say he made a mistake with the second, the defender signalled he didn't hear a shout from Ward for the first and sliced his intended clearance , but in a virtual similar situation a few minutes before the first goal calamity, Armatey cleared for a corner when Ward could have collected the ball, with Armatey signalling he didn't hear a call from his keeper, a valid point made imo, you call it what you want.

Yeah on hearing that clip, it's 100% the defender's fault and can't be blamed on Ward at all. It may be a sign of the defenders' lack of trust in him though - if Faes had Alison screaming 'leave it' behind him his decision may have been different - so it could be related to the wobbly moments Ward had earlier in the season, or could have been a massive brain fart from Faes. Either way, Ward can't be directly blamed for that

The thing is, when you see those two World Cup goals in the England game, Ward is beaten way too easily. If you watch those at home and you’re a Leicester defender you’re going to have no confidence in your keeper when it comes to a crucial situation in a league game against one of the best teams in the country.
I feel bad for him but Ward just isn’t up to the job of being a top level keeper. His current stay of execution seems more down to Leicester’s defence getting a grip on things. Put Ward behind the Wales defence and he’s ruthlessly exposed as an average keeper again and his return to the premier league seems to be continuing along those lines. It’s a shame for us and him no doubt but football absolutely can’t be conducted on sentiment and we need to stand by Hennessey and look for his successor amongst the young kids coming through. It’s hard to see Ward becoming a top class, reliable keeper.

Sorry, not sure how anyone can watch Ward Vs England and conclude that he is the future with a straight face. Diabolical stuff. Two goals directly attributable to the goalkeeper. It’s even worse when you calculate Ward’s goals conceded vs minutes on the pitch in the World Cup. He’s just awful, in every department, I’m sorry to say.

thats what I had been saying—- ward would be exposed without a good backline, without an in-form Faes and Justin, with Championship level Neco, Connor, Rodon and Mepham, No one agreed with me, then Wayne was excellent, keeping the team 0-0 with 2 stunning saves until that Kung Fu kick (it stopped Taremi from opening the score anyway and we only needed to defend for 10 mins more) and we would have easily kept it 0-0 if we settled for 1 point- instead the team went out for 3 points down a man and Allen’s poor clearance gifted Iran a victory, and everyone traced backward and blamed Wayne for the loss instead.
And then after Ward came in and conceded 5 goals in a bit more than 100 mins, people blamed Page for not starting Ward which hit his confidence. LMAO, isnt a professional goalkeeper supposed to be ready when he has his chance? When he kept CS thanks to Faes and Justin, his fanboys insisted that it was all down to him. When he is exposed, his fanboys blamed Faes.

Exactly, always an excuse lined up and ready for Ward. I’ve yet to hear one for that free kick in the World Cup but no doubt the conclusion is that it’s the wall’s fault, or Rashford’s fault for being too good at free kicks etc.
Truth is Ward just is not at the required level. At some point he might be, of course, but I for one won’t be putting money on it. He’ll disappear into obscurity in a few years imo

Ward will end his reign as a EPL starter at most after this season . Wayne at 29 is head and shoulder above the current Ward, let alone the fact that Wayne at 35 is still better than Ward at 29. If we need to reach the Euro24/28 (which is a low expectation actually), we need a better goalkeeper. Hope there will be a talented youngster GK coming in asap

I think there is a reason Ward has struggled to budge Kasper, least til Schmeical's levels dropped off at back end of last season, and Hennessey but criticism above is far too strong.
He had a shaky start to season but even during this period was nominated for best save of the month twice; grew into being a really good premier league keeper despite Leicester's defence being below average; was out foxed by Maguire and England's set-piece team after Foden's dive (potentially because he's on shorter side and with less of natural spring, which they targeted without us protecting it well enough); but was amongst top performers again for Leicester last night.
At their best, I could see Kasper/Hennessey save a very high percentage of shots you'd expect them to save and be capable of pulling off outstanding moment. Ward seems to save slightly fewer shots expected to save, less likely to pull of an outstanding moment but, critically, is facing far more shots than Kasper at peak or Hennessey used to. He's a good keeper but not a great one.
Even more critically, we're not blessed with obvious choices behind him. We need to work with and support him to get best out of him.

