Ward is too easy to score against, especially one on one. To be fair he saved a one v one against England. But that does seem to have been the exception than the norm. I mean, you can’t really expect much from a keeper against a top striker in a one v one situation but you at least expect the keeper to make himself an obstacle. With Rashford’s second goal today (and other one v ones) he seems to be doing anything but what he should be doing. Today he throws all his body weight to the side before Rashford has even shot leading to him doing this ridiculous spin to the side out of the way and the ball going straight into the middle of the goal passing through where Ward was just stood. I can’t get my head round what he’s trying to achieve there. I’d expect better from any pro keeper. I’d be questioning the Leicester GK coaching in general but then Schmeichel was of a fairly high standard when he was there so the GK coaching can’t be as bad as Ward makes it seem. Agree totally, I realise GK coaching methods must have changed in recent times with extra responsibility on them being the starting point of possession and, noticeably they don't or are not allowed to dictate their six yard box as they did before , but it's the actual positioning and reactive thinking to situations that annoys me about GK's these days. Keeping it to Ward though, I honestly think he goes into one on one's with no real conviction or belief he can make a save , just throwing out a leg is not good enough, he has to have more self belief and make himself bigger by spreading his arms and time his approach to the attacker to lessen their options to give him a chance of blocking the shot, but right now he may as well stand aside and wave the attacker through. I see he doesn't command his defenders enough and dictate situations as well as he should which is part of a keeper's make up, like he is in control, something that also needs addressing if he is to remain an option at a high level club.

Look he's not a top keeper at Premier League level, but whilst he's playing week in week out at that level he starts for us 1000%
GK is often quite a boring discussion unfortunately. I remember when people were discussing on here about Wayne being our number 1 a few years back when he became no.2 at Palace
Quite rightly people wanted us to find a playing keeper who could do the job. But in reality there was no-one. We will always have the desire to have a regular top flight keeper playing for us, but at that time we didn't have one, therefore no one could have taken the no.1 jersey from Wayne
For that reason Ward will be guaranteed no.1 until either he gets moved on by Leicester, or someone else becomes a Premier League starter

The bit about commanding defenders is a particularly interesting point because it reminds me of an incident the other week that was being discussed on 5 live, where the ball ran behind the Leicester defence, Ward comes out and a Leicester player (Tielemans?) actually takes it off him and rounds Ward so that Tielemans is now the furthest player back and heading towards the goal. He then goes to clear it and mis-kicks and falls over!
If you’re rounding your own keeper instead of leaving it to him what does that say about the confidence of the team in their goalkeeper?

Look he's not a top keeper at Premier League level, but whilst he's playing week in week out at that level he starts for us 1000% I’m not disputing that- I’m saying that we’re in trouble the longer he is number one because he seems to regress further every week. It’s going to get to the point where his reputation becomes so damaged from this season he won’t even be considered by a top half championship club and he’ll have a job on his hands avoiding being a lower league keeper for at least a few seasons while he tries to prove his worth again. In fairness you’ve defended him staunchly in recent times but it seems even you now admit he’s not top quality and the only argument he has in his defence is that he is playing regularly which kind of says it all. He starts for Wales only because Hennessey is not playing and has gone off the boil and because Davies is a reserve, not because he is a top keeper who has earned his place on the merits of his ability

I've defended that I think we should have been starting him since before the World Cup. I used the fact that he was performing particularly well at the time in the context of the Premier League, but I've not said that he's a top keeper at any point. I also don't think he's playing as badly as some people are making out, but he's certainly not going to be a top half Premier League keeper (unless something drastic happens)

Top half?! Blimey, a more realistic aim would be to start looking like a bottom three keeper first!
He seemed to perform well enough to get Huddersfield promoted so there is obviously something there…but the question I guess is whether years of sitting on the bench have taken it’s toll as well as poor coaching potentially too- when you see his positioning you wonder what he gets taught in training every day.

His xGc was -4 prior to Leicester signing Faes, which was one of the worst in the league at the time. So at least he’s consistent!

