I dont think he will be a failure but he wont take us to a major finals. that dosent make him a failure though like flynn with the u21

to say that speed is a failure unless he qualifys for a major tournament is a bit like saying mick mccarthy will be a failure at wolves unless he qualifys for the champions league.

you can have degree's of success but ultimately he will be judged on how close to the promised land he gets us
i think it's a big ask,no matter who we appointed

Lets not forget Hughes is considered a failure as he didnt take us to a finals, even though to get us close was still a remarkable achievement considering the shambles we were in when he took us on.
I just cant see Speed turning this ship around and getting the results to build momentum. He has til 2012 to sort us out but I dont think this is the type of job for someone who is a rookie to management. I think he will be gone by the end of the 2014 qualifiers.

We are 112 in the world. Gary Speed will go down in history as a great Wales manager!!!

I'm luke-warm to this decision, not because its Speed but because of the FAW.
I'm gutted by the way this decision's come about. Wales needs its governing body to be 100% behind its team, but the way the FAW has gone about this is again shambolic. Ford's grinning performance yesterday showed me this, bullshit answers throughout his interview with the BBC. "Gary was always high up on our list"...yeah bollocks pal, if that's the case why did he say only 10 days ago that they were "extremely happy" with the final four candidates and one of them would be the next manager, only to shaft them all and go for a guy that never even applied!!
His answer was they were covering all bases by following up all leads, but the manager of your local Tesco can tell you the very basic fact of employing someone is that you chase up your preffered routes first, and if that fails THEN you officially advertise the job.
They've done it arse over tit once again, wasted money in the process and caused embarrassment to themselves and the candidates.
This makes no sense...Speed has none of the required abilities, other than being a recognised face in Welsh football and 'possibly' having the respect of the dressing room...tactically he's a punt in the dark like Hughes. I personally think they got him because they want to try and replicate the Hughes era and its a massive, MASSIVE gamble, especially considering there were better and potentially more deserving candidates already in the interview process.
I'll support Speed 100%, as a Wales supporter I have no other choice, good luck to him. But any success he gets will be more luck than judgement on the FAW's part...once again they haven't thought anything through.

Speed is an absolute failure. We've never won a game under him!