Ward was poor in the second half against England, but that minutes to goal metric is hideously skewed by the horrorshow that was the last 10 minutes against Iran. It would be ridiculous to have a go at Ward when the side in front of him were basically begging the Iranians to score with their piss poor shape and defending, nevermind Hennessey's ridiculous kung fu kick

He can be blamed for the 1st and 3rd England goals and that’s enough, frankly. I’ll never understand how a keeper of his age isn’t set when the opposition player hits the ball at a free kick, it’s absolutely, utterly criminal. Sunday league stuff at a World Cup.
The third goal was soft as anything but really the game was well gone by then anyway. That first goal ended our participation in the game and it was an utterly pathetic and preventable goal seeing as it wasn’t even in the corner and Ward’s movement as the ball was being struck prevented him getting to it as any good keeper would have done.

Don't know if it's been covered here already, but there was an interview with Rashford where he said he was going to shoot to the top left corner, then he saw Ward's position and changed his mind mid run-up to shoot top right instead.
Not sure if that shows what a howler it was by Ward though, or just proves what a top class freekick taker Rashford is..

On that occasion it didn’t need to be a top class free kick though and it wasn’t, imo, because it wasn’t even placed in the corner. Ward made it easier by still being in motion to one side of the goal which created the opportunity for Rashford to just need to hit the right side of the goal

What is it with these Ward hatters and Hennessey lovers?
How many times to people need to learn you need to look forward and not not back (and certainly not back to 2016 for sympathy / moral picks as Page indulged in).
The facts are:
1. Both keepers were sat on their backside through recent years wasting their careers until this season
2. Ward got a massive break. Unless he lets himself down - he will probably get a season to develop himself, his sharpness and improve himself. Hennessey seems happy with a gradual easing into retirement.
3. Whatever anyone thinks - time eventually goes against every player. Looking at the stats - Hennessey hits 36 next year and Ward hits 30.
4. Whatever anyone says - common sense tells us that Ward is our best hope looking forward to trying to qualify for the next 2 tournaments. If he flops at Leicester and goes back to being a bench option then sure - that possibility blows up. What I do know that an outcome where Hennessey ends up being our best option over the next 4 years while he is sat on the bench and approaching 40 means that our team will be in big trouble. Every significant European footballing nation probably has a better goalkeeping option than us right now. We should all hope Wards can improve over the next 12 months and stop having a dig at him. The past is the past - lets move on.

No way he didn't hear him, you can hear him on the tele! Yes he definitely would have heard him, on my first viewing I didn't hear Ward's shout, the defender had a mare, but there is a concern on Ward's overall capabilities despite the fact he is now an EPL regular.

Hennesey is not going to get any better, he's 36 this month and he's been a sub keeper for years and that's not going to change now. Ward has been in good form for Leicester, we need to forget the World Cup and move forward. The whole thing was a mess but we can learn from it and one of the things we desperately need to do is pick players that are playing, not bit part to no part players but that played a part in our downfall. One thing is certain though, we need some decent keepers emerging and we need it to happen soon because as much as I am willing to back Ward whenever he plays and there's a shot from outside of the box I almost expect it to lead to a goal if it's on target, he lets in a lot from distance.

Sorry but we’re in trouble if Ward is the long term Wales keeper. Rashford’s put four past him in recent months and at least 3 have been brutally poor.
I can’t figure out what he’s doing for Rashford’s second today. It looks like he’s trying to dive out of the way and Rashford just puts it where he was previously standing.
He needs to drop down a level because he doesn’t look prem level at the moment. I’m not sure how many top of the championship sides would be looking to sign him either.

Ward is too easy to score against, especially one on one. To be fair he saved a one v one against England. But that does seem to have been the exception than the norm. I mean, you can’t really expect much from a keeper against a top striker in a one v one situation but you at least expect the keeper to make himself an obstacle. With Rashford’s second goal today (and other one v ones) he seems to be doing anything but what he should be doing. Today he throws all his body weight to the side before Rashford has even shot leading to him doing this ridiculous spin to the side out of the way and the ball going straight into the middle of the goal passing through where Ward was just stood. I can’t get my head round what he’s trying to achieve there. I’d expect better from any pro keeper. I’d be questioning the Leicester GK coaching in general but then Schmeichel was of a fairly high standard when he was there so the GK coaching can’t be as bad as Ward makes it seem.

Schmeichel's performances dropped off in his last season so expect Ward was always going to be given a chance even if Kasper still had time on his contract.
Think he's been criticised too harshly this year, including in that England game, but today was bad day for him even if Rashford's in supreme form.
Local press rated his performance today as follows:
"Danny Ward: On the ball, he was very good, chipping nice passes out to Castagne and Kristiansen to start City attacks. But it’s the first game in a while where his goalkeeping comes into question again. He seemed to make his body smaller for the two Rashford goals, with the second straight at him. 5"