Think that's a fair assessment. He's a lower half Premier League GK at the moment, it's his first season in the top flight and it is possible he will improve after this season "Ward’s fortunes have mirrored Leicester’s. He had a wretched start to the season but he was largely unprotected, especially at set-pieces. Since the Foxes got their act together, Ward has looked more assured, though he still needs to convince many that he should be No.1 long-term"

Its clear what will happen to Ward from now on in.
Leicester will go out and buy a new keeper. Brendan will say "The no. 1 shirt is still up for grabs!", giving Danny some hope and he decides to stay. New keeper starts the new season and looks relatively solid helped by a much better defence and Danny sits on the bench all season again and for the rest of his Leicester career.
I would happily take a starting Championship goalkeeper starting every game for us over and above Ward and Hennessey now.

If Ward doesn’t start next season as number one (and I’ll be surprised if he does) then the writing would be on the wall no matter what Rodgers says. The big question is then will Ward be happy to be number 2 again (which he’s been happy to previously), hell he may even not be number 2 as by all accounts Iversen was a top player for PNE and may leap frog Ward into the number 1/2 slot due to Ward’s unconvincing term this year as first choice. I sort of agree with you. If we had a talented keeper in the championship who was performing well I’d be looking to fast track them to be number 1 pretty quickly, but we don’t, so Ward is number 1 for Wales pretty much by default. The scary thing is that there aren’t even any promising contenders coming up on the rails to challenge Ward, Hennessey and Davies. The outside shot is that 26 year old at Plymouth but he’s got a lot of work to do to firstly establish himself as number one, second get Plymouth promoted, third, decide whether he is even Welsh! Goalkeeper, long term, looks as problematic to me as the issues in midfield.

Managers don’t get it right all the time and some will stubbornly stand by their choices.

Maybe, but if a Ward was as bad as people were making him out to be and Iversen is as good as Leicester fans made him out to be then Rodgers would have made the change. They didn't keep a clean sheet for the first 7 games, they conceded 22 goals in that time and had lost 5-2 and 6-2 consecutively, if Iversen was a genuine upgrade he's getting picked for the next game, stubbornness be damned Iversen did well at Preston, but Ward was a top keeper at Huddersfield and did well at Aberdeen, he's played (and performed well in) international tournaments. He's a talented keeper who messed up his career by benchwarming for too long

I know technically his debut season was for Huddersfield, but it was so long ago I don't think that experience necessarily counts for as much now. I expect Ward to want to be a regular no matter where he is now, and I think he'll be at his best at 32/33

Yes he's making mistakes but name a Premier League keeper who hasn't this season or last? Hugo Lloris is the king of mistakes, De Gea makes some absolutely ridiculous ones, Pickford, Pope, Martinez etc. it's just part of the game, Ward needs to tighten up, no question but I agree with Allezlesrouges, he'll improve and peak in a few years. In the meantime we need to seriously get on it with the development of young Welsh keepers.

To be beaten at your near post so easy is criminal for a keeper. He really does look extremely shaky between the sticks.

Nothing new, always capable of errors at any time, and doesn't instill confidence. Having said that was very good during Euro 2020 which was a surprise.

There’s a very high possibility Danny Ward will be a championship goalie next season, even without changing clubs. I think a season at the top end of a table, albeit the one below where he currently is, would do him the world of good. Not that it is guaranteed Leicester would do well in the championship but it is likely they would.

Looks like Ward's time is up. Needs to move clubs now. Rodgers citing Ward's lack of game time over the past 4 years compared to Iversen - he obviously needs first team football now. Probs needs to drop to Championship

It's over, if he's serious about playing at the best level he can be for his country and play in major international tournaments, if he's serious about having a club career, he needs to be looking to leave this summer. There's no point staying to try and fight for your place, when this kind of thing happens it's over, he's not coming back from this at Leicester.
My god do we need to get this goalkeeper situation sorted out, Wayne is done, Danny is really struggling and I don't trust any of the others and that includes Davies and Maxwell.

My son is pretty up on things football related and reliably informs me that Iversen is pretty shit too and is certainly not clearly better than Ward. So Leicester are welcome to him and its good as it leave open another team I would prefer to get relegated which does not involve our players.
Iverson is young at 25 and has done fa so far in his career. Not saying Ward has played well and he did not grasp his opportunity but Rodgers has totally humiliated Ward and hopefully karma can play a role where Leicester get relegated and Ward can find a new club, believe in himself and prove everyone wrong
Yes I am bias but prefer that to continually sniping at one of our own who we actually desperately need to perform OK for us.
