I see Ampadu as captain material as soon as he hits 20. I have never seen a 17 year old for any team tell senior pros and captains where they should be position. Such self confidence which you can only assume is informed by an impressive understanding of the game, as exampled by his own actions on the pitch. Please lets see Ampadu today and not Ledley! Personally I think that would be wrong.
Putting all pressure on someone young can backfire.
History is littered with "young stars" who were over played or pressure put on them too soon.
For every Lionel Messi there are numerous
Reason I was pretty sure he would only be playing for Wales is met an ex player 6 months ago, he knows his father very very well and said he was nailed on only to play for Wales.
This guy alluded to his mum, who is by all accounts a very nice WELSH lady who keeps his feet firmly on the ground, the comment his dad has apparently made is "Keep your feet on the ground or your mums feet get planted somewhere else". Whether the comment is true or not i don't know but it gave the impression of a good grounding and family support.

Listening to Five Live about an hour ago and they were talking to Paul Tisdale former Exeter City manager regarding Ethan Ampadu - he was asked if England came calling when he was 14 years old? Paul's answer was "England's junior coaches thought he won't make it as he takes two many touches? ??" Mr Tisdale tried to explain to them that what makes stand out players at that age when they don't need that many touches of the ball!!!!!

He was trying to say that quality players like Ampadu don't need to take 3 touches when one is enough to pass ball in one go - he was streets ahead in terms of vision and quality that he doesn't need to take as many touches of the ball in one instant as others would have done. Something like that - only quoting what Mr Tisdale said on the radio!!!!

England said he "takes too few touches"
As a (admittedly low level) coach, that is just fucking moronic.

I wonder who the 12 better 17/18 year olds England had are and how many are considered better now.
Phil Foden, Ryan Sessagnon are probably the only 2 in the same bracket

hopefully he get good competitive game time as in starter in the Europa league, which is probably better experience for a 18 year old than the Championship. The Championship is as good as or even better than a lot of European top flights, a full 46 game season at a top Championship club would be more beneficial than a Europa League campaign imo It's not like he has never played senior football though, he was being filtered into Exeter's team at the age of 15 so along with last years league cup he has about 15-20 senior games. IF (and it's a decent size IF) he is a serious part of Chelsea's Europa League plans (along with cups), a season training with the likes of Kante/Fabregas/Jorginho will be preferable for him. THEN he can get out on loan to a Champ or maybe even a Prem club.

Some of the comments on Twitter from English fans are hilarious "He's shit", "would never get into the England squad anyway". This kid has the potential to be one of the best in the world and apparently couldn't get past Dier & Henderson in the next few years...

According to a journalist Ampadu would be a "squad player for England U19" and that's only because he's "physically ahead"
What we're forgetting of course is that had he chosen England he would be lauded as a hybrid of Pele/Maradona/Cruyff/Zidane etc

Aside from the penalty two very good games, at his age its crazy.

He's a real gem alright, and seems very mature and level-headed with it. I really felt for him after the penalty debacle. But I suspect he's the type who will hold his head up high, rise above it and move on.

Way to go, slag off Chelsea and then ask if he can loan a player.
Think he may be after someone with more experience like Loftus-cheek if he is to get someone from Chelsea

Every bottom half club in that league will be after him on loan, but I can't see Chelsea loaning out a player who may have a positive impact on their league position. They loaned Kenedy out as they know he's a waster. Ampadu will be a regular in that first team (or at an equivalently good side) within the next couple of years. If I'm wrong, come back and quote me.

Signed a five year contract extension with Chelsea. Nice pay rise for his 18th birthday innit. If he can keep his feet on the ground, stay clear of injury and develop to his full potential he could be some player -right up there with the worlds greatest.

Massive shame, he was in Chelsea's 21-man squad that travelled for their europa game tonight but hasn't made the 18. I had previously heard that Sarri wanted to keep him at Chelsea to use him in the europa, but that's clearly inaccurate.
With him not featuring at all tonight, it's unlikely he'll feature on more than half a dozen occasions for them this season which is not ideal at all for us. He showed in the last couple of games that he can put in great shift even when not featuring for Chelsea, however, clearly he would be even sharper with game time.
I just don't understand why he hasn't been sent out on loan when he's clearly good enough for the championship, and probably the prem too. Surely that would be better for his development

Gutted and really surprised.
Only chance of a game now is if they qualify with games to spare and the league cup.
Needs to go on loan in january

I'm surprised too. Perhaps the thinking is to get some points on the board first, before easing him in towards the end of the group stage. He may also be carrying a knock for all we know.
He should at least get a run in the League Cup.
