People seem to forget that Ash was a Swansea player for about a decade and he probably had loads of abuse off Cardiff fans over the years, ffs he would even get booed by a certain section of Wales fans because his affiliation with the club. You can't just switch it off. It was just a private joke between him and Allen, another ex Swan that was unintentionally caught on camera. Cardiff fans have probably said the worst shit imaginable to him so don't be surprised if he has an opinion and still feels a bit bitter over it. Anyway he said nothing against any Wales fans. So Cardiff fans are not Welsh fans??? just imagine the outcry in the English media if Rooney had done that to Liverpool fans

Some precious people following Cardiff and Wales.
So many saying he shouldnt play again.
Many saying he's English and should never have played.
Ash has been a great servant to Welsh football and I hope this is never forgotten
Problem is this will just heighten club rivalries which have started to 're appear

Left this late I admit so apologies but have watched Denmark game through now a couple of times. To my mind the second (and decisive) Danish goal appears to be down to two or three minutes of stupidity. Starting with the appalling tackle on Ampadu, Wales then went into a different game led by Ashley Williams. Instead of focusing on the job, they went into a Sunday league style ‘let them ave one back’ mentality. Indeed Williams has said as much since... that Ampadu (his own booking) was “what had to be done”. At the highest level this is a nonsense and a weakness. By switching from ‘defend with organisation’ to ‘revenge tactics’ gave Ericsson and his colleagues exactly what they wanted. A distracted defence who had lost sight of the initial crucial imperative, and so gave away space and time. Ericsson is seen in the move that led to the second goal signalling to his front men to drop a few yards off the challenges as he knew what was coming and they then smartly created a very well worked goal around lunging thoughtless Welsh challenges.
To my my mind this is where a captain stands out. Williams led the mindless fray from Wales when he should have bought time, emphasised that cool heads were crucial and been the example. He let the team down when his role demanded smarts.
We we gave the second goal away and really didn’t need to. It was Sunday league poor from Wales and poor leadership of young guys from Williams.

What ever you alliance is.. ash was silly saying it on Wales duty. As captain of Wales he has duty to unite the team and nation.
Also would say how fickle fans are... they abuse players, scream obscenities and then they retaliate they are offended / upset and demand apologies etc. If your give it then take it...

If you’re upset about this you really are pathetic. Time to grow up and relax. It was a comment made in jest. No harm done. He’s had worse over the years.

I think the pathetic one was bellend Ash.Ive travelled all over the World following Wales and his comments were quite naive and not the kind of comments the captain of our Country should be saying. if this was the England captain he would be stripped of the captaincy at very least.

The comments were ill-advised.
The reaction from Cardiff fans is also shocking over-egged and ill-advised.
A point that hasn't been made is why have the FAW stopped putting 'Wales' overlays over Cardiff stuff around the stadium? I've noticed it in both games in this campaign outside the stadium. I don't know whether they bothered to do it inside the stadium before but if they did and have also stopped that then that has contributed to this as well.

Just in case it offends the captain of wales because of affiliations with a rival club? Surely he should be beyond all that shit given that he’s captain of the nation... there’s bound to be photos etc on some walls of Cardiff city related stuff.. it’s the CCFC stadium ffs.... no this was a stupid thing to say given the sometimes volatile relations between wales top four clubs. This can’t be palmed off on Cardiff fans again

It's pretty obvious that it wasn't a smart thing for Williams to say, but it's sad to see Cardiff fans being so precious about an example of crass cultural misappropriation morphing into a core sense of a club's identity.
At least it's not as bad as the ultimate example of cultural misappropriation which is Swing Low - an American spiritual transformed into a rugby club song with wanking gestures thrown in...

Surely the concept of football clubs are cultural misappropriation? Blowing bubbles, baggies boing, never walk alone, glad all over, falling in love with you... ffs none of it is truly representative is it.. neither is most clubs nic names, nor the colours they play in.... but when a rival player from a rival club has a dig at your club ( no matter how trivial it seems to fans of other clubs) and particularly when he assumes the mantle of the captain of the nation, playing at that clubs home stadium ..... come on mun .... what do you reckon?!

Should he have said it....probably not, no. If it wasn’t caught on camera it would be a non-story. Massive overreaction though, he has said it was just a bit of banter. Also in the video Joe Allen and James Chester were both laughing their heads off at his comment, yet no reaction towards them? Let it go and appreciate everything he has done for Wales over the years.

Was it a dig at Cardiff - or just a trivial quip about how ludicrous the Ayotallah looks? The Swim Away is pretty puerile and embarrassing as well - and if Aaron Ramsey had made a passing negative comment about it, I'd like to think I wouldn't feel deeply offended by it - given that I'd probably be in agreement. When this sort of stuff comes up I immediately think of this scene from the Life of Brian: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ka9mfZbTFbk

Two different things.... btw this is not an ‘over reaction’ as it has been put, tbh I thought he was a tit for saying what he said, particularly as captain of wales, but wouldn’t have thought any more with it after that... what I’m doing now is addressing the other points being made about us

If it's "just a joke among the lads" then why get upset when someone (who just happens to be an ex-Swansea player) makes an adverse comment about it?

I've defended Williams against the premature writing off that we saw at the start of the Nations League campaign, and I still think he's a valuable asset for us going forwards. But it was noticeable how he was flagging late on against Denmark in an otherwise good game for him. In particular, he was left trailing in Poulsen's wake for the opportunity that the latter wasted prior to Denmark's second goal.
I very much doubt that we can rely on Williams to be able to play every game in the upcoming Euro qualifiers - especially with there being so many double headers. One thing that Giggs has definitely got right since taking over is blooding youngsters prior to the serious business. Hopefully, come the start of the Euro campaign the likes of James Lawrence and Rodon will have a bit of international experience and will be pushing for a place on the bench at least.
