Nah, you could argue mid table premier league over Leipzig, but he's too good for the Championship at the moment I'd say.

Is he really too good for the championship? Didn’t do Mason Mount any harm.

An 18 year old kid who’s hardly played any senior football too good for the championship?! He would do well to start for some of the top championship sides. I agree, championship shouldve been the appropriate destination for him.

Yeah plenty of Premier League clubs interested in him before the move to Leipzig, maybe a move to a Champions League club was slightly ambitious, but I wouldn't out him getting game time there as the campaign progresses. He's definitely good enough.

A championship move would've been good. Hope he gets an opportunity soon at Leipzig, it might take an injury for him to get a chance

Turned 19 last week.
Not long back from injury. He will get his chance just a shame the team is flying.

Has Redbull’s bubble burst? He could get a chance soon if their form takes a knock.

Today, at home, they were the poorer side. Schalke were all over them, even at 0-3 up, they carried on pressing and looking really dangerous. Even the Leipzig goal in the last 5' was fortuitous.

Not even on the bench tonight........this is turning into a proper disaster.
Serious consideration needs to be taken by Chelsea to cut his loan short, give him cup games or loan him to the championship. Absolute waste of 6 weeks so far.

Wouldn't play him over Grimes at Swansea. He'd be on the bench with Wilmot and Surridge.

I think he needs to be considered as a centre half.

But he'd probably be ahead of Fulton.

Wouldn't play him over Grimes at Swansea. He'd be on the bench with Wilmot and Surridge. It wouldn't be a choice between Grimes and Williams. More likely a choice between Williams and Celina/Dhanda/Byers either at number 10 or on the left. Or you'd go for a different system altogether, potentially a 4-3-3. The bottom line is, if Williams was in the Swansea squad and fit he would start.

But he'd probably be ahead of Fulton. Fulton is the link player, the traditional 8. Ampadu would have to come in as the holding player, where our captain and player of the year plays his best. I'd have had Matt Smith in over Fulton. Don't rate him. We were better with Byers there under Potter.

One good performance against an awful Republic of Ireland side? Big club hype? Matt Grimes was brilliant last season. Was made captain. Forget Ampadu, Joe Allen was half the player Grimes was last season.

Why do we care if Grimes is better than Welsh players?

Why do we care if Grimes is better than Welsh players? Because we were talking about whether Swansea would have been a good loan move for Ampadu.

Interesting interview on EJFOF with a journalist over Germany who says that there’s nothing to worry about with regards to Ampadu’s lack of games so far because apparently Nagelsmann believes that new young foreign players shouldn’t go straight into the team but have time to learn the language and get settled first. He expects him to get plenty of game time as the season goes on, though maybe not until around Christmas!
Obviously not good news from a short term Welsh perspective since he’s unlikely to play much even by the next round of qualifiers, but encouraging from the perspective of Ampadu’s development that it’s part of the plan rather than RBL not thinking he’s good enough.

Jasper is probably right about the Grimes/Ampadu issue. Ampadu has the potential to be a top player but while he doesn’t play that potential lies unrealised. Grimes has had a season in a tough league and has become a streetwise leader. Ampadu needs regular gametime in a tough environment to grow as a player. If he’s not featuring by January he needs to move.

Didnt Chelsea do some research into this before loaning him out? What a complete waste of 4 months for a young footballers career. The sort of stuff that can really stall development. Cancel it and send him to a championship team. He was nowhere near good enough for a title challenging Bundesliga side anyway. What were Chelsea thinking?

It does seem like an oversight on Chelsea’s part. But maybe they thought adapting to a foreign league was in itself good for his development. He’ll also be surrounded by much better players and getting better coaching at RBL than at some random Championship team. Nagelsmann is a really highly rated young manager with a big future. We’ll just have to wait and see I suppose. Would playing for half a season in the Bundesliga be better than a full season in the Champ? Not sure, but I could see an argument for it.

I think he'll be better off with Leipzig than in the championship.
