Jesus, talk about an overreaction in here.
Rabbi joined Schalke in January and he's only played in 8 games for them so far, but we all know he's top class and should be an automatic starter, displacing the existing players immediately on arrival! DISASTER!!!1
Absolutely nothing wrong with Ethan not starting at this moment, let him learn from quality coaches and players whilst getting used to the culture and language before throwing him onto the pitch.

From a long-term developmental perspective I'm sure his experience at Leipzig will be a helpful one. Trouble is that doesn't help us right now. If he's starting to get game time around Xmas qualification will be done and dusted.
Anyone know if he's been turning out for the reserves or B team? At the very least he needs game time under his belt, regardless of the level. We'll probably be carrying a half-fit Ramsey, we can't afford to be carrying a half-fit Ampadu too.

I agree there's nothing to worry about in the longer term, but it's not ideal going into this international break that he hasn't played any football.

Yet nobody is batting an eye at our goalkeepers because "It's never affected them before"

Getting used to the culture for half a season of a season-long loan isn't ideal or particularly good long-term thinking. He'll be back at Chelsea in May, unless I've missed something.
Made his senior debut at 15 but is 19 now and has never played regular games. He's not behind the development curve for recent Welsh footballers (Wilson, Brooks, James, Rodon all 20 before becoming established at any club level) but any expectations of a world class teenage talent must be evaporating.

If he had gone to QPR and couldn't get a game I would be worried
He is going to be top class but does need to start playing soon

I just don't agree with it. Letting a player languish in the reserves or on the bench for months and months because they need to learn the language and get used to the culture first is ridiculous. How is this going to affect his confidence as well?
I don't sit on my ass for 5 months when I join a new company. It wouldn't be allowed for a start, and I'd be bored, losing ability and confidence.
I thought the whole point of loaning players was to get them game time?

Unused sub again.
Should have ....
At least he's picked up some more of the culture and language. That's what football's all about. Not that playing stuff.

He's the exact kind of player Swansea need, because he's er.. Welsh!! No. You've got it the wrong way round. Swansea is exact kind of team Ampadu should have gone to. He'll be fluent in German and wearing lederhosen before he gets any game time at Leipzig.

He'll be fluent in German and wearing lederhosen before he gets any game time at Leipzig. Lederhosen is associated with a completely different area of Germany; this is why its important Ethan takes in the culture. He'll get some games, he was never going to walk into the first team though. As I said, he'll be learning from top class coaches and players in his time there too.

Send him to a bad one so he gets lots of defending practice.

What was his actual injury last night? I thought he was limping when he went off, but some tweets mention a head injury.

A forearm smash to the back of the head by Petkovic - he should have been off as well as Vida. We got lucky with our equalizer, but we should have got a penalty for Lovren's blatant shove on Williams, Vida committed a similar through-the-legs foul to Davies in a good position for a free-kick, Perisic should have been yellow carded and two Croatian players should have been red carded. Other than that the ref had a good game.

But definite contact... should have been a pen!

On the bench in the cup tonight I was firmly on the "this loan could still work out" side, but now I'd just recall him if I was Chelsea. If they're not willing to risk him in the cup when they've got a league game on Saturday and a champions league outing on Tuesday, when will he ever start?
