Give it to Ben and alternate between him and Joe. Maybe Bale doesn't need the added pressure. Agree, Davies (C) and Allen vice.

Ben's time for the captain's armband has arrived (hopefully). Cool, calm, collected and dependable. And clinical... as last night showed.

As I don't see the players in camp, the changing rooms and in training I'll let Giggs decide.
So much of being a captain is off the pitch.

Davies, still has plenty of time in the side ahead of him. Reliable & consistent.
Don't see the point of handing the captaincy to a player who's 30+

Bale, for reasons stated in the other thread. Bale needs this, and we need a Bale that youngsters look up to and the opposition fears. The captaincy might be one small thing that can help him get the chutzpah he needs to be that Bale.

Perhaps more of a token gesture while Davies and Ampadu lead on the pitch, and Bale can take on the ambassadorial duties that come with being captain of the national side.

Still no club for Ash? I assume he'll now hope to work with any clubs who didn't get he cover they needed on deadline day or have any injuries in the next few weeks.

Swans for a season with Rodon now gone to Spurs? Ryan Bennett's come in to replace Rodon. Honestly wouldn't be surprised if Ash retired at 36.

Does anyone know what Ash is doing now?
Obviously was just released by Bristol City in the summer, but I haven't heard anything about him since? It would be a sad way for a great career to end!

At his age, having not played in so long I'd think he was finished. Hopefully Page gives him a call and gets him in the coaching setup. I couldn't think of anyone better-placed to mentor Rodon, Cababgo etc.

He's still technically captain, isn't he? I know Bale is de facto now, but it's not like when Coleman changed it and there was a big announcement.

Solid player. It certainly felt like we wouldn't lose if he was on for us between 2015-2017. Would be great for him to get involved in the Wales coaching setup, he could impart his late career wisdom onto Rodon, Cabango, Mepham etc.

Arguably our greatest captain ever! Outstanding player who never let us down, always turned up even when we were shit. You'd want Ash in the trenches with you.
He never let his standards drop, he had the same commitment in a major tournament as he did in friendlies in front of 6k Wales fans!
My hot take : Rob Page takes over for the euros this summer followed by Ashley Williams being appointed new manager of Cymru! Stretching it there maybe but I can see him managing us one day.
Pob lwc Ashley Williams.

We could do with him for the two games against Belgium this year, they could never get past him! An absolute hero and our greatest captain to date.
All the best big man, hopefully we can look forward to him being involved in the Cymru set up again soon. Diolch Ash!

What an amazing career he has had, rising up from Hednesford Town to become one of the most in demand centre backs in Europe and captaining his country to the semi-final of a major tournament. Legend.

Probably the best Welsh defender of my generation so far, and a role model to players and fans. Will never forget the absolute joy on his face running away after scoring that header vs Belgium!
It's just such a shame how his Welsh career dwindled away. To still be captain, and be dropped so many times for inferior players under Giggs was poor treatment imo.

His playing abilities were quite clearly on the wane (quite dramatically after his first season at Everton), although his organisational/leadership ability remained clear for all to see. In a way its a shame he didn't retire after the Euro campaign, or certainly the WC18 campaign. Would have saved Giggs some headaches. Not knocking Ash's contribution to the Wales shirt in any way, shape or form btw. He was as integral to our Euro 2016 success as any player.

A sad day for Welsh football as we say goodbye to one of the finest Welsh players of many a generation. A leader and an inspiration. Magnificent. Thanks Ashley for all the great memories. Good luck with whatever lies ahead. A fantastic role model for young players making their way in the game.

Fair enough, I agree he was on the decline, but for me he was still a better player than James Lawrence, Lockyer and Mepham around the 2018-2019 time.

The daftness from Giggs was poor communication, looking from the outside in Giggs said players need to play regularly to start for Wales but picked Lockyer and Lawrence ahead of Ash when they weren't playing and Ash was getting regular games for Bristol City.

You just reminded me of THAT Serbia game. The whole defence and keeper were poor that night though.
